  1. If ur going for a smallish container, how about something memorable, like a fake snake, frog or rock? Anything different or funny would be appreciated.... Lots of stuff you can buy online or make your own.
  2. I second the fave point, nice log and PHOTOS in the online log....please! No food...unless you can email me and meet me for a cache hunt, bring the food then!
  3. I've only seen a few nice geo cards. Business cards I find annoying... But def need to sign the LOG...
  4. Wow... I appreciate all the great feedback. The carving of the stamp and seeing some of the really artistic ones is what interests me, as well as some of the ones with fun clues and trails to follow. Lone R, someone mentioned you on the letterboxing site and I tried to look you up... Now I realise I've seen your trailname on Geocaching. I'm getting excited about it... I have a plan to use photos I took of scenes at the park I like, and try to draw those or parts of them as my stamps. No print outs for me, just original work. I like the idea of leaving a stamped card, maybe watercolored? As a FTF/collector's prize, for both the Geocachers and letterboxers.... Thanks.
  5. Congrats Oldrocknmetal.... 3000 WOO HOO! I hit my milestone last week... 200! LOL!!!!! Going to first CITO event in am....ugh....7 am....zzzzzzzzzzz.........
  6. Some people who have allergies........ are also allergic to Virginia Creeper....unfortunately. I've been in lots of PI lately and no rash, and I've had it as a kid.... just waiting to get unlucky again.
  7. ooh, there's some really cool cache containers you can buy for under $20.... the cool containers in urban areas generate a lot more interest than the ever boring (sorry) lamp post cache.... I found a cool one recently that was a tube...and you had to use the cap of the tube which had a hidden magnet in it, to remove the cache container.... took us a while to figure out where the cache actually was, and how to remove it.... FUN!!!! And it was in a VERY urban parking lot. LOL.
  8. Hello! Glad you're liking using your android. That's a ton of finds for three weekends. I'm really picky on what caches I look for, so only 207 in a year...LOL. I have an HTC sensation, but i've only used it a few times for caching and once it was off by 300 feet.... the other time, I could barely read the screen from the glare of the sun... so I use my Oregon 400 and like that better, but the phone has it's merits...especially not having to do a pocket query.... I use the Groundspeak app, btw...
  9. Generally, I go once a week, for about 3 hours. Occasionally, I'll run out to place a coin, do maintenance on my caches, or grab a FTF, and that might add another hour per week, but that's only a few times a month. It was more at first when I was doing a lot of reading online on how to do it, etc.
  10. So far, my 10 caches are all open to everyone...but... if I create a complex one that takes me a lot of time (ie my letterbox hybrid I'm working on), it's going to be PMO, because I've already had to replace muggled caches about 4 times this year... I think with adding caching onto cell phones, the complexity... PMO caches are a necessity.
  11. OK, got the food loaded into the car for my trip...CITO event early tomorrow.... Trying to load pocket query and ......nothing....not running.....been 20 minutes now, come ON!!!!! It's never taken more than 5 minutes to load before????
  12. I have one that's been pretty water logged for the last 6 months and has only had 2 or 3 finds since then. If I ever have one that goes 6 months without ANY attempts at all, I might disable it, unless it was in a very rural area. Just because I do maintenance on them more often than that.... When I do maintenance, or at least check them, I write a note in the log, to say good to go, come find it!!!! The rest of my 9 caches have all been found at least within the last 2 months.
  13. Just started letterboxing, really like making the stamps...lol. So another addiction for me. I would like to make some hybrid caches, and wonder if anyone here has made any, and any suggestions? I was thinking a two compartment box, completely separate the caching and letterboxing stuff, and attach the stamp to it's own pad, so no one tries to trade for it... Or maybe have the letterbox in a small locked box? In my area, very wet, lotsa bugs.... I do not like the plastic bag/duct tape letterboxes at all... the ants bite right through them and nest in there. Gross....
  14. You're dedicated, yesterday was a horrible soggy day! LOL! Well, at least you made good use of it!
  15. I have left travel bug dog tags as FTF prize. Worth $5. If I had a really, really hard cache that I thought would merit something better, I might leave $10. I've also left home made cache containers with logs. One of my fellow cachers left an invitation to go out to dinner with him as a FTF prize. LOL! He's a hoot, I'd love to win that prize.
  16. My son stepped on a Dusky Pygmy Rattlesnake at Upper Tampa Bay Park, near Tampa, Florida, a few months ago when we were about to do maintenance on my geocache called Perseverance. Luckily I saw the snake as his foot was on it, and just said, "Walk!" and he kept walking and the snake slithered away. If I'd screamed, he would've jumped and scared the snake.
  17. Weather finally cooling off... Made my 200 finds in a year goal. Woo hoo! The new caches in Pinellas County by Cachemedics proving to be fun and interesting. Went to Pinellas Geo Event at Philippe Park and won some great prizes... fun fun.
  18. Just discovered the new "challenge cache" category today..... Will have to try the Howard Park Challenges, look pretty easy, a CITO and take a picture challenge, I'm IN! CITO in Indian Rocks Beach, Oct 15, 7am... for anyone interested... I'm planning on going this time~
  19. Got a solo FTF yesterday on Honeymoon Island. Then did a mini power run with my mom today and found 11 caches. (one I already found), followed by lunch at 5th Element Indian Cuisine. Perfecto~ Ending that summer caching slump. Yay~
  20. Yes, when is the hurricane party? LOL. I'll serve the Hurricanes. Darn, I missed your event, just couldn't make it that day... and a special souvenier to boot. Oh well, next year. I should've gotten credit for "finding" a cache that day, since I was the one who got Tinyants to replace "Psycho Squirrel Trail" so people could look for it during the event. It got a bunch of finds that day... oh well! Finally did my first and only day of caching for August. Brought a friend who just started geocaching and found four caches, all different types... nano, (one I looked for 4 times) ammo can, magnetic, and drive-by lamp post. (she thought that was funny). September I need to find a few more to make my little goal of 200 finds since Oct when I started.
  21. ah Facebook, that must be where I saw it. thanks.
  22. Oh, I saw that later on by doing just a regular zipcode search. It wasn't published with the newsletter yet. Would love to be able to stop and meet Yuzawa Kat and wish her well, but won't be able to. Does anyone have any info about the Pinellas Geo Event (I think it's number 4) in Philippe Park on Sept 25? I know I saw some info on that somewhere before, but can't find it now...
