  1. Got these dates from the posted flyer at the park. Closure is from 5:30am-12:00pm for Deer Management. 12/6 1/3 1/17 1/24 1/31 2/7 Call The Morris County Park's Commission with any questions: 973-326-7600
  2. Your video did a great job of explaining and showing what occurs once you have a cache target identified, the hunt, the search, the find and the logging. If I was a newbie I'd be saying "now that's a cool way to get out and do something instead of sittin around doin nothin". My next set of questions would be: Where do I go to get cache info, what's near me, how do I know that cache is for me (difficulty, terrain, gotchas, etc), what have others said about this cache, how do I log my experience... in other words, what do I do before and after. Could be like a top 10 things to do before and after a cache. Not too detailed (ie no need to go into the details of Pocket Queries, downloading to PDAs, etc....... ) If I'd seen a video like this when I was starting I may not have selected a category 4 difficulty as my 1st hunt (
  3. Very well produced and loved the music. Great job!

Look at the posted signs before entering the park from either entrance.
  5. Big Congrats to Andy (Avgraphics) for hitting #250 over the Thanksgiving Day Break while in Maryland. Nice going Andy !
  6. Unscheduled family B-Day Party (at least not on my schedule) may keep me from getting to Night Sweats. Will see if I can skip out early.
  7. Just imagine how much they'll be saving when others not quite as observant flip the p'card into the trash.
  8. I had same problem but found a workaround that may work for you. On my cable there's a small washer between the cable plug and the finger screw. If you pull on the screw you may be able to see the washer. What I did was pull the screw completely out of the plug and remove the washer. I then re-inserted the screw. What this did was effectively give me about a millimeter or so more screw length allowing me to secure the cable into the eX600. Not sure how long it'll last but it's a snug connection.
  9. When I go out my preference is to have the osition cursor on the map screen (black arrow) pointing in the direction I'm traveling. For example, when I'm driving and need to turn left, I prefer to have the arrow moving "up the screen" so that the street I need to turn left on is on the left side of the GPSr screen.. To do this, I set up my map screen preferences as follows: make sure you're in the map screen, press the menu button. Scroll to Map Setup, click Map Setrup. On the next screen highlight the Orientation option and select Track Up from the options. That's it. Now on the map screen you'll also notice on the top right a smaler arrow with an "N" in the middle. This icon will show which way North is. The electronic compass while on allows you to emply the compass functionality while you're standing still. When it's turned off the compass still works but only while you're moving. As previously posted, once I'm within approx 100' of the cache site, I switch from map screen to compass mode. The needle on the compass then gives a fairly decent direction of where GZ should be. I say direction becasue the cache will often be somewhere along that general direction. Also note that you should be orienting yourself via the red portion of the compass needle. Sorry if that's too obvious. When you have a cache selected you'll also see that a small icon is on the compass screen at the tip of the red arrow. Just another graphical pointer of where you should be headed. And last, the GPSr accuracy is determined by several factors. Just remember that the cache owner's GPSr also had those factors so don't rely simply on your hardware. When you're within about 100' or so you need to start looking at general direction and possibly things that don't look right (pile of sticks, unusual rock formation, single hollowed out tree, blends in too well/ or not at all), etc. Sort of long but hope it helps.
  10. Very nice round number..... great job....
  11. Had something similar happen to me on the 4th in North Central NJ. Had a lock. Then birds went away with no lock, suddenly I was at 17000' altitude and 2 miles from where I was. Cleared unit, restarted, let it sit for a bit then all was OK. Very odd behavior.
  12. You nailed it; it's basically a waypoint manager. You'd do yourself a huge service to get GSAK instead. Also, going paperless? Get cachemate for your PDA.
  13. Thanks all for suggestions. Buddy of mine also mentioned the Shrimp MC-ATV cradle http://www.lobstermount.com/store/store_pr...fm?Product_ID=9 Any one have experience/comments on this one?
  14. Just got a new mountain bike and would like to take my eX600 along for the ride. Wondering what others out there have used that works. Need a cradle that will securely hold the GPSr while on bumpy trails. Thanks in advance.
  15. I had a similar problem a while back with the eX600. Turned out it was a faulty AC Adapter. Battery charged fine when using a cigarette adapter but wouldn't do a thing with the AC Adapter. I contacted Magellan and eventually got a new adapter.
  16. I purchased a Palm Zire 31 a few months ago. Has been great for paperless caching and keeping track of events. Has a slot for an SD card, color and fast enough for what I need.
  17. If you're looking for MS Word/XL, etc functionality, your best bet may be a PocketPC device rather than Palm.
  18. Hey DOT-COM, I ended up buying a Palm Zire 31 a while back to go along with my eX600. For me it's perfect. Has an SD slot for optional memory cards, color unit, and enough capacity and power to do all I need for Geocaching. You'll need Cachemate ($8) and GSAK ($30). As noted many times previously, GSAK is a must tool for getting pocket-queries, manipulating, filtering and downloading the cache details to your eX600 and Palm. Cachmate is the software that is used to convert the Geocaching info to Palm format. This is a very simplistic summary; bottom-line: Once you start using GSAK you'll notice a Ccahemate macro for one-button downloading to your eX600. Below is a link for a tutorial I used and proved to be a great resource: http://home.comcast.net/~teamcoychev/paperless.htm (credits to Team CoyChev). HTH........
  19. nda1977....... perfect epitaph; bringing it all together and eloquently summarizing with a touch of chastisement, counsel and advice..... nicely done...Are we at closure?
  20. My simple suggestion....... all of us that are "wrong" just walk away sighing and let him play in his sandbox by himself.
