  1. I use the comment field not to leave a detailed message but as a reminder of what happened at that cache. If you do alot of caches in a day, or you only update your logs every week or so, the notes can be very helpful to job your memory. I was actually trying to type in partial coordinates, for a mystery cache I was doing.
  2. "Added ability to log a comment with geocaching Field Notes" Is it just me or is there no decimal point in the scroll wheel when I try to type in the new comment part of a geocache found.
  3. I took Smudge to the vet for something unrelated and the doc asked me where Smudge and I usually go hiking. It turns out there is a lyme disease vaccination for dogs. Guess who got shot today. Now I just have to do something for me, I have already had 4 or 5 tick bites this year.
  4. If you can figure out how you did that I'll add it to the Issues List! I just created a new profile, added the same items to the Shortcuts you did, set it to page loop but I don't see two compass items. It looks like this is only when routing is active (where there is "Stop Navigation") or even only when you use "demo" mode for routing (this is what I had to do now to reproduce it - as I am in house with no GPS signal). If I stop navigation, "Stop Navigation" and one "Compass" disappear and as soon as I start new routing, I get them back ("Compass" shown twice). I am getting the double compass as well, I switched back and forth between page looping and not, it looks like the "Detour" function is not available when I am in page loop, and it is when I use the wheel for shortcuts. It only happens when I am autorouting.
  5. I also get a duplicate entry of "Mark Waypoint", when I use auto routing. I am using Pageloop, and I have the compass page in the loop so it doesnt show up in the list. When I removed the compass page from the loop, it wound up being the duplicate entry. The top entry works, the lower entry does nothing. I have Metroguide Canada loaded on mine. I will be returning the unit next week, too many things need to be improved before it compares to my 60Cx.
  6. I like the idea. As far as loads on servers I don't know anything about it, I can leave that to techies to figure out. I travel from Ontario to Quebec routinely and have to spend alot of time setting up PQ's depending which way I go. It would make it easier if i could get it all in 1 PQ for Ontario and 1 for Quebec. Load it on the laptop and drive. If I see a cache nearby I can do it, if there is one that sounds interesting I can detour off my route and do it. I am sure if GC.com wanted to they could easily do it. Would I have to pay more? Perhaps Would I be willing to? That also depends. I can get all my founds every week so I can't how the state wide PQ would be any different.
  7. Why should I have to respond to a gmail account isn't that in itself promoting Google mail? Why can I not respond to the cachers link on the page. I love the threatening tone, by noon or else, who made the original mistake in the posting of the listing? I have found this cache, in Niagara, I know the series it was from, but have no idea which cache it is now, there were probably 10 or so caches with similar names. I am sure that cache placer would enjoy coming back from a vacation to find out all this has transpired while he/she was away. This was the original text That sure sounded commercial to me, he liked a cereal as a kid This is the new text The poor guy had to redo the text of least 4 caches. He set up a series had it approved, it has been out for a couple of months. Now someone say listing a breakfast cereal's name, is BAD. So he has to relist his series, with a strict time line. He cannot reference other caches, because all the names are changing. He complied with 24 hrs of a note being posted on the cache page. His caches are still disabled! I have to commend Rockharder and the other cachers affected, for going more than that extra mile, it would have been much easier to just say "heck with it" and hit the archive button. I hope GC is not planning on redoing the whole website, Jabba listed just a few tradmark names and I am sure if you do a search you will find a few more, that fit trademarked or percieved commercial. Here is a quick 500 or so mickey mouse 15 sesame street 18 state park 232 kermit 31 harry potter 102 monopoly 102 I think the perception factor here is now to the point of ridiculous. I like this tactic as well, stop it or we will hold caches in the queue. Funny how I only see the one reviewers name show up on the pages, and cachetech trying to take the heat for the situation. Can't you let sleeping dogs lie? Enough already.
  8. Groundspeak also owns Waymarking. There are numerous categories with trade mark names. McDonald's, Walmart, and Star Bucks to name a few. So I have to wonder about the commercial caches, and the enforcement of the rules/guidelines.
  9. AGAIN?? GC1941T From "SHREDDIES-The Cereal Killer" to "SHREDDED MEAT-The Cereal Killer" I hope I never mention Tupperware, or a Lock and Lock
  10. I bought one a couple of weeks ago. The first igloo I knocked down before it was finished. Apparently it is very important to follow directions. I reread the directions and followed them to the letter and wound up with a great 7 foot igloo. I was surprised at how well it actually worked given I couldnt make a snow ball with the type of snow in the yard. I think snow like this would work better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pia4i5sr0o0...feature=related I am going to try the 11 foot version next week, at the chalet.
  11. In the Canada forums a topic regarding the removal of a restaurant menu at an upcoming event has turned into archiving all caches in Ontario with the name "Walmart" in the title. Is GC planning on revisiting all caches with a business reference and archiving them too??
  12. Put it back the way it was!! The new thing doens't work right. It takes longer to edit the date than type the log.
  13. Here is a good link to decide for yourself which you need. http://www.gpscentral.ca/accessories/mapso...differences.htm
  14. I posted the not available at night because sections of the loop are not on secured property(Bruce trail doesn't own them). The hiking along the edge of the escarpment is not a problem for me. The main concern is the section that the Scouts have granted access too. I didn't want to encourage poeple wandering through a Scout camp at night while kids are camping there, I am sure that would result in the loss of access if that happens. Hilton Falls Conservation Area is also closed after sunset.
  15. Having read the three previous GPS-O (Geo-Actuary) events description pages and logs. I want to know why his events are not grandfathered if the rules have been relaxed. The first event 0 attendees. The second event had 1 attendee The third event had 8 attendees. I read everyones logs, all seemed to really enjoy it, and learned alot about both compasses and their GPS units I fail to understand why an event that is getting more support from cachers each year, is denied. He has a laptop for uploading coordinates for the searches, or you can manually enter all points. There are different routes to do. Alot of events have caches/locations/games that could not be listed on GC.com website but are alot of fun at the event. At the end of the description he encourages people to participate in making his event even better by submitting comments or suggestions. From what I have seen caching, learning how to use a compass better, would be an asset to alot of cachers - who rely entirely too much on batteries and electronic equipment. Everything is listed quite clearly on the event page, if you dont want to go, don't sign up. What's the problem?
  16. To satisfy both sides: I now log virtuals as a note, I write the note as a found log. That way it is recorded on "My Cache Page" and is easy for me to find. Upon confirmation, I change the note to a find, or delete the log if I have the wrong information. If there is no reply from an absent cache owner, I wait a week and change it to a find, a week is long enough for the owner's reply.
  17. Smudge and I would like to join in. Sounds like fun , and the number of caches you have listed for a half day of caching is very ambitious! I'll head out first thing in the morning, complete with rain gear, just in case.
  18. That is my driving day to Quebec. 15th Count me in!
