  1. WOW!! I haven't been into the forums in a while, so my apologies for not coming in sooner. I got it about two weeks ago, but life is crazy with work and baby and work and baby and planning 1st b-day parties and a trip to texas and that left --> <-- much time for internet and caching!! ugh!

I was talking to the wife on the way home from work and she asked what I bought, and it had come in an odd black mailer. First thought was that I couldnt remember anything recent. I got home and rushed up to see what it could be! Custom stamp said GEO_BANDIT, so I knew it was geo-related but hadnt ordered anything recently. I opened it and out fell a sweet coin in my hand!

this #265 is yellow up front and green on the back. The lady has black hair and the color of the number matchs the background to boot!

from what I have seen so far, they are all yellow fronts with green and blue backgrounds on the back. this one has black hair, but I thought I remember seeing one with brown hair in a previous picture. Very nice coin design and I love the details, especially the bandana, neat effect.

It is my very first mystery geocoin. Thank you so much for the wonderful gift, you roped me in as well!!

  2. I am wondering how much effect gas prices are having on the hobby? .... now I am wondering if I will ever get out there very much to find new ones? There are a bunch close to me, that I will probaly try to find, but further away, probaly never.

Gas prices have not effect on my caching. I have not decided to do any less caching due to the rising prices, but I don't have to go too far out yet to still find available caches.

    An example:

Caching trip = 100 miles driving (I rarely to go this far in one trip)

    Milage = 20 MPG

this means 5 gallons used (assuming no idling).

Last year $2.559 for a gallon costing $12.80 for the trip

I paid $3.279 for a gallon on Thursday costing $16.40 for the trip.

I hate paying more today than I did yesterday for something, but I look at it from another angle. I paid $16 for a day of fun. Going to an amusment park, ski pass or a concert ticket all cost way more than 16 bucks. Oh wait, you still have to drive to those events.

You could always car pool to caches or wait to do caches in one area at once.

  4. They're heeeeerrrreeeeee:

    Kuntry Kashin Ant Gold

    Kuntry Kashin Ant Silver

The one listed as Ant Bronze? is the Ant Silver.

The picture of the Ant Gold looks more like the Ant Copper that will be trade only by me.

The Ant Gold looks more like, well, Antique Gold (it is Gorgeous!!)

get 'em while they're hot... they seem to be going pretty fast.

I just checked the website and this coin is listed as OUT OF STOCK already. :(

  5. This is a Christmas favorite in our house:

Not too easy, not too hard

    Spiral Coffee Cake

    Prep 40 minutes plus rising

    Bake 30 to 35 minutes

    Coffee Cake Dough

    1/2 cup warm water (105 to 115 degrees F)

    2 packages active dry yeast

1 teaspoon plus 1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup butter or margarine stick), softened

    1 large egg

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    about 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

    Choice of Filling (recipes follow)

Coffee Cake Glaze (optional) (recipe follows)

    Coffee Cake Dough

    1. In medium bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and 1 teaspoon sugar; stir to dissolve. Let stand 5 minutes, or until foamy.

    2. In large bowl, with mixer at low speed beat butter with remaining 1/2 cup sugar until blended. Increase speed to high; beat until creamy, about 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally with rubber spatula. Reduce speed to low; beat in egg until blended. Beat in yeast mixture, salt, and 1/2 cup flour (batter will look curdled) just until blended. With wooden spoon, stir in 2 1/2 cups flour until blended.

    3. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and knead about 8 minutes, until smooth and elastic, working in about 1/4 cup more flour as necessary just to keep dough from sticking,

    4. Shape dough into ball. Place in greased large bowl, turning dough over to grease top. Cover and let rise in warm place (80 to 85 degrees F) until doubled, about 1 hour.

    CINNAMON-SUGAR FILLING

In small bowl, combine 1/2 cup packed brown sugar, 1/2 cup blanched almonds, toasted and chopped, and 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon. After rolling out dough, brush with 2 tablespoons melted butter or margarine and sprinkle with sugar mixture. Makes about 1 cup.

    Making the Coffee Cake

    1. Prepare Coffee Cake Dough. (steps above)

    2. Punch down dough. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; cover and let rest 15 minutes. Meanwhile, grease 17" by 14" cookie sheet.

    3. With floured rolling pin, roll dough into 18" by 12" rectangle. Spread filling over dough to within 1/2 inch of edges. Starting at one long side, roll up dough jelly-roll fashion. Carefully lift roll and place, seam side down, on prepared cookie sheet. Shape roll into ring; press ends together to seal. With kitchen shears or clean scissors, cut ring at 1 1/2-inch intervals, up to but not through inside edge (see photo). Gently pull and twist each cut piece to show spiral filling. Cover and let stand in warm place (80 to 85 degrees F) until dough has risen slightly, about 1 hour. (Dough will continue to rise during baking.)

    4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Bake 30 to 35 minutes until golden. Transfer wreath to wire rack to cool completely. When cool, drizzle with Coffee Cake. Glaze, if desired. Makes 16 servings.

    Coffee Cake Glaze

In small bowl, mix 1 cup confectioners' sugar with 2 tablespoons milk until smooth. With spoon, drizzle over cooled coffee cake. Makes about 6 tablespoons.

  6. As a premium member, I keep track of my DNFs by adding them to a bookmark list. When I find the cache I delete it from the bookmark list. I guess I could have another list for "conquered" if I wanted to keep track of the caches I DNF'd and later found.

I use a bookmark list as well to keep track of DNF's. Once I find it, the cache comes off the list. Another added benefit is that I can set the bookmark to notify me when caches on the list are logged. That way I can see if it was just me or if others are having issues as well.

  7. I know this has been hashed a bit, but I'd like some fresh perspectives on this topic...

This cache was published yesterday evening and I saw no logs for it...great, I can go for FTF on this one. However, as I read past the reviewer's "published" log, I noticed that someone is claiming a FTF on this.

I mean, I'm not one to really care all that much about being FTF or not, but I think that it is poor form to claim a FTF when you undoubtedly either A. was with the cacher that placed the log, or B. was notified of the cache pre-publication.

    What do you all think?

There are other ways to find a cache besides reading the cache listing on GC.com. Read the first log left on this cache . GC.com is just one listing service out there. A hundred people could have found it before it was published here.

"only a simple man would think that he is the center of the universe" - unknown :D

I've read that log entry three times and have yet managed to make a connection between that log and something to do with multiple cache listing services. What did I miss? :D:D:D

You missed the ESP that my brain was producing and you unknowingly forgot that my dyslexia had rearranged the sentences into an incoherent jumble.

The log should have said " There are other ways to find a cache besides reading the cache listing on GC.com. GC.com is just one listing service out there. A hundred people could have found it before it was published here.

A local cacher didn't even need any. Read the first log left on this cache . "

I believe that will enlighten you. :D
