  1. We are missing our 250th cache coin too, which we left in Team Maddies tent and never saw again B.
  2. We released a coin to celebrate our 250th cache at the Shropshire event. Sadly, it's gone AWOL. This is not a moan, merely a blatant highjacking of this thread, so if anyone should have come across it or know where it's hiding, we'd be very grateful if you could log it... <Sad and sorry lost coin that went missing at it's first event/cache> Bambi.
  3. Not as far as we know, but if you find out, please let us know! B.
  4. Go for it! I should imagine you'll get plenty of locals attending and an event which is a little more structured is likely to attract quite a few cachers from a bit further afield especially if they are interested in puzzles. I would say, try make it very clear that it's aimed at everyone and not just the people who are into the really hard puzzles. Emphasise the "how to get started" and the fun puzzles and try to make it a themed meet rather than a puzzle school. Sadly, unless we are in the area we probably won't be there as it's a little far, but it sounds good... B.
  5. People (like us) might be interested, but there are so many variables like dates, locations, travelling and other commitments. It also depends on how difficult the puzzles are going to be; some people might not want to feel stupid so want to see who else is going so that they aren't the "thicket" in the room. May I suggest that you try to flesh out the details a little and give everyone a better idea of what you have in mind? If you just want to do an event near lots of puzzle caches (as someone else said here once), do the event and people will come. Don't forget though, you could do some sort of puzzle activity as part of the event (like the Harrogate "Hunt and Munch"). For example, you could put the event in a club house somewhere and make people follow a firetack trail to get there (hmmm, would be a good Halloween event that...). B.
  6. I like this idea. In fact, I've always said that I'd like to see Virtual, Webcam and Earth Caches return to GC.com but without removing them from WM.com. WM is a much more free-flowing game than GC, and some "caches" will be fine in one place and not in the other and some will fit in both (I suppose I should also say some will fit in neither ). Some people like the free-flowing game, others prefer the more structured game, but this way you get to please more people and the sites and games really are independent. Bambi.
  7. That's interesting. Back in June/July we found a few caterpillars and thought they were really cute and took photos of them. Failed dismally to find out what they were, so any idea what this one is Pieman? Or this one? No pressure now... B.
  8. My guess is that, like every thing, it's to do with funding. I don't know, but I suspect that the GSA sponsor Earth Caches. I'm guessing that since ECs have been moved the number of visits has dropped significantly and the GSA have threatened to withdraw their support... Now, Jeremy and TPTB justified the creation of that other site by saying that Virtual and Locationless Caches were "broken". This return of Earth Caches suggests that ECs aren't broken and my understanding is that this is because they have independent reviewers who assess the "quality" of the caches. So, if I'm right with the reason for the return of ECs, this suggests that there could be a future for Virts if a few interested parties (e.g. historical society, arts society, science society) could get together and agree to assess the educational quality of caches and offer a bit of sponsorship... But I'm guessing it'll never happen. B.
  9. In fact, if you do this you will actually be doing them a favour. When we bought our new GPS, we couldn't see the point of paying extra for an EU basemap which we were never going to use. Although the US basemap isn't great, it is better than nothing, so at least they'll have that if they ever visit you! The other thing you may want to think about is that if you were seriously considering spending $250 on a pressie for them, then the GPSMap 60CSx is a much better model. With a 1GB micro SD card you can put Metroguide maps on for most of Western Europe. The bonus is, if they don't use it, you can always "borrow" it from them! If you want to know more about the differences between the Legend and the 60CSx, drop us a line as we have both... B.
  10. As an impartial person from the UK I think all the suggestions of ways to include the other two states really spoil what was a really nice, clean design. Personally, I don't see what's wrong with saying this is about these four time-zones. I mean, nothing on the coin (unless I missed it) said anything about it representing the whole of the USA and if people are being offended because their time-zone isn't included, what about those of us on the other side of "the pond"? We cache too you know! Maybe this should be the first of several mini-series of coins about time zones... Seriously, I'd go with it as it is and keep the lovely design you have. B.
  11. I saw a slithery thing when we were out caching in Northumberland. It just crossed my path, but I was so suprised and keen to share it with Thumper (who was miles ahead) that I forgot to look at it properly and decide what it was. People always say they are far more scared of you than you are of them. Having encountered a couple slithery things (slow-worms are not snakes, but they are often killed in error), I'd say I was always so suprised and they were in such a hurry that I've never got a really good look, so they really are no problem. The only exceptions are if you step on it; stick your hand into a hole and grab it rather than a cache, or if you poke it with a big stick! B.
  12. Before you buy a new GPS and mapping software, I suggest you check out these threads which discuss GPS receivers and mapping: New Gps - Lots Of Qs!, (Again - Sorry!) Garmin Software, Best place to get? Micro SD for 60csx Want To Buy Mapsource Topo Great Britain 60csx Atlantic Basemap B.
  13. That's what happened to us which is why you got the DW question! B.
  14. It's OK, you've won!!! Your turn to set a Question... B. EDIT - I'm a long way from pefect too, but I DID check it elsewhere before I posted...
  15. Yep! Over to you! Not according to the West Wing last week... It's English not Scots... B.
  16. Thanks! A quick one this time... How many English words begin with the letters DW and what are they? On your marks, set... GO!
  17. Ruben, Simeon, Levi, Napthali, Isacah, Asher, Dan, Zebulan, Gad, Benjamin, Judah & Joseph. Not too sure on the spellins though... B. PS It was from memory too...
  18. Sorry mate, something up with your links... I get a $25 bill for the standard set 2 and something isn't quite right with the international shipping either Ordered my Set 1 coins though B. EDIT: Set 2 Std link come up with Set 1 LE... Help!!
  19. Set up a bookmark list called "Nebias' Outstanding DNFs" and depending on whether you want others to see it or not you can make it public or keep it private. B.
  20. Oooo ooo Me! Me! Pick Me!!! I love stuff to wear round my wrist!!!! B.
  21. Since we seem to have something of a concensus, I'm gonna upset the apple-cart and say New Cache Some people like to keep track of statistics and stuff and changing a cache that was a multi to a trad, or changing difficulty, messes about the stats. Some people like to look at their average terrain/difficulty scores too and this would screw them up. Like the others say, it's your choice, but I'd say change the route a little and move things around a bit (better for the environment this way) and then list it as a new cache. It's up to you though, it's your cache... B.
  22. Likewise... And probably more wobbly bits than I should have... B.
  23. Can I sugest that you either lose the yellow background for the first icon or add one for the second so that they are the same? If you are going to lose the yellow, then consider making the background transparent since when white backgrounds look odd when you see the coin in a cache listed as found (because these have a very slightly grey background). And poinettias on both sides - you made the right choice! We'd like two sets of each set in gold please! B.
  24. you might need it for actually GETTING the PQs... LOL! Yes, but we can download them at work unising the LAN, so that's EASY! B.
