  1. I had a look, but I couldn't find this anywhere... But I've noticed that although we've been getting emails from the site saying there has been activity with a TB, but when we go to the website, although the TB is listed as being in the new location, there isn't a new log. I've tried forcing an update, but I don't think that's it because I get a new location. Is this just me or are other people seeing this? Thanks, Bambi (of Bambi&Thumper). Edit to add: This is not a complaint, just curious and if it's a bug thought I'd let people know...
  2. We don't have kids, but although we very rarely actually do a trade, we find we are disappointed if there is nothing in a cache. I think this is beacause we like to see what people leave, even if we never actually want any of it. On the other hand, we also take pleasure in buying "tat" to leave in caches that look a little empty. I mean, is it too much to ask that when you've had the fun of searching for and finding a cache in an interesting place, that we as adults with an income, leave a toy car bought as part of a pack of 30 in a supermarket for £5? If more of the resonably well off cachers about did this, depletion wouldn't be much of a problem. Just my 2p... Bambi. PS It's not just toy cars that we leave, we also try to ensure that we leave stuff for little girls from time to time
  3. Yes, this one is great, but if you choose to do it don't be tempted to walk to the cache at Lodore Falls (which is "only 0.2 miles away"), unless you are wearing decent walking kit - Short easy stroll it aint! Bambi.
  4. We got ours from www.superstickers.com which was really good because you just upload your image and add text and click go... Stamp arrived some three weeks later. Bambi.
  5. Is there any news on when this will happen? I have some 60 odd coins activated and I'm dreading the state of my inbox when the cache event season starts Bambi.
  6. No probs was just checking that it hadn't been side-lined - If it had, I'd have released my Screw!! Thanks, B.
  7. On the subject of screws, I was just wondering what was happening with your nuts as I have a screw I want to release with the mission to find it's nut, when I get one... Bambi.
  8. OMG....... Your Carpet's filthy! (JOKE!) Seriously, what a cool pile of coins - How exciting! Bambi.
  9. Of course it wasn't, but although it's not something that floats my boat especially, a lot of people get a kick out of hunting for new cache types, and it encourages people to try different things. For example, simply because it was an icon that we didn't have, we decided to try to get a locationless cache for our 50th cache. As it happens, we found that it wasn't really our thing, so we only did the one. Somebody else may have got a real buzz out of it and now be haveing a great time with the new WM.com site. As I understand it, this would be in line with "what it is supposed to be" as it would be a tangible cache with a real logbook (which is why virtuals and webcams have been removed to WM.com). Yes, but this is looking at the bigger picture and encouraging cross-fertilisation of ideas between two diffferent, but complimentary disciplines. By encouraging Cachers to get involved with Book Crossing and Book Crossers to get involved with Caching, both activities could benefit. In addition, it doesn't address my central issue that people might have a problem with me "cluttering up their cache by me dumping a book in it". Of course I could do that, but the idea is that Book Crossing Books can travel outside caches too and this is catered for in the Book Crossing site, so it seems a little pointless to track these books twice. However, the logs for the "Book Caches" could have an area where you can put the Book Crossing number (BCID) which could then be included as a link by the site at the bottom of the log (in a similar way to the traveler tags site which puts a link to the cache page where a tag has been dropped off). Then, there could be an area on the cache page that lists the books currently in the cache, with links to the Book Crossing site. These caches would then appear on the Book Crossing site as Book Crossing Zones, which would inspire local Book Crossers to find out about caching and maybe they'd take up the hobby too. Bambi.
  10. Well said Mattwaggie - We were considering making a personal coin with tracking, but if this is not an error, I think this will make up our minds... Bambi.
  11. I did a search, but couldn't find anything so here goes... I, and some of my friends are also Book Crossers and it's quite common for Book Crossers to release travelling books into caches. The thing that bothers me is cache owners might be a little cheesed off if I drop off a book in their cache, especially if it doesn't move very quickly. For those not in the know, Book Crossing is a scheme where you attach numbers to books and release them to travel, a little bit like travel bugs. The problem as I see it is that books aren't small, and some people could object... I know there are a few caches specifically for books and I thought it'd be really cool if we could start a new category of "Book Crossing Caches" like we have "Letterbox Hybrid Caches". As I see it, these caches would have to be big enough to house a few books, waterproof and probably fairly easy to access because books can be quite heavy. The thing is, by encouraging cachers to get involved in Book Crossing, we would also be able to encourage Book Crossers to come and join in by indroducing them to GC.com and the new site WM.com. Also, since virtuals, webcams Earth caches and locationless caches have been consigned to history, I thought it might be nice to introduce another new cache category. What do people think? Bambi.
  12. When you go to a page listing TBs or coins, the name of the location is sort of out of alignment with the rest of the text making it hard to see which TB has travelled which distance. I've put together an image (below) with the line of the Name/Last Log Date/Owner/Distance Tavelled all maked with a blue line and the "Location" which sits out of line circled in red. I think this misalignement makes it hard to work out which bug has travelled where when you are looking at the middle of a page. Would it be possible to fix this in the next update please? Thanks, Bambi.
