  1. Sorry due to the recent weather conditions track is currently unavailable
  2. Thats a good question. It's all down to the cost of manufacture and what people were willing to pay. Say for example, if it was £3.50 to make and people were willing to pay £7.50 + postage costs, then that would be £2000 if all 500 sold. Which would be great. Does that seem un-reasonable ? Cheers Stuart
  3. Following the recent bad weather in the UK, extensive damage was caused to the track of the Severn Valley Steam Railway, including many areas where the embankment has simply been washed away. As a result of the damage, it is estimated that some 49 areas need attention, SVR can only run between Kidderminster and Bewdley, the estimated cost of repairs is currently £500,000. On Monday the SVR launched an appeal to raise money for the repairs, having traveled on, and cached close the the railway on many occasions it seems appropriate to produce a geocoin to help raise funds to re-instate the line to it's former glory. Further details can be found in the following thread http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=166911
  4. You can't have missed the devastation and damage thats been caused by the recent weather. A week ago, on Tuesday the 19th the weather caused extensive damage to the track of the Severn Valley Railway. By good fortune at the time no trains were running. Obviously it's in the very early planning stages, but heres some proposed details of the coin - Production run of 500 (assuming there is enough interest) - One side to contain a 3d relief of a train crossing one of the bridges on the SVR Line itself - Trackable on GC.com with icon - Normal Size (apparently 38mm x 3.5mm thick) All profits from the sale of the coin will be sent to the SVR Appeal. I'll be setting up a website to allow people to register an interest (and to see if 500 is an achievable target), I'll post as soon as this is ready. Anyone wanting more details of the SVR Appeal http://www.svr.co.uk/appeal.php I'm not in anyway associated with the SVR, and the coin is NOT a SVR endorsed product, its simply my way of trying to raise some funds and at the same time hopefully producing a great coin. Cheers Stuart
  5. Hi, I'd like to clear this up. The comment was not made in the Geochat room, but in a private message session. Secondly the comment wasn't intended to cause offense. It was made in reference to forums springing up using free forum hosting services. Some of these "free" services are being run using software that is out of date and has know security holes. In some cases the same software as the current soon to be migrated to new software GAGB forums. The original suggestion and intention was not to replace any existing services, but to provide additional resources for those areas that wished to have a forum that currently don't Apologies for any misunderstanding that I may have caused. Stuart
  6. Can you provide details of any messages you get at login ? Is it possible to get debug info from mIRC ? Cheers Stuart
  7. Hi, You should be using if at all possible irc.nixhelp.org as the irc server name. When you say slugish, what do you mean ? Cheers Stuart
  8. ok. That looks like the ip for glutoney.uk which has now been retired. something somewhere is caching the dns request. Do you have a router, and is this being used for DNS serving to your network, it's probably this that is keeping the cached copy of the IP. OR it's you ISP. If possible get your router to flush its DNS cache. Stuart
  9. Is it possible to get mirc to log exactly which IP it's using ? I suspect there may be a caching issue. I'll investigate further, but as far as I'm aware the entry from glutoney.uk has been removed from the round robin completly.
  10. Do you know which server you're specifying ? Ideally you should be using irc.nixhelp.org which is a round robin DNS. Cheers Stuart
  11. The java client at http://www.geochat.co.uk/chat Has now been fixed to automagiacally deal with the "secret handshake" required to get in.

  14. Well, with the total number of takers no greater than the number of fingers on my three hands, timescales involved and lack of time to complete tasks required I'm going to put this one to bed. However, maybe next year, although I suspect that there may be an "official" product available by then. Cheers Stuart PS. Mods Pls Close.
  15. Ok, update, nothing much to report..... Other than last posting days for xmas are 1st Class 19 Dec 2nd Class 16 Dec. This leaves 4 weeks to arrange pictures, get dates, get calendar printed, and post out. Still, we've only got ~5 interested parties, any more takers ? Cheers Stuart
  16. Dear All, Any takers for a UK Gecocahing Wall Calendar, you know the type you get at xmas ? Heres where my thinking is at currently. - Pictures take by cachers close to a cache - A4 Portrait, page per month, the top of the page being the picture, the bottom the calendar - Events listed on the calendar I intend this to be a non profit excercise, with a nominal charge of £10 per calendar with all surplus after printing and distributions going to a deserving charity. Costs I currently have need at least 50 poeple to sign yup, with hopefully £2 per calendar being surplus. How can you help ? - Pictures, we'll need some of these. - Printing, do you know of a printer that could help out Obviously time is short if people would like these for xmas, I'm investigating timescales and will post an update soon. Cheers Stuart
  17. Nope. But you're getting close. Heres a clue: You might have to scout around to find the answer.
  18. Time to throw in a picture round. http://www.geochat.co.uk/images/butterfly.jpg The image above looks real enough, but has a hidden meaning. Whats the meaning ? And for a bonus mark, what is the significance of the butterfly's body ? Cheers Stuart (Feeling a little devious)
  19. That'll be the speed of light, and the velocity at which the object is traveling. Speed of light being 300,000,000 metres per second.
  20. Time for another bump. Best get in quick, seats are filling up fast.
  21. 74. The people responsible for setting the standard were especially find of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, and so set the standard to that a CD would be able to accommodate that piece of music. Wasn't it 60 minutes, on a CD that would be 11.5cm in diameter rather than the 12cm it is now. There are I believe many versions of events and reasons that 12cm and 74 minutes was decided on.
  22. Wenger, the manufacturer of the classic Swiss Army Knife, has revealed a 9-inch long, 2-pound "knife" which carries 85 instruments, or: almost every tool that has ever been on a Swiss Army Knife, ever. http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/24/giant-s...ffers-85-tools/ How many would you use ?
