Who's in favour of hiding all "found" counts?
OFF RODE replied to seneca's topic in General geocaching topics
For us here in Az it really doesnt matter because we have This Pagethat keeps track of just about everything to do with Geocaching in Az (including not founds, if logged) "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." Yogi Berra -
GPS V + laptop: 1 or 2 cables needed in a car?
OFF RODE replied to TheCacheCrew's topic in GPS technology and devices
With my G3+ I just use the pc cable to the laptop and let the batteries supply the power for GPSr. I installed a 12v-110 inverter to power the laptop. If I were to run this setup for extended periods of time (ie over 8 hours or so) I would probably opt for the combo cable. Delorme Topo 4.0 Software Problems
OFF RODE replied to jzinckgra's topic in GPS technology and devices
I use the NG TOPO! software and think its great.... 1:24000 USGS maps, excellent features and works great with a Garmin 3+. It too is rather pricey @ about 100$ a state. Besides Geocaching I use it for live tracking on a laptop while offroading and get very accurate recordings of my routes. have address, get coordinates?
OFF RODE replied to Cleenjeep & Danger Girl's topic in General geocaching topics
Input the address to Mapblast and when the map displays the co ords will be in the upper right corner of the map. "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." Yogi Berra JeepNAz@aol.com -
You may need to log out then back in for the changes to take effect. "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." Yogi Berra JeepNAz@aol.com

Its an outside site that "crawls" Geocaching.com daily and records all the cache logs...its very accurate. "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." Yogi Berra JeepNAz@aol.com

I did quick check of the Arizona Stats page and saw nothing...but there are over 1000 entrys however seaching the database provided nothing either. Which means they have never logged a find, not found or note to any cache in Az. If youd like to take a look heres the LINK "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." Yogi Berra JeepNAz@aol.com

Try that here in Az....youll have 3rd degree burns on yer feet "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." Yogi Berra JeepNAz@aol.com

Although I use a GPSr I always use it in conjunction with a map....I dont see why it should REQUIRE a GPSR....its GEOcaching not GPSrcaching...If people can do it the "old fashioned way" more power to them! How about using a dedicated board like from http://www.arcomcontrols.com/ and secure it under a seat. Take the video output to an LCD screen attached via a mount or velcro. Just a thought and I bring it up for comments. Top Not enough room in an Expedition??? I do it in a Jeep Wrangler! check out Ram Mounts for some ides. There are a lot of cool looking jeep trails out here in the West. Yes there are! And here in Az there are alot of Geocaches on them! Makes for a great combination of the two activities. I have one....a laptop with NG TOPO! and set it to live track....not real good for on foot geocaching but works great for getting close. "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." Yogi Berra JeepNAz@aol.com

As another option theres National Geographic TOPO! which will give you 1:24000 topo maps for all of Texas for about 100$ Not real good for city maps but I find them (at least here in Az) excellent. And you can do even more then what you are after now ( like elevation profiles) Wait ...does Texas even have different elevations??? Are you trying to get a map on your GPSr or on the computer? "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." Yogi Berra JeepNAz@aol.com

Projecting waypoints in the field
OFF RODE replied to Zartimus's topic in GPS technology and devices
My G3+ allows entrys to the foot, but as stated thats way mor accurate then the GPSr can determine, but it does make me feel a bit more precise. "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." Yogi Berra JeepNAz@aol.com -
Cant help you with either of those programs but I do exactly what you are saying with National Geographic TOPO! For my application (offroading and remote caching) it works GREAT. Not that good in the city because many of the streets are not there due to the age of the scanned USGS Topos (1:24000). from MeMaps web page NOTE: MeMap does not work with version 2.70 and above of the eMap firmware - messages in these versions are stored in a proprietary compressed format, which MeMap cannot handle. 4) Screen is difficult to read when in the pouring rain. You dont have the model with the windsheild wiper??? "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." Yogi Berra JeepNAz@aol.com

I have my G3+ connected to a laptop (mounted with a Ram Mount) with Natl. Geo TOPO! and live track with it while offroading...not to practical for geocaching but for getting close to backroad caches its great "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there."
