  1. Yeeesh. I think GSAK is great. I know it is primarily used for its great maps. At this time, I don't feel I need it, as I have limited time to cache. I don't even need the badges, which I saw linked to someones profile as a GSAK add on. It was just something I thought was fun. Some people think 1000 cache powertrails or pathtags and geocoins are fun. To each their own. I got my answers....thanks. Well, I'm off to go get my blood drawn.... Fun fun...back to real life.
  2. Yes, I understand that, I got the bronze Earthcache badge today. But there are all sorts of other badges, such as for getting so many microcaches, or owning so many caches, etc. Just looked like something to work towards and "earn".
  3. Thanks! I tried to download them, but all I got was text. I probably did it wrong, but thought maybe I had to have GSAK first.
  4. So today I just figured out I could get a free badge and became "Bronze Earthcache Master". But I see some other people have GSAK and have a bunch of cool badges. I don't want to pay $30 for the badges and for now, I don't really want GSAK. Are there any free badges I can get? I am already a premium member...don't want to invest more $ at this time.
  5. Ok..awake at 0449 so am online... Husband and I are in savannah right now. Went to Going Coastal event. Not sure if it went Mega or not. I was guessing 400 people. It was cold at night..so we didn't stay for the "Moondust" night event. We did get a bunch of different icons though. Letterbox, earthcache, regular, virtual and challenge. As well as two regular letterboxes. We went to a CITO at 345 pm that was supposed tot start at 330pm....it was over already. I guess that was a "trash mob"? Our funny highlights were on a two mile walk in the woods on a very root-lined trail, a unicyclist was riding along.... And we saw a big beetle....pushing an animal poop along the trail. Hilarious.....
  6. There are no caches in Costa Maya. However we did find 4 caches in Cozumel. My favorite was GCTXME, Cruise & Cache in Cozumel. We also found an interesting multi, which is a virtual multi, Called Land, Sea and Air. Two other traditionals: "a little taste of Italy" GCQF2X, which is in a YUMMY Italian restaurant, in the garden area. And A token for Ixchel GCTDNA, the gate was closed, but they allow a smilie if you take a picture of the gate with your gps.
  7. Smart phones have apps for letterboxing, so you can go paperless, or almost paperless. The free app for my droid is called "box radar" and there are others for other phones. The app gives you a fairly helpful (down to a mile or so) map, and all the clues.
  8. Great! Hoping to have a cache put in there....very soon.......and some letterboxes if anyone's interested.....
  9. I had to take a cache once because a muggle came over while I was replacing the log at my car, and placed his lawn chair 5 feet from the cache and was reading a book.....lol I didn't have all day, so emailed the owner and returned the next day.
  10. Around here they seem to go missing. People actually dump them out and take the can.... I've seen several caches say: was an ammo can, muggled and now replaced with plastic container....
  11. That's really cool! I like the postage stamps.... And I like your initials in your carve. I put mine in, too, but smaller.
  12. Well...I've been working on two letterbox hybrids for two different parks.... One will be part of a series of 4 letterboxes. The hybrid is in a large lock n lock with two smaller containers inside, one for geocache, one for letterbox.... Labelled and with brief explanations. The other hybrid will not be part of a series. I already have three geoaches in that park, spread out over a mile or so, so enough work already. Plus that park does controlled burns...hoping I picked a good spot...under a burnt up stump, that won't get burned again too soon... Its a medium lock n lock, and the logbook and stamp will be tied or chained together and in a ziplock. The logbook will be used for both stamping and caching, to save space... I will label the stamp do not remove, part of letterbox... And so...let's see how it goes! Hopefully all my labelling will help, and a clear description at top of cache page.... With links to Atlasquest, will help preserve the stamp, as well as bring more people to learn about letterboxing. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!
  13. I try two emails after about three months of no moving... Extremely nice emails and I don't accuse anyone of having my TBs. I just say, I'm trying to track down my TB and wondering if you mightve picked it up? I repeat it a few weeks later in case they didn't read the first email, or just forgot. I get tons of emails and that's usually what happens to me... Then I drink two margaritas (Cabo Wabo Tequila) and eat a nice med/rare steak...... FloridaFour~ who's currently feeling guilty because I think I lost a geocoin I picked up a few weeks ago..... (Don't worry, have already emailed owner)
  14. I was saddened that two of my three lock n locks were wet yesterday. One...I have no idea why, maybe just condensation. The other one I had used wire on the tabs to attach natural camo. One of the wire were trapped under a tab...cache very wet... On all three though, the tabs are already wearing out and its only been 7 months. I would use ammo cans, but we have ammo can thieves in our area and they are way too expensive. Silica gel would be wet by humidity alone here in florida in one day.....
  15. Wow, I had no idea about a backdoor.... My kids are not PMs and lots of caches I go to are PMO. For me, the purpose of PMO is to prevent my hand carved letterbox hybrid stamp from being stolen by people who just use their phones to steal things...I know everyone has their own reasons, and differs from cache to cache. All mmy other are not PMO, and I have to replace muggled ones several times a year. But this one will take me too much effort to replace. Thanks for all the replies!!!!!
  16. Can I change my caches from regular to PMO or the other way around? I am planning a cache that I want to be PMO, but I do have a friend who's not a PM that would like to hunt for it.
  17. I was rounding off when I said 500 feet... I emailed the reviewer, my placement is approved and she will hold my spot for a while.
  18. Which O.C.B? I typed that in to look for it and came up with lots! LOL! I will try to attend.
  19. Mostly for me, it's to get out and walk the parks, yet give myself a little extra incentive. I enjoy the park caches much more than the city caches. I enjoy the caches that take me to interesting spots I wouldn't have found otherwise. I do enjoy the creative caches in the cities, as long as they are not at muggle-central. I appreciate when the hider takes the time to do something a little different, yet keep it a nice quality cache in an appropriate location. OH! And I love the events, love meeting other cachers and sharing stories.
  20. I've started a cache page for a letterbox hybrid I am working on. I left it disabled for now. Will it still "hold a place" for me, as in the 500 feet rule? The park it is in has little room for caches and finally just had a cache archived opening up some area.... hoping to have mine ready this week...
  21. Will see if I can place one in or near Shangri-la resort in Cebu this summer, my husband knows the manager. Possibly a letterbox hybrid, accessable on Atlasquest as well, if I can rig it up so the stamp wont get stolen/traded. We may be able to place some in other places, but need to find some willing minders... Really hope to find some good geocaches out there. Wow, if I put a LB hybrid out, it will the the first of its kind in the Phil. Now I HAVE to try!
