  1. Strangely I couldn't get the link to work all day (using the cut/paste method). As I was typing an e-mail to tell you that, I noticed I had a hotlink in the quoted text of my reply. I clicked there and was able to subscribe. All's well that ends well.
  2. Yep, 3 coins within 200 miles of home coordinates. If we could drive to them, we'd already be in the car... We are actually flying to the Big Island 10/13. The one up on Mauna Kea might still be there then... Note to self, see about changing rental car to 4WD vehicle.

  4. There's a CITO event on Oahu this weekend. GCXTXW As for Pizza, it's not very good for the most part. The sushi on the other hand... We'll just be getting back to Oahu on 11/25, so it's not likely we'd be able to make over to Kona.
  5. 2a.m. EDT is 8p.m. in Hawaii! Glad I noticed this thread, we've never seen it either.
  6. I heard that my coin was taken from NY to Afghanistan, that should give it a nice jump once it gets placed in a cache. JRR
  7. No Hawaii (or Alaska). *pout* Maybe we should make a Hawaii state coin set, one for each island....
  8. Where is that info about the Earthcaches posted?
  9. If it were me I'd write to Signal the Frog for advice. When in doubt, go to the source. ... Oh wait that's for puzzle caches... If the coin is owned by Signal the Frog (he has 1900 Lackey coins in his trackables owned list), then I would defer to him. If he is okay with coin being sold, and you still want to pay that kind of $$ for it then buy it and perhaps he will adopt it out to you. If the frog was unware his coin was being auctioned, and does not approve of the sale, then I'd tell the seller sorry. I only glanced at a few of the coins and didn't see any "these coins are not to be sold" language, but there are lots of activated coins. JRR
  10. Aloha! First buy this book: "So You Want to Live in Hawaii" (it's available on Amazon if you can't find it locally). It has lots of good advice and explains much about how things work here, it is different. We moved to Oahu from Atlana, Ga a little over 2 years ago and are pretty well settled now, but it will take a bit of time to get adjusted. Even if visited often, otherwise there will be culture shock. (On Oahu regular gas is still $3.20/gallon). Since you are moving to the Big Island you'll be about 180 miles south of our home coordinates. There are not too many active cachers on the Big Island right now. But there are lots of great places for caches so you can place them for us to come find on our visits. Not many Hawaii cachers hang out on the national forums, our local forum is here: GPS Talk. Most of the active posters live on Oahu, but check it out.
  11. Present company execpted, most Hawaii cachers do not check the national forums... But if you post in the GPS Talk section of Hawaii Threads, your post will be seen by more locals. If you are staying in Waikiki then don't miss "The Sands of Waikiki" and "Strangled Palm." You'll pass lots of caches if you drive to Haunama Bay, just past there is the "Secret Menehune Fishing Spot" which I highly recommend. We think "Cache of the Holy Grail" was the most fun (you need a flashlight, so be prepared).
  12. Okay, after seeing the e-mail my post still seems relevant. Hmmm. So where is it that we have skated off the slippery slope here? I'm sitting at my desk with the copy TB tag attached to Mini Me Too. I have 2 other travelers belonging to others also with "copy" TB tags attached to them. By all accounts this is acceptable and even encouraged right? I've also moved a TB that did not have any metal dog tag, but rather a laminated piece of paper with theTB number. In that case the 2 other travelers had gone missing with Tag and the COPY Tag. So do TBs now only have 2 lives and those living a third without a "real" tag are in danger of being locked? I realize coins are a bit different since so many never travel, but I have run across several "coin fascimiles" in caches. One was called a "coin card," one was just phtocopy of the coin in a baggie. (Nothing on the coin's page indicated it was a replica, although that is how the owner released it.) The third one I didn't even see but rather we in our found log said that there was no coin in the cache. The coin owner wrote us that it wasn't a coin, but a laminated card with a picture of the coin. So are these all in danger of being locked down? If so that seems pretty unfair as I can remember at least 3 RECENT threads discussing the etiquette of coin replicas and though lots of folks don't like it, I don't recall any "official" stance that it isn't allowed. So if coin replicas are allowed, it would seem to me that your cache could be reinstated as long as there was a representation of the coin there. Either that or Groundspeak is going to have a the huge job of locking all those coin replica pages... The worst part of that job would be, the honest folks, those who state on the page that their "coin" is a replica, would have their pages locked first. Now it's the difference between the tracking ## on a picture of the coin in the cache and merely the ## in the log book is in some ways splitting hairs IMO, especially since the "coin" isn't traveling, but rather being discovered. But I guess if there is "coin" in the cache to be discovered then there will be no "virtual" logging, e.g., just passing along a tracking number. I think you have a legitimate gripe about your cache being archived. JRR edit spelling & grammar
  13. Okay, before I post the long reply I typed, I want to see the e-mail too... JRR
  14. Yeah there's no mail on Sunday, but we got to see our geo-friend BBWolf+3 Pigs, who was in town for a quick work trip, and he had a special present for us: COINFUSION PROJECT 2006 coin.
  15. If the coin is the new Candadian one which is trackable at gc.com, then someone at Groundspeak, may be able to help you retrieve the code. If it is the original Canadian coin (trackable at their site) then I don't know what to tell you. We were given one of those as a present that we could never activate because we didn't buy it! It's still sitting in our collection, though we originally had planned to release it.
  16. You found a GeoCoin Club Anniversary Coin, and it is indeed trackable. Try entering the 6 digit code on the back (it starts with "CC") at the top right of the Travelbug lookup page. If the coin is activated that will take you to its page and the page will have the coin's owner and any previous logs. Then you can contact the owner (or whomever is listed as having the coin) and ask them to drop the coin into the cache where you found it. Or you can simply "grab" the coin, it will be one of the options when you click "Found It? Log It!" on the coin page. Hope that helps. JRR
  17. I requested 3 earlier, but my preference might not be clear. 1 black nickel, 1 antique brass, 1 antique copper.
  18. The trade winds blow from east to west....and your coins are having a wonderful vacation! Maybe you just need to come pick them up. As for the OP: The peanut butter cache series are done by CRider, he also has about 50 other caches on some little known hiking trails. The peanut butter ones all have terrain ratings of 2 or less, and except for 2 near the Ko Olina resorts, they are all off the beaten tourist track. On Oahu also check out the caches by Menehune Man, Dadwrap, & TeamGeoblast. We have a Series of Iki (the Hawaiian word for small) Caches all in or near lesser know spots of interest but still close to the beaten path. For a shorter hike (2-3 miles RT mostly on a paved road) with lots of caches & great views check out the Makapuu caches. We are going to Maui this weekend and were on Kauai in July, you can check out our logs for caches there. There are caches everywhere, so decide what you want to do/see and go from there. & feel free to contact us. JRR
  19. Go to the Travel Bug page. Enter the tracking number in box at the top right then click search. It should bring up the coin's page and you'll be able to "grab it" from where ever it is currently listed as being. jrr edit: can not tell left from right
  20. I've been Yimed! Mahalo! And from the East Coast this was a new record in speediness, no joke. Mail from our families in NY & FL takes an average of 8 days, Yimes take only 4. I guess even the USPS loves the Yimes. jrr
