  1. from what I have read - no. What was the time difference between going in and coming out? If you were using different sats, the coords/reception would be different. I have noticed following the breadcrumb track back out it can be off by a long way. Nil Satis Nisi Optimum
  2. I wouldn't worry about it. I reacted a couple of times with defensive posts when the next person to find a cache I had found made comments about the cache was in the open or not well hid, when I was sure I had made a good job of it. As already stated, people find caches and don't log on the site, so it's not that easy to be sure - probably someone else came along and took the pin. Nil Satis Nisi Optimum
  3. (You edited your post while I was putting this together - to answer the first question, it is a good deal, I think their pricing is screwed - to answer the cell phone issue, read the handbook ) Garmin full price is over $230. I can find it for around $140 on other sites. The latest firmware is 4.58 (check out the Garmin web site to get the update). Good luck with it Nil Satis Nisi Optimum [This message was edited by crr003 on October 16, 2002 at 10:56 PM.]
  4. That's because it looks like a vacation cache. All good cachers abhor these (apparently; that's what the survey says). (My sincere apologies to the hiders if maintenance has been arranged - I'm pro vacation caches myself). Nil Satis Nisi Optimum

The issue here isn't really whether the cache item would be edible (Though I'd certainly hesitate to eat something that's been sitting in a cache for who knows how long). The issue is that food items in caches, including dog biscuts, attract animals and make the cache susceptible to being destroyed, or torn apart by them. "Life is a daring adventure, or it is nothing" - Helen Keller It's just a joke. I understand the smell argument. The tampon thing just strikes me as amusing that's all. Nil Satis Nisi Optimum

RobertM, There's some more comments in this thread: another thread Regarding the Legend, some people say the patch antenna is not as good as a quad-helix, but that's a whole other topic. Nil Satis Nisi Optimum

KD9KC, I agree, in a marginal situation you need all you can get. But I think the situation the system is supposed to deal with OK is, assuming you have a lock on some sats, if it starts to rain on you, you shouldn't loose the system? There should be some margin in the link budget to allow for this? And I would hope it's more than 3dB. But I can't find anything definitive about this on the web.(yet). When you think about the additional attenuation caused by the human body blocking signals and tilting the antenna from the optimum receive angle, it's a wonder the thing works at all.
