  1. Maybe you could wait until the national anthem is done playing before you start working the refs.
  2. We are not opposed to the idea of going to the center of the triad, but we would rather do it as a side trip. Rattlesnake on the 18th it is.
  3. We found it pretty early when it was functioning normally (no hard tugging or safety glasses required). NWCREW had wandered off, so we returned later in the day for his 500th.
  4. Now, now. He was just trying to fix a malfunctioning cache so he could sign the log. He could have just waved at and called it good it just like more than few other people did. If we can work out all the kinks in time, we'll be using our paintball logger at the next CM. It works pretty well, but it still has a tendency to log the occasional cache more than once. We're still hoping to implement aerosol mode for those annoying unsolved puzzles.
  5. The Capri was decent. It was about as good as it gets for cheap motels. The room was clean and quiet. The bathrooms are a little teeny (low shower nozzle). The owners are very friendly and they were quite curious about geocaching. Since tastes vary, we don't have much to say about which caches to skip. We do recommend that you visit the aviary in the SW corner of Pioneer Park during your visit.
  6. Well in that case, we are not going. Actually, we can't go because we are anchored down all weekend. I guess it's a good thing we've done those caches already. We did save the one hidden on the nature trail to be used for traffic jam relief at some unspecified time in the future. We're going to miss you luluonthego. Travel safe.
  7. Our track is almost exactly 9 miles long, although we did not remove any of the scribbles where we stopped. The weather was fantastic and we really enjoyed doing this hike with a wonderful group of people. We'll have to train for the next one so that it will be easier to keep up with Becka.
  8. The Capri is $48.00 plus tax. The Camas Prairie Handicap Shoot is the same weekend as the WWCM, so rooms are going fast.
  9. The 6th of March is out for us, otherwise we would be up for a CITO/AHOTM. Both the 13th and 21st of February are good, although we prefer the day with the best weather.
  10. The cache is no longer where we hid it. We hid it carefully and the area is not well known. It is very unlikely that someone found it by chance, although anything is possible. The tipi was at least two feet tall and much stouter than we expected. We dismantled and scattered it. This makes for an interesting case study on the how quickly a few seekers can impact a small area. There is no permanent damage, but the tale of desperation is writ large.
  11. OK, we'll accept that you felt you needed to leave a comment on the cache page for no particular reason. Traveling caches are sort of like having a never-ending FTF hunt: you have to get there first. Isn't it the possibility of failure that makes the FTF hunt exciting for the FTF hounds? Or are they actually playing a zero-sum game and the excitement comes from knowing that if they "win" then everyone else loses? Either way, why would anyone expect to be given some kind of assurance that a cache is still there. Don't we all take that risk every single time we look for a cache? Someone has now logged that they failed to find the cache and possibly invented the tipi throwdown. No one else has logged a find yet so the possibility remains that the cache is actually still there. Inserting commas into the correct locations will make the hint very explicit. If no one logs the cache as found tonight, we'll try to go check on it tomorrow and remove the tipi.
  12. GC9253. You left a note on the cache page that we took as a reprimand, yet the cache is still sitting where we hid it over two week ago. So whatever your point is, is seems kind of moot (no pun intended). You had better get moving, a lot more people know of its whereabouts now.
  13. It does not seem to be possible to delete a route any longer. The pop-up dialog asking for confirmation appears, but the route does not get deleted.
  14. Well in that case, I should point out that the dirt floors looked freshly swept and all the magazines in the outhouse were less than three months old. Seriously though, I forgot to mention that the rooms are equipped with a microwave and small fridge.
  15. We stayed at the Chehalis Inn. Locally owned. Clean, but small rooms. Good Shower. Queen beds (really more like full). Bordering on too soft, but OK mattresses. Nice staff. Fast free Internet. Free Waffles. Coffee 24x7. Next to I-5, but noise was not an issue. The Holiday Inn Express was tempting, but we try to avoid off gassing (new construction smell) and we don't mind staying in dumpy motels as long as they are clean. Going by the published prices, the Holiday Inn was the better deal until we used Priceline and got our room for less than half price. Having said all that, the place is pretty dumpy and you may not have the same tolerance level that we do.
  16. Perhaps you could enlighten us by providing an example of one of these universal rules. We'll wait... The guidelines do provide some specific examples of things that do not belong in a caches, so I suppose the cache content guidelines could be considered a universal rule, but since everyone must use their own judgment and common sense to interpret the guidelines, the universal quickly becomes the particular. The universal really falls down when both of your examples are explicitly mentioned in the guidelines as being inappropriate, yet you admit that "some of [you]" have decided KA-BAR knives are A-OK. Even if we ignore the imaginary universal rules, you did manage to squeeze straw men, non-sequiturs, situational ethics, circular logic, and a whiff of ad hominem into one short paragraph. That's some pretty fine work for a Monday morning. I usually have to drink an entire pot of coffee before I can even hope to make a self-defeating argument with such elegance. Well done, sir, well done.
  17. Universally offensive? Now that I have to see. Trading something that belongs in a cache for something that does not belong in a cache is not a fair trade. Some may claim that it is trading up, but they are hopelessly confused. Ignore or toss are the correct choices. But ignore is a slippery slope, fraught with moral peril. Why all the absolutism about trading anyway? Swag degradation over time is a well-documented, but poorly understood phenomenon. Clearly, many swag traders are playing a zero-sum game.
  18. The consensus seems to be this: if we want to remove an offensive or otherwise unsuitable object from a cache, then we need to trade for it. So what is a fair trade for offensive items? After all, the only thing truly equal in value to an offensive item is different, but equally offensive item. It seems like it would be very tricky to manage such a trade properly. Done poorly, it might even offend the wrong people. What about trading up? I guess we would need to replace the offending item with a really offensive item.
  19. We've heard there are other victims. Some are even alleged to be in hastily dug shallow graves.

    Holiday caching

We found one last June. It would have been fun to do during the proper season, but we were not going to be there at Christmas. Coeur d'Alene Christmas Cache 6
  21. We have it on our calendar, so we'll be there unless it snows. Or something.
  22. with:public For example, with:public geocaching See advanced search terms for more.
  23. We've never been there and we haven't looked at a map yet, so this may not matter, but the DNR has a couple of closures listed due to some timber harvests. The logging might also indicate a better chance of the gate being open. DNR Page (with map)
  24. You have made an valiant attempt to reason from the facts that you have, but sometimes you just have accept the fact that you do not have all the facts.
  25. It would be helpful if Groundspeak were to create a forum section for paranoid conspiracy theories. All the nontroversies could be gathered into one convenient location.
