  1. Aloha, & enjoy your trip. There are lots of safe accessible caches on Oahu. Just don't leave valuables in your rental car. A couple Full size caches likely to be not too far from your hotel & definitely worth doing: Sands of Waikiki, Strangled Palm Our "iki" caches are all micro/small caches in easy to get to parks, hope you can find a few of them. The ones with the + sign can hold small trade items/geocoins. Other caches you might drive right by while sight seeing: Attack of the Killer Ducks, Secret Menehune Fishing Spot (this one is really a must do, it is less than 5 minutes from the lookout parking), Bridge to Nowhere, (that one is ours too), Stone Rabbit, Alala Point Cache, Kualoa Ranch (good one with non-cachers as it is placed with permission of the owners right near a large souvenir store), Kahana Bay Bug Stop, Chillin' Wit Da Shrimps, Shady Spot (it's very well hidden so consider that if time is an issue).
  2. We usually say something like this: "Aloha CacherX, Thanks so much for picking up our TB1234. We notice you've had for a bit; we're hoping you'll be able to place it in a new cache soon. Happy Caching, s&j PS: If you've lost/or misplaced the bug, no worries, just let us know so we can mark it missing and send out its duplicate tag."
  3. I think that would be great on a card. You could considering editing first two sentences as below, then you only have to say "Fake Jeep" once.
  4. Without a doubt the most amazing reviewer is erik88l-r. That guy spans the globe: he can simultaneously publish caches in Georgia, Hawaii, Alaska, & Japan (+ other exotic locales). Oh not only that, he has caught all of our bonehead mistakes, without ever making us feel like boneheads. He answers e-mails promptly and usually is able to answer our questions! And when he has not had the answers he has directed to those who have. The rest of y'all just don't know what you're missing.
  5. This was just posted today, but back dated. This virtual cache was disabled 5/21 after we e-mailed the owner. Anyway we didn't see any other hikers on the trail that day, and couldn't remember that cacher posting any other finds in Hawaii (hey it's a small island and it would be strange for a visitors only find to be a virtual on a little known trial). I checked their profile and with today's date they have logged virtual caches in Hawaii, Georgia, Colorado and Arkansas. Yesterday's logs include caches in Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Florida. Hopefully some of the cache owners will delete the bogus logs if the correct info was not supplied via e-mail.
  6. You can e-mail the TB's owner via the link on their profile; you'll be taken to the profile if you click on the "owner" of the TB. Also, I believe you can write a "note" on a TB page without the tracking ##. Try leaving the TB # blank. If that doesn't work use the number that starts with a TB in the upper left-hand corner of the TB's page. Hope that is helpful. jrr
  7. Thanks! I've been wondering if it was possible to both "watch" & "ignore" a cache, but hadn't tried it yet. Glad to know they are not mutually exclusive. OT: We don't log our own caches, though a couple times sillygirl has hidden one which I have then had to "find" before it was submitted. It actually works well since I get to "test" the coordinates & if I need a hint then we generally include one in the cache description. jrr
  8. sent an e-mail yesterday, but didn't get an invoice. Just sent a second one. jrr
  9. I just looked at my order, and that was me. jrr

  12. We would be happy to release a FEEP or two in Hawaii & conatact us about coin contributions.
  13. Aloha! Yes that was me, the "& JRR" part of this team. If there was another cacher on the show Alex didn't remember, as he specifically said, he had never heard of geocaching before. Our little chat was actually edited for TV, because he said he had an old GPRr in his closet that he never used! We actually just watched the show today as we were caching on Kauai and weren't ready to quit when the show aired (since we knew what happened & all). As for writing my geohandle, I didn't know for sure I'd be talking about geocaching with Alex. All the contestants are asked to list 5 unique hobbies, experiences, etc. and then Alex picks the one he wants to talk about during the show. Judy PS: It was a very fun experience, even if I didn't win. Plus we got to find a few caches in LA.
