  1. Some android apps that work with the mentioned "other listing site" are the official garmin app, Cache Me, Columbus(this also works with gc.com), and CacheDroid. Couldn't tell you how well they work, since I've never used them.
  2. You're doing a poor job at insulting someone then, since you're using such a common acronym that thanks them. They most likely have no idea you are trying to insult them, and probably will interpret it as encouragement, thus causing them to continue to put out poor quality caches. Probably not, unless they have read some of my logs on other caches. My online logs all go something like: '1352 Hrs. Found, log signed. Thanks for the [] !'. For some caches, that's it. If it appears to me the CO actually put some effort into the cache and their choice of location, there will be more. Occasionally, if it's a really, really, really lame cache I will cut-and-paste several paragraphs from a classic novel, with Melville being my favorite author. An example. Funny People who put out lame caches, most likely don't realize they are lame, thus I don't see why they would recognize that a sole "TFTC" is a lame log. If you want to help reduce the amount of lame caches, then call out the cache owner in your log and say it as it is. Example log: "This is a lame cache, you can do better than this" or "Meh" or "No TFTC". Just some ideas.
  3. I stumbled across this disc http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMA1AE_Thunder_Hole_Acadia_National_Park_HOLE_1944 while "fooling around and being dangerous"(at least according to my girlfriend). It's located near the edge of a cliff/rock outcrop above a local tourist spot called "Thunder Hole" in Acadia National Park. It's a little bit of a climb to get to it.
  4. Adding some new information to the list. Seems like Mike has recruited a new "editor" to scam people out of more money. Richard Garrick - new interm Editor https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003354890757 Interesting enough, he is "friends" with Jeremy Irish on Facebook (well, not that interesting since Jeremy has almost 5,000 "friends") It's hard to find any info on him due to the fact he shares his name with the late Richard Garret actor/director. He lists his residence as San Diego and is from Reykjavik, Iceland Complaints continue to be posted on the geomag facebook page and many continue to be deleted.
  5. Yeah, yeah. Except they didn't do it for the first 9-10 years of Geocaching's existence. Cut me some slack, I was in the military for 22 years. I have a hard time adapting to lameness and half-assedness. Many have brought up in these threads what else are you going to write for another keyholder in a metal streetcorner newspaper box? Believe me, I know, there are no less than 60 of them in my area, 40 by the same person. But as you can probably imagine, this grumpy old guy ignores them. Being in the military, you should be used to acronyms be now.

  7. He removed the link so no!. He said he didn't know it wasn't allowed. But the OP should spend some time reading the guidelines. Just because something doesn't have a link, doesn't mean it isn't a commercial advertisement. The brand name is still in his post This was most definitely advertising the OP's commercial product. (edit: needed to look at the photos again)
  8. I just tried the "Account Details" page, and tried editing my public profile, and had no problems. Probably just a temporary glitch. FWIW, Windows Vista with FF11 Ya, everything is working for me now.
  9. I'm getting the error whenever I try to go to the "Account Details" link under the "Your Profile" drop down on gc.com OS: Win 7 Pro 64bit SP1 Browser: Chrome 18.0.1025.151 beta-m
  10. I feel like you're using these coins, this thread, and geocaching, just to advertise your sculpting product that you sell.
  11. Thanks for introducing this to me. Its a product from the same people who released the inPulse for Blackberry & Android Looks similar to the: Sony LiveView http://www.sonymobil...ories/liveview/ and SmartWatch http://www.sonymobil...ies/smartwatch/ Motorola's MOTOACTV http://www.motorola..../MOTOACTV-US-EN WIMM's WIMM One http://www.wimm.com/wimm_preview.html
  12. See this post: http://forum.asamm.cz/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=1781 and the new opensource project site here: http://code.google.com/p/android-whereyougo/
  13. Can you clarify? There used to be two links for google maps. One, that was labeled "geocaching.com google maps" (or something like that) that was the google maps with the geocaches overlaid. Another which is still there, "google maps" which is just a link with a single pin for the cache (no other caches listed.) Will the second one still be available? My interpretation of what Jeremy has said is that individual cache pages as you see them now, will not change. The only thing changing is that the main dedicated map page located at http://www.geocaching.com/map/ with now use Google Maps if you are a Premium Member
