  1. Got my coins Signal Coins today, $10/each. I also got Generic Geocoins (nickel), about $5.50/each and a Compass Rose, about $8. Naturally I made a few comparisons: the Signal coins are the same size as the Generics with more color and detail. So if the Generics are fairly priced, then I'd pay a bit more for Signal. But, the Compass Rose Coin is larger & one side has incredible detail (IMO it's one of the most beautiful coins out there). And it still cost 20% less than the Signal Coin. So while I'm not disappointed in the Signal coin per se, when you compare it to other coins out there, it just doesn't seem like a very good value. Oh well, live & learn.
  2. I was wondering that too. As of now 17 bids, some by names I recognize from this forum, which sort of surprised me. I'm reasonably new to caching, and even newer to coin collecting, but I'm not sure what makes this coin fundamentally different than the other 539 coins currently being auctioned there. I'm just asking this as an honest question. Some collectors sell their extra coins and presumabely are making a profit, maybe they are paying their bills, maybe they are buying more coins. In any case they are not (as far as I know) giving back any of these profits to the original maker/owner of the coin. The bidding is at $660 and the reserve has not been met. If people stopped bidding now the coin would not be sold, and the owner would be stuck with the listing fees. This particular coin will never again see a cache. In the end would be better for the seller (who seems to view the coin as a means to an end) to keep the coin or for it to go to someone else's collection presumably someone who appreciates the value of it? And they better appreciate it since it looks like it will cost them $1000 or so. JRR
  3. I have a different idea. I think Jeremy should give all the Groundspeak Lackies a free trip to Hawaii, then they would be able to leave those coins in the cool caches we have around here.
  4. It's been a really good week so far: Monday: Phone-a-Friend Tuesday:BikeDog Wednesday: Dorkfish Prime Meridian AT Georgia + pins Now I even have a few to trade.
  5. We'd like 4, or more; they look great & we love Canada, especially BC.
  6. We would really like to order some for our event: GCT57H Wai'alae Beach Park 2006 CITO. However, since the only shipping option is UPS, and there is no "ground" option to Hawaii the cost of shipping is prohibitive, i.e., more than the cost of the shirts. We've sent an e-mail to the contact address at the store but haven't had any response. Any help on how to get an order sent via US mail would be appreciated. Thanks!
  7. Cool idea! Maybe make some LE "copper tops." Yes we are brand loyal!
  8. Geocoins TNTC (too numerous to count)! But in case you are wondering: Absolute Caching Not Another Micro Satellite Scotland World Travel Coins Proving that transfering money in cyberspace is not a totally pointless activity. Let's just say the sillygirl half of this team was beginning to wonder what was up with all those paypal invoices. Now even I have some to trade.
  9. Sign us up. Though lots of the benchmarks here in Hawaii weren't monumented till after 1960, there are some older ones around. We do have a trip to the mainland in April.
  10. Got ours today as well, gorgeous! It's all activated & will now be our personal TB.
  11. A Loggerhead Turtle! This is our first owned trackable coin!
  12. Does that mean there would no points for benchmarks monumented after 1949?
  13. Any chance the west coast might include Hawaii?????? I'm sure there would lots of volunteers to accompany ICON HO on its journey.
  14. If you would rather adopt the cache, instead of having it archived and planting a new one, send an e-mail to your local reviewer and explain the situation. Several caches here on Oahu have recently been adopted this way. Reasons to adopt/replace rather than archive might include: preserving the orignal GCnumber, keeping the older logs around, and saving yourself the trouble of submitting a new cache for review. If the cache is truly missing, I'd suggest you go ahead and replace it, the post a note to the cache page so people will know there is now something to find. The advantage of archiving the old one would be those who found it would now have a new one to find. The advantage of officially adopting, rather than just "maintaining/replacing" a missing cache, is that as the owner you will be able to modify the listing as needed, and mark any TBs which may have disappeared as "missing." See the notes from 09/05-present for: Strangled Palm Hope this helps and good luck. JRR
  15. Worked on us; we found that PA coin and then left in another cache. Shocking isn't it? BTW: we thought the set up was very clever. Too bad we're not going to New Zealand with it.
  16. cool coin & a must have for us cache detectives. will we get an e-mail confirming order?
  17. Or you could just register on the www.geocachingwa.org site and log the coin. It looks like you only need to give an e-mail address and user name. All the other fields are not required. We've never found a WA coin, but the Oregon ones seem to work the same way; though you can log the coin on the Oregon site as a guest.