  14. Wow, I'm impressed, haven't read this thread since early on. Glad you got Migoi to help with the Hawaii cache! I can't believe no one has mentioned this, but did you know that there is a series of caches called: Caching Across America? This is the Hawaii cache in the series. From their profile the owners of those caches have them in Hawaii, RI, MA, & OH. I believe these cachers want to own a cache in every state. They had contacted us about placing one in Hawaii a while back. The Hawaii one is one Kauai, so it's not on the same island as the planned one for this series. But since the names sound similiar, I wouldn't want anyone to get confused in HI or elsewhere. JRR edit bad grammar
  15. Kansas sunshine goes well with the Hawaiian variety! Thanks for the coins especially the golden one.
  16. the short answer: yes! Oh would you like to know how as well? Use the Adoption Page. Just make sure to use the TBxxxx number from the coin page. edit typos
  17. I just thought he was referring to his own personal racial identity. But then again, I live in Hawaii where many people can choose more than one box on the race/ethnicity chart. JRR Edited to say it's my hand holding that e-trex legend...
  18. I have a set of Puzzle Coins (Polished Silver) that I'd like to trade as a set for 4 of the following: Bluebonnet Coin Club Jeep Coin Club Selective Availability (any) Geocacher U Illinois JungleGarmin Legend of Bigfoot Quebec Team Pez Toronto Vermont Utah I'd count the following as (at least) 2 coins: Kansas Tornado Red Phone a Friend Coin Club Ammobox or Benchmark Colorado 2005 Or I'd trade the whole set for a Volunteer or something similar. JRR edited to add more coin choices
  19. First, I generally don't think it's a "find" unless you've retrieved the cache and signed the log. Since we are a 2 person team, if we tried this one I'm guessing only one of us would venture down there. But if we were part of a bigger group and one person retrieved the cache and brought up to a safer spot for everyone to sign, I wouldn't have a problem with that either. I am confused though, but about the rating of your cache. It is rated 4 stars for difficulty and 2 stars for terrrain. From what I am reading (loose sharp rocks etc.) that doesn't really sound like 2 star terrain to me, even if it is just a couple hundred feet from parking. Since you say the "find" is relatively easy, perhaps you could change the rating to 2 star difficulty and 3.5 or 4 star terrain. Then no one would be surprised that it's "down there" and everyone would be expecting a certain amount of "danger" to be involved in the find. Just a thought. As a point of reference, there's a somewhat simliar cache near us: GCWE52 That one you walk to the edge of a "v" shaped bluff overlooking the ocean. In the end you don't have to rappel or climb down to retrieve the cache. But you do have to sit or lie on the narrow edge and reach down for to grab it. In terms of distance, (200ft from road) it's a park & grab, but the hider (appropriately, IMO) rated the terrain 3 stars. And finally, if the point of your May post was to encourage people to stop at a really cool spot (even if they don't feel comfortable searching for the cache) and that you'd like to know that they did, maybe you just need to be a little more clear in your note. As I can understand why some non-finders posted their "found its." You could say something like, "This is a great spot, with amazing views; feel free to post a note if you stopped and enoyed them, even if you didn't feel comfortable seeking the cache." And thanks for reminding us, we need to go back to Alaska! Last time we were there, we had never heard of geocaching & I know there must be some really great ones to find up there. JRR
  20. What if we did receive a refund & still want the coins?
  21. I paid with cash & did get a refund, strange. I still want the coins too. JRR
  22. We think it's a cool idea. We confess that at our recent CITO event, we placed a temporary cache on our RAV4. It was visible, but only from certain angles; as the parking lot was pretty crowded we did have a few folks ask us what kind of car we drove. We thought for a while about how a way to make it a permanent cache, but couldn't come up with a viable one. Anyhow we hope it gets published as a limited hours cache. We had plenty of fun reading the log of the temporary cache, you'd get to have that enjoyment every day!
