  1. Well, just looked and the rock itself is a WM Moro Rock WM18V but no benchmark WM nearby. Someone get on it! (The park and rock are on my list of places to go - maybe it'll be me)
  2. Back in August, I hiked to Mt San Jacinto as training for Mt Whitney (successful summit in Sept). On my way down, I looked for and found the azimuth mark for the San Jacinto triangulation station. It was right where it was supposed to be. My GPSr recorded 10563 elevation for the AZ, looks pretty close on two topo map sources. I'm just getting around to logging the recoveries from back then. I should be able to get to the Whitney recoveries within a week. (Got Klemmer's Dizkneeland puzzles to finish first) Not to do too much one-upping; but since Klemmer reported RM#2 first, I had to go beyond . I see from the picture thread that he's been hiking high recently as well. Good on ya! Since the tri station is also Waymarked, I'm thinking I'll Waymark this one as well. Well, here's the log San Jacinto Log
  3. Man, talk about bringing a thread back from the dead. I just read the whole thing and thought, "Just waymark it" Then I realized the original posts were from 1993, that'd be BWM (Before Way Marking) I'll have to look to see if it is Waymarked. That epoxy sure looks new, I'm guessing only 2 years old when photographed.
  4. Bill Thanks again I'm using WGS84 in my Meridian. Found my log, I have N37 06.961 W121 04.760 Only 1/1000th of a minute of from your computations - not bad I'd say. My 100 yard guess was pretty close also. I better get on with my Waymarking.
  5. Bill, Thanks. another system I've never heard of. I'd have to spend some time looking for the exact coords; but it's about 100 yards north of this waymark N 37° 06.904 W 121° 04.726
  6. Here's one from the Department of Veteran's Affairs; do we have this one listed yet? I've been meaning to waymark this one; I visit it often. BTW Does anyone recognize the coordinate system? Is it meters east and north of some point? Maybe greenwhich meridian at equator?
  7. Klemmer, Great advice, didn't think that thru so well; duh, try their language! So, I translated Mexico Geodetic on Google and seemed to find STEGI I think it was. Went around the site a bit, and seemed to be in the right direction; but my technical Spanish isn't as good as I thought it might be. I'd never go hungry or be short of beer in ole Mex, but some things are harder. I'll have to get one of my buddies at work to help me.
  8. Anybody know of any benchmarks in Mexico? Or a source of info? I've checked Waymarking and found none, and google searches aren't being productive for me. I'm going on a cruise that stops in Ensenada and need some geek diversions while there.
  9. I'm still having problems and getting ticked. It's happening for multiple routes, even those that have worked before.
  10. I tried multiple times and still get the error. Based upon your other thread, I deselected Wherigo - still I don't go.
  11. Topic says it all. I just uploaded a new route and when I push the submit information button to create the PQ from it, I get an error page General Error Page Anybody else having the same problem? Guess my drive tonight won't yield any caches.
  12. I mentioned this on another forum, but aren't geocaches a bit like peak or summit registers? There locations are listed on websites by location, people open them up and sign their name and the date. Maybe we should inquire upon the superintendent to remove all of these within the park as well.
  13. I've only actually submitted one of my recoveries to NGS. I need to go back and probably submit a bunch. As I'm relatively new to this and learning what is appropiate for NGS, I've been holding off. Klemmer, I got about a dozen in Imperial County back in September (~112ºF!), maybe that can add to the coloring.
  14. Having fallen into a an ice covered creek during a blizzard myself at altitude; I'm glad to here everyone is OK. Karma sure can be weird.
  15. I have Vista ( hate it with a passion) I use GSAK for GC and BM and WM downloads to my memory cards for my MeriPlat Easygps will send and receive waypoints directly to my MeriPlat (make sure to get the right settings) DeLorme Topo works for downloading from MeriPlat, haven't tried up yet. MapSend programs aren't working for me with Vista, neither is my favorite NG Topo. All in regular Vista, haven't tried other modes.
  16. I found a new one and waymarked it last week. LADWP Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Thanks BDT for updating the Waymarking agencies. WM2XWE
  17. Man, I gotta get some material and get cooking. My wife loves to make and eat chocolate, and so do I and the little one.
  18. Can I be the first idiot to tell them to look up?
  19. One method is to go to GC.com to find a benchmark. Do a search by location of your choosing. In 25 BM pages you will see each BM listed; with smilies showing any gc.com recoveries. Here's a decent example showing a mix of recovery types. 95050 Zip BM's Alson, using GSAK and county downloads, you could probably set up a filter or macro to give better data.
  20. I got no Xmas colors, but a find just the other day, on the 29th. A1297 So, who's gonna have the last recovery of the year?
  21. I love that Described unknown and then Recovered as described. Does that mean it was unknowingly recovered? How about GADT saying (paraphrasing) "Someone told us about it"
  22. That map says proposal, while it's probably for the wilderness areas; it may also be someone's dream of the park itself. Anybody know if this is approved?
  23. Actually not true. Federal is Federal and State is State. CA has its' own policies and guidelines and laws for state parks. Are the ABDSP rangers also removing all peak registers in the park? Are not the two somewhat similar? Each are a container at a place where one logs a visit. Perhaps this similarity could be pointed out. How can they ban Earth or Virtual (Waymarks) caches? Are these not just directions to a place? If public access is allowed to the spot, then why prohibit a guidebook publishing it? Will they now ban all geology books and tourist books for ABDSP?
  24. PilotInstall worked right off the get go. Limits my PDA usefullness, but cachemate is my "killer app" right now. After using Pilotinstall, Hotsync worked; don't know if it's related or not. It's good to know I have an option if Hotsync doesn't work.
  25. I've used a Handspring Visor Deluxe for years. Monochrome, backlight, 8MB can hold literally thousands of caches without a problem. I recently broke mine and after a week or so of working Ebay got one nearly totally new shipped for 10.01 Used it for a week, got a new computer with Vista and now cannot get it to reliably sync.
