  1. If Jeremy frows upon TB prison "rules", and the hotel owners are butting heads with the travel bug owners, then an easy solution would to have the cache approvers not approve any hotel with such rules imposed upon the travel bugs, and any hotels which are approved would be done so with a note not to add any rules. But wait, that would be making a new rule about not having any rules and we don't need anymore rules....
  2. 51 parts?? Let me guess, the 51st part would be 100 feet from the first part?
  3. You mean TNLNSL - Took nothing, left nothing, signed log
  4. NO. It may just be their personal preference. I have found many caches that were easy to get to, AND easy to find - I just wish there WAS something difficult. But as to - difficult to get to, AND difficult to find? That just makes it better (as long as you actually DO find it )
  5. I heard music on one cache page and I thought it sounded good(spooky). So I look for music to put on my cache pages and I cant find any that really sounds any good(I listened to a lot) So I put movie quotes (wav files) on a few of my cache pages. I also used small files that load quick. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...50-3c98fd82858d http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...96-2936bafb5508 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...2c-bd94f25c131d http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...40-a00d83d5165f on this cache page I just used sound effects http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...4b-0c53c762540b
  6. I think a posted inventory is a good idea in some caches to let the owner and others know what is going on with the cache, and whether it needs to be restocked. I have done it a few times. To do it to every cache might be a waste of time, but on the other hand, if cachers know that someone might post an inventory after their visit, they may be more likely to trade up, than down.
  7. I wouldnt mind sending them to sweden but AFTER the contest, as only US residents are eligible and many wont see the jeeps at all.
  8. Keep the jeeps moving? Who cares if they move or not. You guys get too worried and upset about such trivial matters. And if people keep them? SO WHAT. Sheesh..... AM I concerned? NOOOOOO. But on a completely unrelated topic, I would like to say that the rumors about the White Jeep travelbugs containing a small amount of radioactivity IS true. It seems that the production point was very slightly contaminated accidentally. But they ARE completely safe, only enough radiation as a few x-rays. But that is only if you have them in your possession for a few days, or a week or so, after that the radiation has a synergic effect, meaning, that it multiplies and may be hazardous. So just drop them off in a timely fashion...........
  9. I drove 80 miles to look for a white jeep TB, but when I got there I couldnt find the cache. So when I got back, that night,(sunday) I logged a DNF, and wrote that it probably was muggled. A few hours later, I get an e-mail from a cacher saying he was there after me and found the cache and has the jeep. The next day(monday) I check the site, and he never logged his find, or the jeep. I send him an e-mail telling him he should log the jeep and his find to avoid others for making a trip. Tuesday night he finally logs the Jeep, but he never logs his visit(and it still isnt logged) Why do people do this? He already has another Jeep in his possession so he knows how to log it.
  10. Its the area. I live in south Jersey and hid a couple caches that werent that difficult. A couple people got upset because they thought they were really difficult and under rated for terrain. I had based the terrain rating on what I encountered while caching in several states(Georgia, Tennessee) So I thought about it, and raised the terrain rating to match the caches that were local. Most of the caches have easy terrain around here, so I just made the terrain level in comparison to them. Now everyones happy. If you overrate the terrain then no one can complain about any surprises.
  11. If they want to keep people from keeping the jeeps for themselves, they ought to announce that after the contest is over they will put ANOTHER 5000(or as many as it takes) up for SALE. That way nobody will have any interest in thinking they are "collectibles" as long as there are some available. I would duplicate all 5000 names(but with different ID tags) and ship the jeeps out to the buyers with the jeep corp as the owner - but give the buyers an option to change the name and ownership, or keep it the same. That way people could keep them if they wanted to, or send them off with their own name attached. Adopting them would be a good idea if it was after the contest and you had one(of the original 5000) in your possession, you could pay Groundspeak for a "title" and then choose to keep it, or continue to have it travel as a TB. (But if you kept one for longer than 22 days during the contest period any future "ownership" claims would be revoked) If many people chose to keep them, there would still be many identical ones available for sale and in circulation.

  13. NFA did the right thing by logging and distributing the jeeps at the event(although caches would have been better in my personal opinion) But there are SEVEN yellow jeeps STILL logged into the event from 6-18-04. I can understand people getting upset about this, if they havent been able to log one at all. One cacher still has 3 yellow jeeps in her possesion from the event. The 7 people that got them at the event, did they think they were collectible doorprizes? If they were in a actual geocache I think some people would more likely understand the "travel" concept - moving from cache to cache. The recent white jeep event (from a few days ago)has 6 white jeeps still in the event cache also. I hope they dont meet the same fate. I dont understand why people would keep them. They have no value to any one that doesnt go geocaching. And to geocachers their only value is moving them along. Am I right? Would a cacher really pay money for one? How stupid is that?
