  1. I tried to add a gps to my profile, the first option worked, picked garmin, second option picked the Map60Csx....then can't do anything else. As soon as I choose the manufacturer option the whole screen goes transparent grey, second window shows with those two options white, I select man. Chose gps and then the boxes for submit and cancel never change to white. Dead end. I tried changing gps and then tried different makers and gps combos. No change.
  2. You can also use a snap clip on a swivel, just straighten the clip portion. Found in the fishing section at WalMart and just about every store near a body of water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Angeln_z...r_wirbel_01.jpg
  3. If those types are out of your current comfort zone then pass them up. It's interesting to me that many of these urban hides are in public places and if you sit back and do a little people watching you'll notice that most folks are just busy going about what ever they are doing and will pay little attention to what is going on around them. Unless you cross a comfort zone, like looking under the same bench they are sitting on or lifting the lampskirt right next to their car. Look for events in your area and meet some of the locals. There is a group of ladies around where I'm at that get together to cache. Sometimes just a few hours and other times it's an all day hunt.
  4. It's not so much that they are wierd it's just that they are often frustrated to see the same question(s) over and over again. If said newbs would use the search feature before asking a question then much of the angst....who am I kidding? There are just a bunch of grumpy Gus's on the forums, they make Mr. Wilson look like a saint.
  5. I sent them an email asking how big they were, got his back in the reply.
  6. I've seen keyholders stuck inside the triangle shaped metal tube where the two menu boards hang.
  7. This. Anyway, I'd agree, sounds like a repeat. Not to take away from the new cacher but instead of getting worked up, just take a breath, step back, and find out what and why there is an issue(s). It's just a cache, not a living, breathing critter that can't wait till whatever needs to be fixed gets worked out. As to your statement about other caches being placed nearby, always refer back to the "Guidelines": First and foremost please be advised there is no precedent for placing caches. This means that the past listing of a similar cache in and of itself is not a valid justification for the listing of a new cache. http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx
  8. Interesting, curious what size they are? Didn't see a size listed nor anything to compare them to. Anyone know?
  9. If the caches are along the coast there has been fits and starts to get the interest going down there. Few of the Alabama cachers check these regional forums. Many have found the dixiecachers.com site and your welcome there as well.
  10. There are several caches at Lula Lake in GA that have very limited access. GCXZ9T Please note that the Lula Lake Land Trust is only open to the public from 9-4:30 on the first and last Saturdays of each month, with occasional additional days for events or by special request.
  11. It wasn't a listed geocache and the topic has all ready been covered here: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=198971
  12. And can't understand why there are sooo many issues for the rest of us. Many cachers are uncomfortable with front yard hides, others aren't going to bother when they see the ALR's, the go to next cache crowd may search for it and then read the description then move along....as long as you are fine with low found it logs and people showing up anyway without making an appt then list it.
  13. It's called tact and social niceties. From your profile and your own admission it sounds like you need to take a different approach, find someone to act as a filter, or stop interacting on the cache pages. What you perceive as "help" is going to be unwelcome, more than likely taken as meddling, and not going to be appreciated. You have a new cacher that is reluctant to place caches due to your "help" that should be a huge red flag if the previous issues weren't enough. There's a common denominator in all these interactions. Better luck.
  14. Come on over to dixiecachers, there's a good group of folks down in the B'ham area. Come to an event and caching will follow.
  15. From the Geocache Information for User page, that's the one with the whole list of cache types found. I made the assumption based on the page that the three without * are not counted towards the total. That's Wherigo, megaevents, and benchmarks. However, when I add the numbers, only benchmarks are not counted towards the total. Not a major issue, along the lines of a spelling error and one that I think could be easily fixed with a couple of them extra *'s tossed into the code, if'n it's not too much trouble? Name Count Traditional Caches * 3498 Multi-caches * 100 Virtual Caches * 52 Letterbox Hybrids * 4 Event Caches * 98 Unknown (Mystery) Caches * 107 Webcam Caches * 6 Locationless (Reverse) Caches * 2 Cache In Trash Out Events * 3 Earthcaches * 38 Mega-Event Caches 1 Wherigo Caches 1 NGS Benchmarks 34 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *Total Caches Found 3910
  16. The info to make your own is in post #'s 56 and 95 on the 2nd page of this thread.
  17. Come on over to www.dixiecachers.com and I'm sure you'll get plenty of info.
  18. Thanks to Dave for getting it going and to GC for helping out too!
  19. I agree, the Tom Tom is just not the best choice. However, for some caches getting you near is all you need. Which ones? Typically, those rated 1-1.5. Check the map page associated with the cache, the topo view if available and see where it puts you. You can make notes about where it seems to be and go from there taking the printed page with you. Pay attention to size, any hints, and read over the past logs. A suggestion would be to go to a nearby event and then go on a cache run with some other folks. Hang in there, you'll get the hang of it.
  20. Look at the manual, pg 65/66. It's a pdf file. http://www.magellangps.com/assets/manuals/...rist_200_en.pdf
  21. I think you are confusing a utility pole, also known as a telephone pole that are typically found along easements with a privately owned, lamp supporting pole, with skirt found in most parking lots. Messing with utility poles can cause all sorts of issues. I may be the exception but, I specifically asked the store managers permission, showed him what was going under the skirt, explained that others would be looking for something in the general area, etc. for the one lamp skirt cache that I have. He thought it was an interesting idea and wanted to know if I could place more in the same lot.
  22. It's Dave's site but I think there is a lot of interest for it. Enough for a tier system of $12 for once a month, $24 for twice, $36 for three, etc? Maybe team up with Clyde and GSAK? I'm sure there are lots of options to look into and I'll make do without the site until he figures out what is best for him and hopefully for the site. Good work and good luck!
  23. Thankfully, we have no poisonous snakes, a few venomous ones though. Last year we saw a really nice sized rattler on a well used trail. Some bikers almost found it the hard way. Just yesterday, I found a small rattlesnake between the feet of the other cacher with me....I guess the little guy was still cold from the low temps earlier in the day. We also saw a watersnake near another cache earlier in the day.
  24. From his profile he found caches back in Feb. If he's like most teens he likely has another "something" to occupy his time. Shows he was last on site just a few weeks ago. And likely when he thinks about geocaching again he'll be back.
  25. Dave replies in this thread http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=189862
