  1. Love your approach MrsB To the point. I will be placing my cache when I return from Mont-Louis and Poitiers. Hopefully by then people will be agreed as to what the final system will be Now, lets see what caches can be found in Andorra...
  2. You need to chat to Alibags as she has several by canals and her well-known Grand Union series And no, they arent all micros!
  3. Have had trouble logging in too. The computer says 'no'... I'll try a carrier pigeon next
  4. As I have been nudged (and am still recovering...OW! ) by Pop up Pirate I'll volunteer for Leicestershire then. I have some sites and various sized cache containers ready to go. Is there a size limit?
  5. Just to say....is the race still happening? As for another idea....We all know how important our mobiles become if we are broken down, have an emergency or just need to communicate when we find ourselves in the middle of nowhere. We could perhaps have a race to see which TB was taken to the most remote spot ever. Every month we could have a top ten list, and at the finish date the winner would naturally be the one who got to the most remote spot, ever. There's a cacher currently on a ship by Antarctica for instance... Rules would be simple and along the lines of - must be X distance away from the nearest village/town, must be at least x distance from the nearest road and so on. Being in a cache or just taken to a point is optional, but photographic proof taken with a GPS for co-ordinates confirmation is vital. My phone is tagged up and is beginning to collect dust on the shelf its lurking on I would like to release it soon
  6. Yep, I'm a Facebook member but because I don't trust it either (and didn't like the way it trawled my email box) I am under my MSN name, not my real or cachers one If you want to add me email me through my profile and you too can waste some time at work and be bored confused annoyed baffled by all the weird and wonderful applications. On the news today some researchers have disclosed that Face book is attracting more 'middle classes' and My-Space is attracting more 'working classes'. I suppose this might account for half of the Facebook people I know being part of a university network? Now we need someone to work on a Geo-poke
  7. I'll give it a go too I need something to distract me from my current work analyzing statistical scatter graphs zzzzzzzz
  8. No is the simple answer to the thread question, and I'm not holding my breath either! The current odds are that I'm more likely to see Prince William streaking naked down Windsor high street than a Red Jeep...
  9. The only time I hate micros is when it turns out they are hidden in a deep, dark woodland area where its pretty obvious a container as large as an ammo can could easily have been hidden. Nothing more frustating than looking for a 35m container in a series of large Ivy covered spiky trees Saying that, I chatted to a cacher a while back who, being utterly fed up with all his caches all having been picked clean with nothing left in them except for the log book he swapped them all for micros. In his view, if people are too mean to play the game properly then why should he be the only one spending the money on the caches?
  10. Hi everybody - The problem has now been solved thanks to the hard work of the website owners and I now have some activated coins My thanks to everyone who helped. Can the moderator close this thread please?
  11. She is well-known for using special tattoo concealer for red carpet events which usually sends the paparazzi into a frenzy. The 'bruise' in that poorly written article is her concealer coming off her dragon tattoo. I have never heard of bruising appearing after a tattoo
  12. Destination: In keeping with the theme of the race I suggest one near this cache in the cache-rich district of Nokia in Finland. I'm sure a post in the Baltic forums might get a volunteer who would be willing to help Tasks: Well, there are all sorts of tasks we could get people to do. In every country there places where fields are filled with giant satellite dishes - to keep in the spirit of mobile communication I think such a photo with a TB and dish/dishes would be part of the fun and more likely to be achievable by the finders of the TB's. Many cachers avoid puzzles and having that as a task might put people off. So basically: A race for the first dummy phone to reach a designated cache in the town of Nokia in Finland. If your TB reaches the final cache without a photo of it by a telecommunications centre then it wont count. I think a time allowance of 1 year should do it? I think Alibags or Jollyjax should have the honour of naming the contest
  13. I used to look after her - I can confirm that all that's left of the original HMS Victory is the grand total of 7%. Not forgetting the carbon fibre masts, the glass fibre cannons..... In 1946 her sister ship was towed out into the Solent and blown up because the Labour government at the time felt that there was no need for it to be kept for the nation, even though she too was at Trafalgar. Considering what a shocking state the poor old Cutty Sark was in before the fire quite a lot of it would have needed replacing anyway - some of the now damaged metal ribs were so rusted through you could poke a hole through with your finger. Its a beautiful ship and you cant beat the atmosphere, the smells and the look of an old Clipper like that - try to visit her when she is open to the public once more, and try to go on a windy day as the noise of the rigging is something else.
