  1. Hypothesis? For the third time, I was merely pointing out why some people find challenge caches rewarding. Is that what you're rejecting? It's the more inclusive term "most" as opposed to the somewhat lesser inclusive term "some". Whether or not challenge caches are wanted, liked, needed, etc. is an excellent topic for a separate thread. Can we get back to whether or not GSAK should be required for challenge caches?
  2. If little brothers and sisters were not constantly pushing the limits and running to big brother complaining, big brother would not have to take a breather to figure out how to make all it's siblings get along and play nice.
  3. I sent out some responses to the above, dont know if they got them, so just posting it. the first two digits of the N and W will be given, you are looking for the minutes xx.xxx for each after the + sign. just wondering if anyone can get it, and how difficult it is. dont post the answer, or the method, just if you can solve it. I couldn't make heads or tails of it.
  4. It probably has more to do with the other sub being restricted to insightful, how can we improve, sort of posts and this sub being more open to disagreement than the other sub.
  5. I'd be willing to pay more to lose the ads. AdBlock Plus is FREE. No ads for me. Yep. Same here. Got AdBlock, got no ads. I keep hearing that and it's great on my desktop. But what about mobile devices? I still haven't seen a viable solution without rooting your device and voiding the warranty or proxy inc all traffic through a third party which you may or may not be able to trust.
  6. If the intent of the hide method is meant only to keep muggle a from discovering it and not really intended to make it challenging, I wouldn't take any action on it. P.S. Is that the world's largest lobster in the background?
  7. But the real question is, should GSAK be required in order to log a challenge cache?
  8. I applaud Grounspeak for taking the time needed to sort through this.
  9. Good advice. If one cannot figure out how to disagree cordially they may do better to lurk more and post less. I've found lurking to be very informative. Often, just about the time I am ready to give my opinion, someone manages to do it better than I could have anyway.
  10. Was that the woman with the flowers? Yes. Piddlepuss
  11. In the last few days we have had a few posters who are new to the forums start some threads which have quickly turned ugly. Some have felt these were trolls. I am going to give my opinion based on history that some of you may remember. A few years ago we had a rampant troll who really caused a lot of harm here. Because of this, I got caught up in trying to stop the trolling only to find myself disgraced and almost banned for life. I wrongly accused an innocent woman of trolling the forums. It later was revealed that I was horribly wrong. I bring this up as a warning to all posters here. Here is what I learned. First, it is the duty of the moderation team to deal with problematic posters. They have been hand selected by Groundspeak for this purpose. They, and they only have the duty and responsibility to deal will trolls, flames, rude posters, etc., etc. In short, it is not our place to publicly out anyone. If at any time we feel someone is not what they purport to be, then we should use the report button and then allow the mods to do the job for which they have been tasked. Secondly, and the most important thing I have learned, you do not have to respond to every thread or post in these boards. I repeat, it is ok to not post a response to a thread or post! If you do not have something constructive to say, then consider whether you should respond at all. The moderators can warn, ban, etc. to remove problematic users. But we can do so much more by treating every poster with the warmth and respect that each of us would like to receive from others.
