  1. One of the most frustrating things I have encountered was when I came back to my hometown over college break. I was suprised to find that around 100 new caches had been hidden around the area. However, my heart sank when 95% were stop sign base micros. I wanted to hide my own cache to celebrate reaching 100 finds, but it's hard to find a spot when whole neighborhoods are taken up by these sign post micros!
  2. Is there a certain type of swag you go for? I've started to pick up a lot of trading cards because they're easy to put in a scrap book or something similar that I can date and say where I found it :3
  3. You're very welcome I went to check why Amazon said the book wasn't out yet, and I found out the link was to the Paperback version. Only the hardcover book is out now. Heres a description if anyone else is interested: Fourteen-year-old Chase lives with his mother, stepfather, and two siblings in the high country of Arizona, where they rent cabins and run a convenience store both tourist-driven business that aren t doing very well. The family is considering a move back to Phoenix, where Chase s father lives and there are better opportunities both for parents and children. Chase loves the high country and doesn t want to leave. In particular, he loves geocaching, a sort of a treasure hunting game involving a GPS. While on a geocaching expedition, he encounters two young brothers, camping in the wilderness with their father. Something s not right; that much he can tell. He s curious enough to return repeatedly, to figure out what s going on and how he can help. Ultimately he learns that the brothers have been kidnapped by their father from their mother, who has custody. Just as Chase s family is trying to decide what to do with their future, he has to decide what role he s going to play in Jack and Sam s life. Show More Show Less
  4. In Florida there is this program called "Sunshine State Readers". Apparently one of the newest books in the program involves geocaching. Here is some information on the program first: "The Sunshine State Young Reader's Award Program is a statewide reading motivation program for students in grades 3-8. The program, cosponsored by the School Library Media Services Office of the Department of Education and the Florida Association for Media in Education (FAME), began in 1983. The purpose of the SSYRA Program is to encourage students to read independently for personal satisfaction, based on interest rather than reading level. " Well my sister is going into seventh grade and she came knocking on my door this morning telling me that I NEED to read this book when she’s done. After getting over my shock of her actually reading a book (Ha) I asked her why and she said that it has Geocaching in it. I was surprised, and I was wondering if anyone has read this book? Here is the book: http://www.amazon.com/Hide-Seek-Katy-Grant/dp/1561456691/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1338318023&sr=8-2
  5. Alright! Thanks for all the help everyone! I'm going to give it a shot and keep you guys posted
  6. It sort of sounds like a cacher couldn't find the cache so assumed it went missing. They probably dropped the second cache as a replacement!
  7. After finding around 70 Caches I'm pumped and ready to hide my own. I wanted to make a cache that represented my other hobby "Pez Collecting". Now my idea was to make a mystery cache with questions about... What else.... Pez! These questions would mainly be basic facts and history About the franchise that could be easily found via Google. These in turn would give you the coordinates for the cache. These questions could be like: "Pez is short for what German word. How many letters are in this word? " or "What year did Character heads first appear on top Of pez dispensers? What number is in the one's place?" I've read over the guidelines and was wondering if this was cutting it to close to the No Commercial Cache rule?
  8. I found a bird house cache on a sea side shopping plaza. It was on an outside wall with two other birdhouses in a way that made them look like items for sale. To my surprise, after walking up and down the store fronts, I realized that one of the birdhouses had a covering over the hole. There was a side door that opened to the cache!
  9. Not really personalized but I like to leave Pez dispensers as a little sig item of mine. Though I know of a few others who also do this