  14. Hi there to any Czech cachers on this forum I have some 2006 Czech coins I wish to activate and send on their way but the activation website is refusing to work. I know other people have had problems too and the website has been like this for a month now. I have emailed the website owners and have had no reply, so can anyone else help and send me a different link that might work? Any help appreciated as I want to launch the coins soon!
  15. Like mobile phone shops, drill a hole on a certain part of the phone
  16. I live south of Nottingham in England and you'd be amazed where people place their caches. I have urban caches placed on medieval sites and have had people moan at me for them being micros. I can't place anything bigger due to UK heritage laws. Honestly, you can't win with some people!
  17. Thank you guys, lots of food for thought there The cache wont be seen by most muggles with exception of those who bushwhack their way through the trees for whatever reason. The trail itself cuts through the ivy that's growing on the floor of the Spinney. I don't think the trail will recover quickly so instead I will look for a new location to place it. Its popular because its part of a series of caches that encourages people to take a break from very long car journeys and take a walk. Some people have been driving non-stop for four hours and often grab a coffee from the nearby cafe and walk on over, pleased to cache as a break. I'd rather see this continue than archive it As for what Team Webguy went through, I don't think I can beat that! My friend Alibags had a cache by Bunsfield, the UK oil and fuel depot that blew up last year. Amazingly it survived intact and Alibags found it covered in soot (it was a plastic container)
  18. What about destination and time allowed to get there? There is a village called Nokia in Sweden Should we have a 'Most distance travelled' hall of fame too? My dummy Ericson set to stun - just waiting for the confirmation for destination, time allowed for plus agreed challenges so I can print off and laminate a card for it
  19. Just wanted to pick your brains I have a cache which has proved quite popular. In fact so popular that there is now a very obvious trail leading to the cache. Its in a wooded spinney and the trail now looks like a regular footpath ending at a tree which could draw unwanted attention. I don't want to draw attention to my cache (also making it too easy to find for cachers!) nor do I want the plant life being destroyed around it, so what should I do - post a notice on the cache page to remind people to take care or temporarily disable it to attempt to get the plantlife to grow over the caching trail-although this may take some time
  20. Basically it consists of 'poor detailing' and missed bits of roads/footpaths/topography. I looked it up on Amazon once and many of the reviewers said 'Don't buy it, its a waste of money'. But if you are lucky enough to own a GPS with expandable memory I suppose it really is the mutts's nuts I'll reserve judgement then till I get a copy to upload into my meagre Legend memory You're welcome to demonstrate next time I meet you. I promise I won't insist on finding micros
  21. I have a Legend and have experienced this too, but only when the accuracy signal was very very poor. It quite often told me I was on the side of a hill or in the middle of a lake when I was in a certain part of the Lake District. You may find the problems stems from being in an area where trees or many buildings interfere with the receiver in the Legend. Oddly it does get a signal if I turn it on indoors to upload something The Topo map point is interesting. I've always wanted a copy of it but have heard nothing but tales of woe about it. Is it really that bad? I simply can't afford to buy my own copy and don't know anyone who has it to find out for myself.
  22. Time to reconfigure your ignore settings
  23. I'd be up for that having cached using a one day Capitalcard in London. I'm slowly working my way to my 300th cache via public transport. Its not as bad as people think and you don't have the added worry of parking and break ins. I suspect you could easily do 100 caches in 24 hours in Oxford or parts of Manchester.
  24. From today's BBC news and a timely reminder for the summer I'll leave it for you to decide about the 'handy guide to removing ticks' advice.
  25. Lone female cacher, me. No car either which makes things a challenge. I'm not worried about being mugged when in the countryside (although being followed by cows in a field in the middle of nowhere can be unnerving ). I don't enjoy urban caching on my own so much but my height and build puts off most people from approaching me I sometime team up with my 7 year old son Ravenclaws when I can drag him away from his school mates