  13. The problem is that I'd say less then 10% (probably less than 5%) read these forums, so this isn't widely known. Now, suppose a cache was archived in error, would it be possible to unarchive it? I assume it could be, at E&L's discretion. Unfortunately, unless WM.com falls flat on it's face, the fact is Virtuals/Web cam caches and Earth caches are a dying breed so any efforts to prolong their existance are doing only that - prolonging existence. So I guess the only way to do this is to ensure that local cachers know what is going on - Time for lots of discussion at the summer event! Bambi.
  14. Ooops! Sorry, didn't realise it was working again! But this raises another point - looks like people paid months ago but the coin is still weeks away. I understand sometimes there is a reason for delay, but what do people feel is a reasonable amount of time between paying and the coins arriving? I'd be getting worried by now if I'd paid for this one... Bambi.
  15. I remember something about this coin and was going to trade for it, but I haven't seen anything about it for ages. I thought people had pre-payed... Bambi.
  16. I agree - they took the easy route. Of course it would not be easy to say which groups have the "right" to make coins representing a particular state, but at least if they were made by groups, that were recognised in some way by GC.com, there would be less chance of offence. Well, this is all true of course, but I feel that if it were only appropriate organisations and there were fewer "icon" coins, then there would be less rush to make each coin and move on to the next one. Thus each would be worth more and (hopefully) people would make more. I might be wrong, but I thought most of the early trackables had large runs and intrest was expressed in advance... I might be wrong here too, but the exchange rate is approx 2c/1p... I started with 2p (or 4c) so shouldn't that be 0.06? Bambi.
  17. Last year, when we found Medieval Haunts (GCMDR2), we found that someone (presumably a Jehova's Witness?) had written out large passages of the Bible in the log book - like pages and pages. They were so keen that they'd even added suplementary pages... It was really odd. Bambi.
  18. I think people should be very careful about making coins that "represent" others. Recently there has been a lot of discusion amongst the UK folks about a certain "English" coin which we feel is unpleasant and doesn't relect us at all. It is particularly offensive, since the UK coin group were in the process of designing an English coin when it came out. Personally, I think GC.com should have restricted state and country coins to organisations, and there should have been one icon per state/country (making it difficult, but possible to collect them all). However, since cash is involved they went for the capitalist option and have enabled anyone and everyone to make coins representing whoever, thus devaluing the achievement of finding the icons while simultaneously ensuring that very few coins actually travel by cache express. Missed opportunity I think. Just my 2 pennoth... Bambi.
  19. Not sure I really approve of travel bug hotels, for a number of reasons... 1) They are usually very easy to get to and so are often more prone to getting muggled than many other caches... 2) Their very nature means that they tend to hold a lot of TBs, so when 1) happens, more TBs go missing... 3) Most TB hotels have an "only take 1 TB" or "only trade the same number of TBs" policy, so the least atractive/picturesque TBs sometimes get stuck, making the "Hotel" more like a "Prison" (though I appreciate that this isn't the case with what you are suggesting here Alistair...). Just my opinion... Bambi.
  20. Also, the general feeling appears to be that coins travel better in Europe than Stateside, so sending them abroad is an option too. I know a number of people that are happy to take coins as travellers to release in caches, us included... If you want to go this way, drop me a line through my profile... Bambi.
  21. Thanks KC, I know we were one of the last to receive our coins, but they arrived in the end and they were well worth the wait. Thanks, Bambi.
  22. I would take two of the Bikedog coins if they are sold at $10 each, would think twice about getting more than one if they cost more than that... Personally, I think you should encourage people who would be prepared to buy 2 at $15 each to buy 3 at $10 each (!) and maybe release the spare, that way Bikedog can keep caching, but that's personal opinion. Also, it might be quite nice to raffle one of the novel metal coins, since that gives the rest of us a chance to donate some more cache to the fund. At $1 a ticket it'd allow us all to have a stab at it and put in what we can afford and would keep everyone involved (I'm sure most people can't afford the prices these things go for, and it would be nice to keep everyone involved). I think it was done with one of the EU coins very effectively... Could be done after the auctions so that people who failed to buy it that way can try to win it. Bambi.
  23. What !!!! I sat there for hours solving yours :) Ok I cheated as well. I tend to use Google to solve caches I want to do but I am not a big lover of puzzle caches, although I was/am working a website puzzle cache, but cant decide how hard to make it Even though I know its going near to where aRRKS live We didn't - Spent every spare second on the puzzles one holiday (nearly ended in the divorce courts though ). Bambi.
  24. I was involved with the Delaware Coin Release project (check out the Delaware Geocaching Profile) and they didn't like the idea of drilling coins either. So, they sent us a coin with a piece of paper as info, in a zippy bag. Unfortunately, by the time it arrived with us, the bag had a hole and the print out was smudged and dog-eared... So we retyped the info and laminated it and glued the coin pocket to the info and placed the whole lot in a convenient little plastic pocket we found in our Students' Union for 40p and released him at the w/e... Sorry to hear about the one in the States, but that does support my thoughts that they are more likely to disappear over there. We've released a similar number (drilled and tagged) plus a few for other people and so far they are all still travelling (touch wood...). However, the longest any of these have been out is about 4 months, so we'll see... Bambi.