  14. Yes, bing charges for their map content. How much? I'm not sure, their pricing isn't as clear as google's.
  15. Totally agree with this. If people want the maps to improve, then it's up to them to do so. My biggest disappointment with the switch has been the loss of google's satellite imagery. They definitely were the leader in quality compared to other services. Nothing we can do to improve this (I can't afford to launch a satellite into space )
  16. Interesting side note. Looks like Groundspeak has 6 total patents http://assignments.uspto.gov/assignments/q?db=pat&asned=Groundspeak,%20INC.
  17. Great, so now we have to navigate away from the cache page to see a satellite view of the cache location.
  18. So they are going to copy the Munzee... The end of the video should be corrected to "Not Exclusively on Geocaching.com"
  19. Ya, it's still in beta See this website: http://ngs.tsqmadness.com/droid/ and this thread: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=275377&st=0 Send him an email and he'll add you to the beta testing list.
  20. Who is Pi-Soft Consulting, LLC? They have a poor reputation on WOT(Web of Trust) http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/pi-soft.com/comment?src=addon-rw-viewsc#comment although I don't know why. It would definitely make me think twice before installing the Wherigo app
  21. This gives me an idea for a great local earthcache. Maybe it'll be my first published earthcache, time to get to work
  22. As the topic says, What's your favorite software app that you use to help you find benchmarks? This can be anything thing by the way. Some examples could be: DSWorld GSAK Geocaching.com BenchMap etc. Personally my favorite lately has been BenchMap for Android. I'm not a hardcore benchmark hunter, but I do enjoy finding them. I have an Oregon 450 that I use for planned geocaching trips where I might be out of cell range (which is very often up here in Maine), but I primarily use my phone to do the bulk of my geocaching. What I love about this app is that while I'm out searching for geocaches I can pull out the BenchMap app and see all the NGS marks around me with out any preplanning on my part. It's awesome for some spontaneous benchmark hunting. What's everyone else's favorite apps? I also figure this might be a good topic get a list of all the apps that might be out there that are helpful to benchmarking. These apps can be for: Windows 8/7/Vista/XP Windows Mobile Windows Phone 7 Mac OS X iOS Android webOS Symbian web apps / websites anything
  23. I haven't read through the entire 14pages of posts so I apologize if this has already bean asked, but how many of the 2mil google map hits are done by premium members? If google map access was limited to just premium members, how far over would Groundspeak go over the limit of 25,000 per day? *numbers that are not known are pull out of thin air If have of Groundspeak hits are from premium members than lets say if access was restricted to just them, Groundspeak would have 1mil* hits per day. That's still 975,000 over the limit. Google charges $4 per every 1000 hits if you don't have a license which would mean Groundspeak would be charged ~$975 per day or $355,875 per year. Now I know Groundspeak advertises that they have 5mil geocachers, but I also know that the amount of premium members is not going to be anywhere near that. Lets say there are 100,000* premium cachers. This would mean each premium cacher would be responsible for ~$3.56 of google map caches per year. Would users be willing to eat that cost if Groundspeak passed it on? Can Groundspeak further reduce the number of hits by premium members by reducing the number of times a google map shows up on various locations on the website? Also, can Groundspeak get an even better deal from google if they negotiate a license? Google doesnt advertise the price of a license, but there is a good chance that given the amount of hits Groundspeak sends to google, they could probably get a better rate than the $4 per 1000hit standard. Also, with a license comes a whole list of sweet perks and features that would be a beneficial addition to geocaching.com (and maybe even other gs websites). All questions I'm sure Groundspeak has probably gonna over and analyzed and I may be way out of line due to pulling numbers out of thin air. I just hope Groundspeak really puts a TON of thought into serving their premium users best and reconsiders adding google maps.
  24. I find it odd that's it's still called beta and still has that ridiculous popup even though it's now the default map and replaced the old one.
