  1. That's how I roll every time I cache. Just me and Mr. eTrex.
  2. If you post your street address here, I'm sure a local cacher there would be happy to, uh..."safeguard" your Jeep Travel Bug! Log: Found GJTB in mailbox hybrid.
  3. Welcome. I use a Geko 101 or an eTrex yellow, depending on my mood. I have had both in heavy tree cover without problems. The Geko was an eBay purchase for $40. The Yellow was a secondhand gps bought from the Garage Sale forums here on GC. Either can be had new for under $100. Wally World has the Yellow at most stores for $90, good to go out of the box. You can get a cable to download waypoints into the Yellow for about $10 on eBay. Also, PM sent regarding something else. edit: to make me sound less stoopid and get rid of sentence fragment.
  4. I haven't had a response and pm'd/emailed on 07/05/06. I'm thinking the poster abandoned the thread.
  5. What probably happened was someone found it on the 22nd, then logged it into GC today. What most likely is happening here is people are doing a search on an area and seeing the new cache before the weekly new cache notification is sent out. Some cachers check their local areas many times a day to see if there are new caches that they can FTF. Or...it is a conspiracy to mess with your mind.
  6. Are you using the right datum? Could be you are set on something other than WGS84. Also, other GPS units may not be as accurate as yours, which could account for why all of the caches you found were off by 20-30 feet based on your readings. Or, you suck.
  7. What is MYOB? edit:Nevermind, had a brain fart. Mind Your Own Business.
  8. I don't completely ignore them. I try to take the time to review each cache, large or small, and decide to look for it based upon how it interests me. I prefer to find regular sized caches over micros, but only for the logbooks. For me, it is more interesting to read a journal entry and gain some knowledge of the history of the cache while at the cache location. If I liked the cache, I will handwrite a nice journal entry in the logbook about my experiences of finding that particular cache. I rarely trade swag or trinkets.
  9. I don't like nano's and would not look for it.
  10. My weapon of choice is a Garmin eTrex. Yellow. On purpose. Nothing fancy for me, thank you. No map to the cache, please. No turn by turn directions. I would rather find a cache than be lead to it. Part of my fun in caching is having to figure out how to get to where the pointer is pointing. I upgraded to the yellow last month, from a Geko 101. Only for the larger screen and longer battery life. Reception seems to be the same.
  11. Um, I'm not sure where you're from, but "cowpeating" is illegal here.
  12. I would never log a find on my own cache, but I would post to a thread that I started to boost my forum posts.
  13. As of the time of this posting "There are 289212 active caches in 222 countries" as listed on the home page. Isn't that enough for you? If you want to impose new rules, start your own local club and make part of the membership requirements be your propsed 10% ratio. Oh wait, you can't do that because you haven't achieved that ratio yet. So sorry. I guess maybe you need to live up to your own standard before beating on the pulpit.
  14. A good way to never get help from the forums is to tell others to relax. You are the one who appeared uptight over your cache not getting posted, not anyone who responded to your posts. I fail to see the dimishing remarks that you refer to. FWIW, did you followup with the reviewer and ask for suggestions after your cache wasn't published, or did you come to the forums to try and call your reviewer out and make it a public issue?
  15. Brunton Classic baseplate. edit for smaller pic
  16. I have a Geko 101. I know that several of the smaller cell phone cases will fit it, but the cases usually cover the antenna and interfere with the reception. I took an old tape measure, took the clip off of it, and attached it to the back of the Geko using the clip mount on the back. Can't remember what size screw it takes. The metal clip won't break, holds tight, and doesn't cover the antenna. You might also check ebay, do a search on "geko" and it turns up quite a bit.
  17. GSAK on an older PC with Windows 98SE. Palm IIIxe with Cachemate. I also use a program that converts benchmark data to gpx format, and have benchmarks in GSAK and on Cachemate as well.
  18. I live in Ritzville and have never had GPS reception problems out here. I use a Geko 101, no WAAS, Sirf, or anything else fancy. You really didn't say how close is close, or what kind of reciever you are using. How many feet from GZ are we talking here? Is it all East caches or just certain areas East?
  19. Jeep #1062 has been handed off. Thanks all for the discussion, debate, and hate mail.
