  3. Logging another find for the contest. This mark is not the same as above post (ME1851) it's a new find. Hope this isn't confusing. It's another snow find. ME1850 Setting 30= 1 point (+1 point for the snow bonus)
  4. We need to correct the amount of Snow Points we claimed on 3-30-09 for ME1851. ME1851 Setting 30 =1 point (+1 +5 points for the 1st snow bonus for that setting number) = 2 points 6 points
  5. Adding a new find for the contest. ME1729 - Setting 7 - 1 point
  6. These are being resubmitted for the contest. Originally submitted on 3-22-09 without our GPS'r in the picture. As everyone knows non disk type marks need to have a GPS in the picture. We received no points for them. We've updated our Geocaching.com logs to include our pictures with our GPS in them. 10. We don't have a problem with it either. Jo Ann and Brendan
  11. Oops....I signed up in the wrong thread....So I'm signing up here too... Jo Ann
  12. The snow and cold has put our benchmarking on hold also. We just had 10 inches of snow and the temperature is suppose to be 16 on Wednesday, 6 on Thursday, 9 on Friday. That's without the wind chill. Then a warm 28 on Saturday that will feel almost balmy. Sometimes the problem isn't shoveling to find the benchmarks but you need to be careful that you aren't going to pull off the side of the road and get stuck in the snow. If the road has been plowed then the snow has been dumped on the side of the road making it impossible to park on the side of the road. By the time you finish shoveling to get your front door open, then shovel your way to the car and shovel your way out of the driveway you don't want to now have a hobby that requires shoveling. We will wait until our hobby doesn't require a snow shovel. We will probably be up for a Benchmark contest. Jo Ann
  13. Hi I took a look at your log for OF0281. The picture that elsa57 uploaded on the log is not a picture of the benchmark OF0281. OF0281 should have stamped on it "E 111 RESET 1965". Not Gaging Station, like the mark you found. What you found isn't the benchmark. If you look at the picture of the 1st log for that mark made by Team Position Police you will see what the benchmark looks like. Jo Ann
  14. Speaking of those "structural benchmarks" maybe Homeland Security should get in on it too...we could check up on the water tanks, bridges, airports etc....for terrorist activity...as long as we're already out there. Jo Ann
  15. Good point. When approached by the curious (usually the owner of adjacent land), I make sure to mention in the first sentence that this is not a property related survey activity. Most of the marks we find are on highway ROWs. I've only once stopped searching for a mark on a ROW due to a land owner - he was drunk and driving his pickup in the ROW along side of me ranting about land owner rights and such. I figured I best leave that mark for another generation to find. I am surprised at the amount of disinterest the public has. I have had police cars pass by while I am digging and not even stop. It's probably because I look like a professional Brendan
  16. I thought it looked too shiny to be galvanized. Maybe it's just the picture. Brendan
  17. Interesting. It is literally a plumbing pipe and cap. What kind of metal is it that it is not rusted? Brendan
  18. We received ours in the mail also. It's really nice. We're not putting ours in a cache either. It would get swiped really fast. We have lesser ones that have gone missing. THANKS GEO....very cool. Team Fawlty
  19. It makes sense for 1943 as well, since automobile production was ceased in mid 1942 through 1945. Nickels were made of silver during that period. 1943 pennies were made of steel. Team Fawlty
  20. GPS & Camera with extra batteries for both. Radio Shack metal detector, we use it all the time, and extra batteries. Fiberglass T-handle probe rod 300' fiberglass measuring tape NGS Data sheets Garden Trowel Those are our essentials. We also carry paper towels, spray bottle filled with water and a small scrubbing brush for cleaning marks. Log book, pencils, cell phone, insect repellent, sunblock, munchies and drinking water. Laptop that we mostly use to find near by Dairy Queens I don't like cornstarch, so I have sidewalk chalk and a yellow crayon. Haven't used either of them yet. We haven't had a big problem with water covering the marks but I've been thinking of getting a turkey baster to help remove small amounts of water. This time of year we have a problem with burrs. So we add tweezers and a sticky link roller to our bag. Jo Ann
  21. Everything we've logged is included in the update. Thanks for all your hard work and the great job you do at keeping your website updated. I especially appreciate your maps. Jo Ann
  22. We logged recoveries with NGS that we back dated to May & June. We see that your updates haven't caught those. I'm guessing they won't ever be included in your data. In order for them to be included do we need to log the recovery dates in the current month? Or do you also get the new data for previous months? Jo Ann
  23. I discovered geotagging last season and have been using it ever since. I sync the camera time with the GPSr time before we leave and track the entire trip. When I return, I run a program which matches the photo timestamps with the GPSr log and writes the coords to the photos. Brendan
  24. I don't really have anthing to add to the topic, it just caught my attention as I recognized the station name. I picked this mark up during lunch one day. I measured to all the RMs and only found RM 3. RM 1 measured to the edge of the entrance driveway and could be under the gravel. They must have set this in the winter judging by all the water tanks measured. Brendan