  14. There is NOTHING wrong with logging or"grabbing" a jeep you received to distribute and I dont see any flames in this thread for that. It is good to have an initial starting point. However passing the # around to your buddies(NOT saying you did that, WH) is a different story, as these are VIRGIN jeeps........
  15. A voltage spike from the car might have fried it. The cable doesnt have an inline fuse, does it? Does the car have the correct AMP fuses in the fuse box? Sometimes people will substitute a higher amp fuse when they run out. This allows a higher than acceptable current to go places where you dont want it to. There is a transformer in the GPS which converts 12volts to 3volts, but I dont think that would be it. I know Garmin will repair it, but the charge will be around $100. If you bought an identical one from a store like Wal-mart that accepts returns, and somehow got the two "mixed up" ........
  16. I dont believe its cheating. I was just holding you to your own standards. Whether someone pads the #s by getting the code off of someone else's picture, or swaps #s with a buddy, there's not much of a difference to me. Its like someone who comes back from a day of fishing with a load of catfish - from the supermarket. Its not cheating because everyone can see where the #s came from, but you really have to look. No, I wouldnt do it, I have no motive to. Back in the old days, we used to get jeep travelbugs out of caches. And we walked to school in 2 feet of snow, uphill, both ways....
  17. Chain or tether it to the bottom of a tree, and make it able to float, so it doesnt stay underwater too long and if some one is caching during high water they can find it.
  18. I'm just WAITING for the day to come, that someone, for whatever reason, hides a box full of money somewhere, and some other idiot finds it and calls the bomb squad. The bomb squad arrives, they blow the box up, cash flies everywhere, it appears on the national news. THEN, maybe, this wouldn't happen so often...
  19. Vargseld? You've been a very NAUGHTY boy ! http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=191220 http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=191677 http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=190849 http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=190299 http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=189562 http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=189463 http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=189283 http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=192561 I would suggest putting a lock on the topic
  20. It all depends on WHY you go caching. At first, I went caching to find the "TREASURE", which intrigued me. I could not understand a game surviving by people hiding valuable items(2001) in the woods without them being stolen. The only barrier for people to play is -owning a GPS, and -having internet availability(and being computer semi-literate). But after finding a few caches, I wasnt interested in the swag anymore, it was the LOCATION and the journey to it. Many caches introduced me to interesting areas to explore - that I had never known about - even though I believed that I was very familiar with the area. I notice some people cache for the HIDE - example: a micro on top of a never-used flagpole in the woods, or a fake electrical box with a geocaching sticker on the outside where you need to do a puzzle to figure out the combo to the padlock. Both of these were in boring locations, but the cleverness of the hide made them worthwhile. Thats why I do it #1-location, #2-hide, and the last reason is trading swag. Of course I like to look at the swag because sometimes its interesting - or take a travel bug to move, but otherwise- so what. I try to hide regular sized containers so people can move travel bugs, but thats the only reason. Its easy to fill them(youd be surprized at how much decent stuff you can get at Wal-mart for under $2 each) If people are trading crap it doesnt really bother me, I figure it either kids, or someone thats really hard off.
  21. If the person physically visits the cache twice, I dont see anything wrong with logging it twice (or more)as a find. Its nice to have frequent visitors at caches, showing that its a good hide, and to have people check on them. I doubt a person would visit a cache multiple times just to boost their numbers. The number of HIDES is what impresses me the most. Where would we be without cachers hiding caches in the first place?
  22. I believe the purpose is to actually find them in a cache. Not event caches but ones where you use your GPS and navigate difficult terrain and overcome obstacles to obtain the icon. About 85% of all the logs that I have seen for Jeep TBs are from people who got them in events or grabbed the # from a buddy, ect. This kind of cheapens the meaning of the icon for those that went to a difficult cache to find one. People WILL come to events that DONT have white jeeps. I have a watch on several jeeps, and today I just received 15 e-mails from ONE that was at an event. The fun is finding them in a cache Just my personal opinion.
  23. LOL, I noticed that on Maddog1488s logs. I dont know why someone would do that, unless they believe that just logging a jeep will give them a chance to win. (IT DOESNT) But then I noticed that some of the bugs you distributed were logged by people who never really "had" them either, so whats the difference?
  24. Not the first time this has happened http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...opic=31190&st=0
  25. This cache was one of my earliest finds http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...24-4fab1b2abbf8 the cacher who placed it passed away in 2003, but the cache is still there. I believe there are local cachers looking after it.
