  1. I think they have a valid gripe. Twenty five hundred finds since the one in question covers a ton of milestones. Focus on activity since adopting.
  2. You're right. I've seen caches that are exactly like what the OP stated...4" PVC w/ a drain grid on top. Just because they're out there doesn't mean they are within the guidelines.
  3. I thought the volunteer thing was really silly, but this blatant stuff is beyond: "we spotted this one early, but didn't have the desire or the means to access the cache. later, we met XXXXXXX and XXXXXX, and XXXXXX's's son had a kayak. in exchange for 4 Boulevard Wheats, his son paddled out the cache, and brought it a bit closer, so we could sign the log.
  4. We'd use 2.0 terrain/ 1.0 difficulty. There's no need to put it that high unless you are trying to add a level of difficulty to the reach which falls under terrain. We would see it very quickly.
  5. Dang! I thought we were getting free lunch meat
  6. If you're set on doing it, make the first 2 stages in SW PA traditionals. Put the N coords in one and W coords in the other. That way, you get activity on both. You probably won't get alot of activity on the Wooster puzzle, but put the fake coords in SW PA since the puzzle originates there. Like I said, you'll get few at the Wooster cache, but we may just do it. We were in SW PA last weekend and left some unfinished business. Check out the Snake Hill Good Bad and Ugly series (just south of you) for the traditional to puzzle setup.
  7. I actually did this when I was a kid. Somethings you just don't forget.
  8. This seems like the best idea to me. It may be akward for finders to end up in someone's yard who doesn't cache and has been sent there by a previous dweller of the location. they would need explicit permission to hide on private property they don't own. I know the rules regarding private proberty etc, and have no intentions in leaving them those places. But in a puplic area around the house i used to live. Actually, I was referring to utilizing already existing caches if possible and maybe supplementing with some of your own where necessary.

  10. So after 5 months, 300+ finds and one multi hide under our belts, are we officially non-newbies or do we need to experience the mud, bugs and folliage of spring and summer to graduate?
  11. Jacob, Looks like those who have visited like it. Nice! Like wiseye said, hide a couple more. I believe one of your finders said the area needs more caches. Also, if it's by a fishing hole, it won't have the traffic that a lamp post at Wallmart will get, but it will get alot more smiles (that's real smiles, not smileys).
  12. Dude, You got us excited! Can't wait to see your work.
  13. We've done that when traveling. Run a PQ of the area and look at the prelim. review. You can sort by favotite vote and manually download those to your GPSr. It usually makes for a pretty tough few days of caching so don't expect numbers. Also, if you do this around your home coords, you'll have a great time at first and then be left with a lifetime of LPCs
  14. Place a cache close to where you live now. Put the 9 or 10 travel bugs in it, each with a unique instruction to visit a cache you know is nearby each of your previous homes.
  15. Just don't log it twice. I hear that practice is reserved for my Buckeye bretheren.
  16. I'm not sure a nano in a forest preserve w/ soft coords is a good idea. Like one of he cachers stated "walked in circles for 10 minutes". It does look well received, but may put unnecessary strain on the preserve.
  17. Sign the log and let your original smiley stand.
  18. Hey Jacob! This sounds like you still haven't attempted to bring Geocaching up with your friends. Probably not? Sounds like you haven't asked yet. See the one directly above. Have you taken any of the advice offered to you on this forum? Don't get me wrong, it's nice to hear from you, but I would like to see you try some of the suggestions and then stop back and tell us how it went.
  19. Pretty easy difference. Terrain defines the necessary preparation (whether it's physical training, skill training or equipment) to make the grab. There should never be a need to consciously prepare for violence in this sport. Just don't place the cache.
  20. We brought this up the other week. Actually logged-out while writing a log last night. Really starting to get annoying.
  21. Well isn't this timely. We did some caching in Morgantown, WV to try some different terrain this past weekend. See our log on the final of this series. Snake Hill...The Ugly
  22. Thought the same thing. We took a little time looking at the maps, both GC and county auditor's, and found a nice little spot, nothing awe inspiring, just nice. Spent some time building a nice little multi around the spot and it has been fun for us and a few who have found it. Go for it!
  23. Hi Larry. We have enjoyed this thread and your thoughts. Our philosophy is in the very early stages of development. It wasn't until recently that we discovered the forumns. Now Beans is spending much time lurking and occasionally posting while Shark is working her way through a particularly tough semester in school (read as Beans is using the forum as a caching surrogate). It's funny how GC has become a pretty big part of our life in a very short period of time, but in a good way. We are having a blast and have an activity that we share with the kids. Seems like we have spent alot of time up to this point living vicariously through them (read as watching them participate in soccer, wrestling, theatre, band, volleyball, lacrosse etc.) instead of spending time with them which is what we do now with GC. We too are in the Cbus burbs and hope to run into you sometime. Thanks for sharing.
