  1. 748 within 17.8 miles. In my area there are ~650 in the same space with more coming. I know of a few cachers that have 30-100 and a couple with several hundred hides. I appreciate thier efforts and see little benefit to add any more restrictions.

    correct dates?

I was looking over my list of nearest caches and saw that some had been found Today. I checked one and the date for the most recent log was from the day before. Others had Yesterday listed and the date was correct. Possible lag in the actual logs from today showing up or just some other small glitch? Three that are showing Today as the last found with day old logs: GC16A76 GC16B3R GC156RZ
  4. Do a google search, but I think you'll find that they are mostly snake oil. Read a first aid manual concerning snake bites. http://firstaid.about.com/od/bitesstings/h..._snakebites.htm http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/first-aid...e-bites/FA00047 There are venomous snakes in the world and some of the areas that we look for caches are the same areas that they inhabit. It's not something to obsess about, just another thing to keep in the back of your mind when in the woods. I'm much more concerned about poison ivy than a snake. That stuff will get ya! You've got a much better chance of being in a wreck on the way to the cache than being bitten by a snake.
  5. As to the hard drive magnets, a google search will point you to several sites for how to, you'll need a couple of small Torx drivers or willingness to just rip 'em apart with pliers. Watch your fingers they can get pinched. This guy has some interesting info along with pics of some hard drvies apart. http://www.dansdata.com/magnets.htm
  6. I think he knew exactly what he was doing, there's pigeons under them there bridges!
  7. I'll add that I also recieved a notifcation today, 9/24 for a cache that was actually listed on 9/12. There seems to be some coming through normally while others are not. I know of atleast two currently that I've found that I've not had a new cache notification email. I'm using Comcast if that makes any difference. Hope it works out.
  8. Sounds right, and it burns like a fireant sting for about an hour or so. I had one that I brushed across the back of my shoulder while reaching for a cache. It was under the nearby limb.
  9. Back on 7/07/07 we had six flash mob style events prior to a seventh regular meet and greet event. They went a lot faster than planned but everyone got a kick out of the different themes. Sequence of events as planned: 5:00 - 5:15 (GC13VMD) The Calm Before the Storm 5:20 - 5:35 (GC13QW5) How Low Can You Go 5:40 - 5:55 (GC13QRZ) Baseball Sing-Along 6:00 - 6:15 (GC13PYP) CODE ZERO 6:20 - 6:35 (GC13R4V) We Salute You 6:40 - 6:55 (GC13PY8) This Sucks 6/7 7:00 - 9:00 (GC13B3P) Lucky 7s
  10. Due to various reason I would suggest narrowing your focus to the regional FL groups found in the list under the pinned topic at the top of this forum. Those folks should be able to point you to areas of interest and you may even find a cache buddy or two if you luck up on an event while in the area. Aside from that, I've spent some time in the swamps and waterways in FL, LA, AL, MS, and GA many times intending to find some of those mentioned critters. Use common sense and poke regular caches with a stick first before just reaching for it. I'd worry more about the bugs like fireants and skeeters and some of the plants. Know what saw grass and palmetto are and how to avoid them are good things to keep in mind.
  11. http://zbadventures.comicgenesis.com/ These guys put out a blog that is a hoot and now they have started a comic. The blog where it all began.... http://geoadventures.blogspot.com/
  12. I found one recently that wasn't too out of the ordinary except for the smell, a rather pleasant grape scent. Seems the local rodents liked it as well as the cap was gone and the baggy had been chewed. It was one of those flavored cigar tubes. There seems to be a trend in some areas to use a baggie that has been duct taped, usually with a magnet inside but not always. IF the cache is placed back in the correct manner it seems to do ok, but that isn't always the case and these can become rather foul with mold.
  13. Look on the right hand side of the main page of GC.com, there is a list of stories under the "in the news" heading. http://www.geocaching.com/press/
  14. Learn from experience. Have a spare, house key and/or car key in your wallet.
  15. I'd suggest you check the GA specific forums under the heading at the top of this forum. You'll find some great folks and a lot more activity. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=160093
  16. If I recall it says Memory Full and it doesn't load addl waypoints. Then you get a Map60
  17. My GF had a cache out for just a short time and both a dead bird and a dead opposum turned up nearby. Added a bit of difficulty just to be near the cache site but that is an actual hazzard of nature. Those that found it during the time the animals were getting back to nature just noted it in the logs. The OP seems a bit quick to pull the trigger on a witch hunt. Better luck next time.
  18. Look great, I like the copper and antique bronze.
  19. I ordered one of the Take Out coin boxes from Hogwild and it is full of goodies!! Just like the actual carton full of rice this one was packed with 10 coins... Of all things an AL2006, magnetic coin, Chattahoochee Valley Cachers, non trackable from the poker challenge and a Maine Acadia Natl park, keepers of mountain cache, DeLorme challenge, buttermilk benchmark, prague, yosemite stamp. On top of that a couple from Brussels, the Australian coins were in the mail box too.
  20. Maybe I'm missing something. You can get a PQ of up to 500 or as few as 1 based on the number you select. If the Explorists is limiting your POI's to 200 that is not a GC issue but a gpsr issue. The limit for poi's in the Garmin's with an x, removable data cards is whatever the memory will hold but only 1000 in the "geocache" formats. Maybe those will change over time by contacting the manufacturers?
  21. If this has already been explained I missed it. Prior to last weekend using the info provided I was able to load the poi's into the Map60CSx with no trouble. Got that. I went to the .bmp files for the custom icons and picked two and named them same as the two .gpx files. Yet, I still don't see any of my custom poi's on the map screen unless I choose to find and navigate to it. It shows as a blue dot. Am I missing that they don't show up like the typical geocache? or do they and I am still missing something in getting them in there labeled correctly? A step by step FAQ for us for-dummy-types would be greatly appreciated. Some of this intiutive stuff takes some cramming into the cranium. That unmount the drive part I was able to work around by simply removing the card and placing it in a card reader. Worked for me.
  22. She is still our (AL) reviewer but was unable to make it to GW5. I too had sent an email asking about path tag designs but heard no response. All I can suggest is keep trying. From her webpage: http://bumblebuttons.com/index.asp honeychile@justbeeme.com
  23. http://www.gpsonsale.com/garmin/products/60csx.htm Check down below the product description. Not sure if they are available seperate or just with purchase of unit. Details of warranty: Most manufacturer-limited warranties leave you with no protection against the rising cost of repairs after the first year of ownership. The RepairMaster Extended Service Plan from Warrantech can extend your coverage for four additional years after the conclusion of the manufacturer's warranty. http://www.gpsonsale.com/ExtendedWarranty.htm
