  1. I wasn't intending on releasing the code, just using it for a specific purpose, such as logging it at each event I visit, or similar. But I haven't had inspiration about what to do.
  2. I planned on having a geocoin to take to meets, and to use to track my personal mileage. Then two days ago, I saw that the mega-wales slate coins were back in stock, so I ordered one of each design. Last night, I went to a caching meet, and won two more coins. So suddenly I have four, but only really have plans for one. What should I do with them? One of last nights prizes is now my mileage tracker. It's georgeous, a 10 year roulette style with amazing detail visible through the lacquer. There's no way it's leaving my sight, and if anyone wants to discover a coin of mine, I'll be proud to show it off. The other prize from last night, I'm not so excited about. I think I will launch it on a mission - it will be nice using it as a proper trackable to visit the world. That leaves the slate coins. I need to activate one, as I want to show it off at meets. Because of this, it would be nice to use the tracking code for a purpose, but I don't know what that should be. Please help. As for the other slate coin, should I activate it, or leave it unactivated?
  3. They look superb, I've ordered one of each. Out of interest, how many have been made so far, and how many do you think will be made by the time production ends. I like the appeal of owning a rare coin.
  4. I had a look at the cache today, and saw this; So someone was stealing lots of bugs from there. Such a shame, especially as it was a well visited cache.
  5. It's usually the file size. I have to make my photos smaller to upload them. Irfanview does this well.
  6. It's a keyring pen. It's tiny when attached to my keyring, but extends like an aerial to a useable length. Genius. I think my wife got it for me to stop me asking if she has a pen in her bag when I'm near an urban cache, but it will also stop those middle-of-nowhere swearing sessions, when I realise my pen is in the car. Happy christmas everyone!
  7. I'm definitely not blaming you DP, I'm basically asking a bit of a newbie question because I found it odd that a few bugs seem to have gone missing from this hotel and I was wondering why the CO would put a note stating all was well, while marking lots of bugs missing. I've been through the list and quite a lot were marked missing on that date. Since then I've looked at some other hotels and it seems that lots of bugs go missing from those too, and from caches which aren't hotels. I guess you could be right, that there are lots of people with caching apps on their smartphones, who may not bother to learn the rules or play properly. I'm still finding my feet and learning what is normal, particularly in terms of cache and bug lifespan.
  8. Thanks. I really should stop fretting over bugs so much.
  9. A travel bug I've been watching has gone missing, and the logs make interesting reading. Many of the older ones list that bugs are missing, but I'll pick the story up on October 24th *wibbly lines* Bigfoot is the TB I was tracking. So bugs seem to be going missing quite often. I'll skip 3 logs, most of which mention bugs being dropped off, and a note appears from the cache owner; At this point, bigfoot TB is marked as officially missing by V & R. So what's going on, it seems to me that there is a hotel which is eating loads of bugs, but the owner is reporting it as safe, and well hidden by everyone who visits. It seems like a bug nightmare to me, a cache designed to attract bugs, but one from which very few every emerge again, yet the owner insists that all is well. The cache in question is GC180V4 . Is there any way to easily check how many bugs have gone missing from it?
  10. I'd love to, but I'm still waiting for access to the members forum
  11. Published is the right word. http://img.geocaching.com/track/log/d9e135...0425ef7450a.jpg Geocaching magazine, Germans.
  12. I knew not to chase someone from scotland about caches... I bet you've forgotten what they look like! So far I've released 5 bugs. They are; 1 - In the hands of Mr Plenty, snowed in in Scotland. 2 - In what I thought was a busy cache, but turns out to only be busy in the summer. It went 5 months without a visit last winter, and I can't be bothered to go move it myself! 3 - In a pub. 4 - In a cache and dash near home that was getting a visitor a day, but hasn't been visited now for 3 weeks. 5 - In the office internal mail between here and Arizona, where it was sent two weeks ago. I'm sure it'll all pick up soon.
  13. Newbie question alert... Of all of my travel bugs, only one has moved anywhere since I released them a few weeks ago, which is fine, given the weather... but The one which has moved has confused me a bit. It went to a pub GC2J0GB - A caching christmas. 71 other bugs went to the pub too, but only 54 left it, and mine is one that is enjoying this lock-in. I've never been to one of these events, so I'm wondering what the shizzle is. Has someone taken my bug home and not logged it? Is it still at the pub? Did the person who took it to the pub mean to dip it instead of drop it, or does everyone swap swag? What normally happens with events like this?
