  1. Here's our Michigan coin. We tried to also have some symbolism. The poppy side honors Veteran's Day. The Red Poppy is in Flanders Field (green). White poppies symbolize peace and we put only one so it would stand out...The flip side is the multi event side.

That is such a nice looking coin!

  2. These are my favorite coins because people gave them to me or I found them in caches.

I am also a little biased on my glitter version because it was so difficult for the mint to make it. They did not want to make a second batch.

  3. "moving pictures of trackables does not give me any pleasure or sense of satisfaction, so I choose not to bother."

I do not understand this response from someone who has released 13(?) geocoins. If I lost that many coins I probably wouldn't care about reusing the tracking number, what does the tracking number cost now? 2.50?

But if you lost maybe 150 or 200 coins would you not reuse the number by making a proxy? Some proxies represent coins that are in the owners possession, some proxies are replacements, some proxies are paper and some proxies are poker chips like mine. Whatever they are, who should judge the item or the owner who paid money for the tracking number?

Pleasure and satisfaction should be based on helping another cacher out, not passing judgement because something doesn't please or satisfy you. This is not your world. But if I am wrong I will get on my knees, beg for forgiveness and pray for understanding of this type of thought.

  4. What exactly are you basing your opinions upon? Forum posts?

    No. Human nature.

... a list of my traveling geocoins. As you can see, every one of them has been logged within the past two months.

I'm glad that your coins have been wracking up the miles, and quickly.

But miles are not what I was talking about.

I was talking about theft, not frequency of retrieval or travel.

Would an art thief rather steal a real Van Gogh or a copy of a Van Gogh?

Would a jewel thief rather steal diamonds or cut glass?

Would a geocoin thief rather steal a $15 geocoin or a $1 proxy?

If the only coins that were released into caches were the $1 proxy, eventually the thieves wouldn't bother raiding the caches, looking for the real $15 coins.

Good comparison except a art or jewelry thief know how to get rid of their items on the black market. A geocoin or proxy thief is a selfish _ _ _

  5. Looks like I opened a can of worms here. Tennessee Jed it is not your fault that the mailer goes missing so to ask for a replacement would, in my opinion, be wrong. I guess all we can hope for is that they turn up :)

I know it isn't my fault but there is a problem. I mailed a package to a friend in Germany and it took more than a month to arrive. It could be a problem over here because a package I sent to the Netherlands arrived within a week.

  6. Yanno, a lot depends on how the coins were packaged. Folks are sending coins in envelops that aren't made to handle the stress of 1oz metal bits being flung inside at dizzying speeds. I've had a bubble wrap arrive that had had its contents ripped out of it and on one occasion it was a postal employee who found the contents and re-taped everything together.... man that mailer sure was mangled. And I learned a lesson from that.... make sure the contents aren't moving around in the mailer and use a bit of tape to toughen the edges too just to be on the safe side. Tape and paper are cheaper than insurance.

Apparently this does not always work because I am one of the senders jpbarr is referring to. It must have been over a month ago I sent the package. Usually I will send a replacement package but I no longer have extra coins especially if they don't make it to the receiver overseas. In the US it wouldn't be as bad.

  7. The description on the 2007 Lackey says that anyone can keep it and I say that if it is put into a cache it probably will get stolen. Kinda like a Moun10bike coin. If you find one in a cache I suggest you keep it!

I do not believe the 2007 version will be adopted out but because of this thread I now know of two people that own one.

I would no more keep a 2007 Lackey geocoin placed into a cache to travel than I would any other owned geocoin. It may be owned by Signal on the trackable page, but if the original geocacher that dropped it into a cache posted that they intended it to travel, that is the mission that gets honored by me.

Glad I had the opportunity to find and move a 2007 Lackey geocoin once, and that one of the fourteen (or so) other cachers that moved and discovered it before me did not share your opinion to stash it into their personal collection because it would probably get stolen anyway.

If you should find a Moun10bike coin please please put it one of my caches!!!
