  1. Just got back to caching with my family, and I cannot load caches into my Garmin 550T.  I have tried to contact Groundspeak, but no help.  I am a premium  member but NO help.  I am not a computer person and don't understand what the text is stating.  My grandkids are very unhappy that we cannot go caching and so am I.  Can someone explain this in very simple terms.

  2. Just back on computer and can't download new Geocaches to my handheld. Firefox reports they NO longer support the Communicater. And Internet Exp doesnot either. How do I download caches now. I am a premium member.

  3. I recently received a email from Groundspeak reporting they were archiving my caches at the request of the State of AZ. Their claim was it was on AZ. Trust land. This cache was in place for over 5 years, why remove it now. It seems most of AZ. is "Off-limits" for everything. With the indian Res., military res. land closures by BLM, and now the State closures is Geocaching done in AZ?

  4. How do you get customer service from GARMIN. On several occasions I have E-mailed Garmin requesting help/info relating to a GPS unit and software. I get back a message they will contact me back within 3 business days, BIG story, still waiting after 3 weeks. I like Garmin units but they don't seem to care about customer service.

  5. Is the Garmin Montana 650T a good unit for Geocaching? I have been wanting to buy one but alittle high priced. I have also heard they have major problems. I have a Oregon 450t and it works well, but I do like the features listed for the 650t. Appreciate any info.

  6. I'm not sure what "the index for an area" is.

As a basic member, you can download .loc files in groups of up to 20 at a time from any search page.

The .loc file is coordinates, cache name and cache GC Code only.

index page==the page that lists the caches for the area you select. It has the basic info for the cache, from there I click on "Send to GPS", and click on "Write", then when I get the message I proceed to another cache. NO pocket querys, just each individual cache after I read the decription for that cach.

  7. Can you give a little more information about the problem you are seeing?

Where are you getting this message?

"I received the statement no info available because I had not renew my Premium status". On your Pocket Query page? On a PMO cache page? On your computer? On your GPS unit? Somewhere else?

And yes, if your Premium Membership lapses, you will not be able to access any Premium Membership features on the Geocaching.com website until you reactivate your membership.

I went to the info page for a town area, selected the caches I wanted to look for. Downloaded each cache individually to my Garmin 450t. They ploted OK on the maps. When we went to look for them my GPSr just stated I needed to be a Premium member to obtain the cache, hints, logs, and description. I even notified the cache owners their caches were incorrectly marked. I am NOT happy with Groundspeak or ?

  8. I was loading cachs from the computer and had some problems. Then later that day while caching it just shut off and would not restart. I did the 'master reset" but did not help. Installed new batteries and still nothing. Is there something I can do to fix this problem, need for geocaching.

  9. We are preparing to have a Geocaching Event this Summer(2010), and are looking for some ideas. We have talked of a 'Poker Run', but not sure how to run it. Is there anyone with some suggestions for a fun event. ;):)

  10. ?

It should default to centring the search around you.

Failing that, hit the 'Geocaches' icon, and then the target button at the bottom. After that choosing 'My Current Location' should re-centre your search.

Aside from that, I feel the need to give my general advice on the matter though - Look at the map and not the list. You should see the icon as you drive by it.

Thanks I'll give this a try.

  11. Is there a procedure to set the distance proximately (Oregon400T) for Geocaching?? I had a 60Scx and when you turned it on and went to Geocaches it put them in order as to distance from where you were. Now on the 400T the Geocaches are out of order (distance).

Far way caches show-up closer and they are scattered in order. This causes me to drive by and miss some caches.

Can someone tell me how to set them a distance order.

  12. I have been using a GPS 60CSx for geocaching and now I have a Oregon 400t. I cannot find how to delete my found caches. Can someone tell me how to do this (please, keep it simple). Thank you.

I don't own one but I'm sure you can find your answer here: http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/

It is in there, and the answer is that you can't do it from the unit. Your only choice is to reload the geocaches after removing found caches.

Perhaps if you describe why you want to do it, we can suggest an alternative way of doing it?

Just not to clutter my machine.

  13. I do not have "Waypoint Averageing" on my unit. I have Ver. 3.30. Is it hide somewhere under another subtitle?

I did not either after I updated, I had to go to "Set up", "Main Menu"... I think. Then go all the way to the right. There should be some Icons that are not active (grayed out). You will have to play around with it... they should be there somewhere.

Thank you for the help, that work great.