  14. Had it been used in the log? Can you link up that date with a date on the online log?
  15. Perhaps that field hasn't updated quickly. They can't log without being logged on, so it's most likely a software bug. Check tomorrow and see if their last visit updates.
  16. Hmm, that didn't work so well. I was trying to point out that if you search for a cache using the map page, each cache now has a number, so you can work out which is which in the table more simply. Genius
  17. "Retrieve" is obvious, but to me "Discover" doesn't have any implications of taking or leaving. Likewise "Grab" doesn't sound particularly different to "Retrieve".
  18. I'm not saying I'm right in my stereotyping, but at least I'm owning up to it. Everyone stereotypes other people, whether you admit it or not. For example; My last car was a red sports car, which I had turbocharged to double the power. It had a full roll cage and was very fast. I'm well aware that most other road users treated me with suspicion, and probably gave me more room on the road assuming that I was a boy racer with a death wish and no care for other road users. In fact, I've never had an accident, I have only one speeding ticket in those 16 years - and it wasn't in that car. I owned that car as I did trackdays, and competed in a couple of sprint championships. It also taught me a lot about car maintainence. I didn't go around trying to tell people who had been menaced by boy racers that they were wrong about me. I just accepted that not everyone would share my passion, and knew that the people who really knew me would learn who I was. The same goes for rottweiler owners. There are many people who will share your love for dogs, and will understand and love your dog. On the other hand there are plenty of people like me who do not understand dogs, and have no wish to interact with them. Our experience of being growled at, scared, and bitten reinforced by countless news articles about children being attacked by rottweilers who "had never done that before". So I'm being honest. I do not understand why anyone would choose to own a potentially dangerous animal, just as you probably don't understand why anyone would own a fast red sports car. I don't fully understand the dog owning decision - what I read is reinforced by the attack I suffered. I can't hear anyone explaining the good points of a rottweiler over other breads. No-one is correcting my viewpoint - yet. I'm not saying that you are wrong or a bad person, far from it. I'm just explaining how I and other people will perceive you is they see you from a distance in the street, before they meet and get to know you. Read around this forum, there is a lot of suspicion about dogs on here, mostly due to peoples bad experiences. "He's never done that before" is almost becoming a catchphrase. Without anyone to properly explain the counter argument, this is how I, and many others are going to feel.
  19. Do you really find it that odd? I don't mean to offend you, but as a non-dog owner I really don't understand the thought process behind buying a Rottweiller / bull terrier etc. I'm not sure if a Dobermann fits into the same category or not, I'm a very long way from being a dog expert. I'm happy to be educated, but I can not think of a single reason for choosing a dog with a reputation for attacking children, over one with a reputation for being woolly, having long ears, or a strong desire to round up sheep. Why did you choose a Dobermann? If I see someone with a Rottweiller, I will automatically assume that they have bought it in order to appear hard. The same as if I saw someone with a skinhead and lots of tattoos. I could be wrong, I don't know them or you personally, however I will make that assumption. This dog, by all accounts, had very nice owners. However it bit me. It would not have bit me if it was a chihuahua I'm sure you are a nice person, with a nice dog, however if I see you in the street, I am always going to question your motives for wanting to own a dangerous and unpredictable animal, and I am certainly going to go out of my way to avoid you for fear of being attacked without provocation. Again.
  20. @bullyvine - Sorry to hear about your thief. If someone is breaking into your property, then any injury they sustain during reasonable defence should be their tough luck. A dog will protect it's territory, and should be allowed to do so. The dog that bit me was also defending its territory, however the difference is that its owners had not defined its territory properly. My feelings on dogs haven't changed, I wasn't particularly surprised by the attack to be honest. I don't have a high opinion of many (not most) dogs or their owners. What sort of person chooses to own a potentially dangerous animal? It makes me wonder if I should add spikes to my car to make me look harder, and to hell with anyone who messes with me on the road.
  21. Here in Southampton, we had 8" of snow in one night. The roads on my estate were a nightmare, as you'd expect. The larger roads were better, but still bad. The motorways at 7am were two lanes good, one lane slushy. However... there was a jacknifed lorry blocking one junction, and another blocking a roundabout on a dual carriageway not far from it. Right now, it's 5C and raining hard. Again. There's still some hard ice but I don't think it will still be there in the morning.
  22. Lets see if this works. Feel free to name any of the 213 caches in this area. It should be quite easy for some of you.
  23. I'm too impatient! I'm also expecting a few more tags for Christmas, so I will hopefully have a couple to take along to that event.
