The Geocaching app isn't really designed for you to manually enter caches into the device. You either look up caches while you have a data connection or use a pre downloaded PQ. You can however enter in coords for the next stage of a multi or puzzle but it only holds onto that info long enough for you to find the location. When you enter another set of cords it drops the previous set.
  2. When you upload a cache via the cache page with the GPX file you will get cache descriptions, hints and recent logs. But that info won't show on your GPSr unless it is capable of doing paperless caching. You can also run a Pocket Querie which can give you up to 1000 caches in a single .GPX file giving you all the paperless data for each cache. So have a look at what PQs can do for you. Just keep in mind, in order to take advantage of the paperless data you have to have a unit that supports it. http://www.geocaching.com/pocket/default.aspx
  3. Does you unit have a good sat lock? If its still looking fro the sats then mileage to cache won't be right since it doesn't know where it is at in relation to the cache.
  4. Read the trackables page. http://www.geocaching.com/track/default.aspx
  5. The method for sending cache searches to the phone is through a Pocket Querie which is a benefit of Premium membership. One the PQ is generated it can be downloaded to your smart phone through the official app. Also if you have a GPSr that is paperless the PQ gives you all the cache data such as the description, hints and recent logs much like you get through the caching app. BTW the PM is totally worth it. With the PQs you can plan a rout or make a detailed search of caches based on a number of criteria.
  6. Sorry but it can't be done. It sure would be nice if my millage tracker lagged itself but whats one more step in the logging proses?
  7. You need to edit your post to remove the tracking number from the post. All you have to do is go to the trackables page and enter that number into the search field. Once at the tracking page you will log it. This will put it into your inventory. When you drop it off at another cache log the cache find and at the bottom of the log page you will see the TB listed. Use the drop down menu to drop the TB off at the new cache.
  8. Because the GPSr can't communicate with the external magnetic compass to determine it's orientation. If the GPSr isn't moving (close to a waypoint) it won't be able to point to the waypoint without having its bearing. If the GPSr doesn't know where north is, it can't point southeast to the waypoint (cache, dinosaur footprint, whatever you need to get really close to find). Yes the GPSr doesn't know it orientation to magnetic north but it does know the direction the cache is from you. So if the cache is south then the pointer will point south. So you look at your compass to see where south is and start walking in that direction. Soon the pointer on the unit knows which way your heading and the pointer now points in front of you. So a magnetic compass can help prevent you from walking in a direction only to find out you have to turn around and walk in another direction.
  9. Having a paperless unit won't do you much good without a Premium Membership to take advantage of it.
  10. As a PM you should be familier with Pocket Queries. Run your PQ. Once you have downloaded it to your PC and unzipped the files connect the GC to your PC. Treat it like an external drive. From your PC navigate to the Geocaching folder on the unit. Drop your PQ files into that folder and your ready to go. No outside software or drivers are needed.
  11. Online manual YouTube videos Forum search for topics discussing the eTrex 30 Google search for anything talking about the eTrex 30
  12. What does this have to do with the Geocaching app for the iPhone? May want to get a moderator to move this to the right section.
  13. No point in getting the T models. Your paying extra for the topo maps that come with it and some more internal storage. Save that money and get the regular model and use the wealth of free maps you can find online.
  14. Assuming your talking about placing a cache You can go either rout but writing on the container with a permanent marker works best. You can also by stickers that give you the fields to fill in.
  15. Activate your bug and drop it in any near by cache. You can even revisit a cache you've already found and drop the bug. If you do a revisit then log the cache with a Note and drop the bug. When filling out the log you will see your bug listed at the bottom of the page with a drop down menu next to it. Select Dropped and the bug is on its way. Just be aware that bugs and co9ins go missing all the time. So don't send anything off that you don't mind loosing.
  16. If you don't use data then you need to be in an area with WiFi and connected to that WiFi. Will at that WiFi location look up the local caches and set them as favorites. This will save them to the phone and you can look them up in the saved tab. Then you'll be able to search for them while your away from any kind of data connection.
  17. The GC doesn't have a built in charger. Most units won't unless they use there own rechargeable battery. Different types of batteries have different charging needs. If manufactures tried to include a battery charger the user could too easily put the wrong batteries in and destroy the unit and blame the manufacture for the problem. All USB adapters are pretty much the same and have to conform to the USB specifications which call for 5VDC at 500mA minimum.
  18. The Intensity II is not a smart phone and doesn't have a built in GPSr. There are no available aps that are going to help you with Geocaching. Mostly what is available for the phone are productivity apps and games. Its just your basic texting phone.
  19. Great story! It awesome to hear these interesting tails.
  20. First thing to know about the forums. Pick one section fro your question. No need to post the same question in multiple sections of the forums. If your initial thread was posted in the wrong section on of the moderators will happily move it for you.
  21. Unistall both and re download base camp to make sure you have a good download of it. Mapso8urse is no longer supported by Garmin. They are mainly pushing Basecamp. The only time i touch either program is when i'm messing with the maps on my devices. Other then that i use GSAK or EasyGSP to manage my waypoints.
  22. When you first turn on the unit or after you have traveled a good way away from the last location the was on or it has been a long time since it was last on the unit needs time to get a lock on the available sats and update its almanac of the sats it can see. So you need to give it a clear open view of the sky for about 30 minutes.
  23. So your trying to use the Send to GPS button on the cache page? Then make sure you have the Garmin Communicator installed.