  12. The city found out about the caches due to one of its employees is a Cacher, and noticed some in areas not allowed and not approved, so the city rep. Brought it up to us at our geocaching event meeting that was regarding use of city land and use of city resources. Sooo...why didn't the city or this other cacher contact the CO of these other caches and explain their issue with him/her? They knew the caches were there, they didn't want them placed there and rather than contact the person who placed the caches without permission, they sat on their hands until you approached them with an idea for an event? Something doesn't add up. they didn't sit on their hands until we approached with a event, we have been planning this event with them at our meetings for a year now, the guy placing caches has been placing them in the last 2 weeks, so far about 5 of them in 2 weeks, Tuesday was our last meeting, and it was brought up then because it just started happening, the employee that brought it up to them, told them about these in the area that werent requested to be there, because I guess when once is placed with permission, they notify the city maintenance, so there's no confusion, they wanted to ask us at the meeting before they attempted to notify Groundspeak, so they asked us, because the city rep also knew we run a geocachers club in this county that's been here awhile now, they figured we might know who he is and be able to contact reviewer or if we knew him, to contact him, well we don't know him because the CO doesn't live here , he lives about 18 miles south in another town according to his profile, and all of a sudden his caches started popping up 2 weeks ago. But I am going to either close or lock this topic, because some of the people replying, actually read what was typed and understood what I was asking, and didn't turn it into something it wasn't, because the main point of my topic was how to handle it since i was the one being asked, I have wrote the CO from his profile as of yesterday evening and relayed the cities concerns in a nice letter and explained I wasn't sure why they didn't contact him ( to me seemed like they were passing the buck, on dealing with it ), but haven't heard back yet, but I see no point in continuing to receive replies from people that seem to just want to start arguments, when last I checked, this is a family sport, and not a forum for arguing, I am sure glad the most of the cachers that replied, and the cachers up here are nice and have no problem helping people with nice answers, and understanding. Thank you to those who replied nicely, and didnt try to turn this into something it wasnt. Sincerely, Brandon Brandon, The easiest way to have your thread closed is to hit the report button in the bottom left corner of a post and just ask the mods to close the thread. Good luck with dealing with this situation and I hope your event is a success.
  13. The trackable woudn't fit in the cache so I held onto it until I found a cache it would fit in.
  14. Sorry, but I'm not much of a puzzle guy. But pm the details and I can see what I can do.
  15. Speaking from personal experience, if you suspect someone is trolling, it is best to report it and allow the mods to figure it out. Trolling was my impression early on and either knowschad is doing a major league troll of the troller or.......I'm not gonna finish this sentence. Regardless of what it appears to be, we either need to take the OP at face value and discuss the merits of the topic at hand or, if you do not believe the OP is legitimate, then refrain from posting such and report it to the mods instead. It is their job to deal with trolling. It is really easy to be really wrong and you can wind up making the situation a lot worse by making accusations.

  17. Given that somebody at Groundspeak has determined that they need X amount of revenue to keep the service running and to make a profit (which they have every right to do), which would you prefer: keeping the ads and maintaining the same annual membership fee, or removing all the ads and increasing the membership fee? Either way, it's a no-win situation for Groundspeak. People complain about the ads, but (in my opinion) would complain even more loudly if the annual membership fee was increased. Personally, since I already see ads on about 99% of all the Web sites I visit, I vote for keeping the ads and keeping the same membership fee. Why is it so difficult to simply ignore that ad in the corner of the Web page? --Larry If you had included the entire post, then you would see it's not that difficult at all. But to answer your question, I'd prefer a third option. Put more ads and make the service completely free. * bolding added by me
  18. It would be a moving cache. It would just have automated coord updates. Cool idea though.
  19. It is not required to log a find. However, if you want to ensure that TPTB will uphold the find log in the case of a deletion, then you need to sign the log.
  20. https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/adblock-browser-for-idevices/id537774578?mt=8 B. Unfortunately that is a browser that proxies your traffic to remove the ads, rather than an ad blocker that filters the ads like ad blocker plus does. To be honest, the ads don't bother me that much since I rarely view cache pages on the iPad. I just don't think premium members should be subjected to ads. That is generally a main perk of purchasing a web service.
  21. Hiw do you do that for the ipad? I have adblock plus on the desktop.
  22. And you'd pay a bit more to enable that to happen, yes? It's really, really easy to not see ads if you don't want to. I use one browser where I don't, but others where I do - I figure I need to ensure that I provide some revenue for GS by viewing ads every now and again at least. It helps keep the service going - so I have no problem with that. Thus the PREMIUM member portion of my post.
  23. I have no problem with ads being displayed to basic members. However, premium members should not have to see ads.
  24. I gotta say that I actually like the new look. I do a lot more from my tablet these days and the extra spacing between links makes it much easier to tap the correct links for me.
  25. Unless the listing has been locked, it can be logged as found.
