Hi, I am a newbie here and have read thousands of threads to try and to solve my problems of using a pocketpc with geocaching. The bigest problem was mapping software. I eventually found BeeLineGPS which works well but it doesn't show you any points other than the geocache points (no roads, POIs, ect). There are probably a bunch of US maps available somewhere to download, but I am down under.
I had already purchased Destinator 3 and gotten the latest patches, so wanted to use that for Australia and when I travel to Europe (I am still trying to figure out how to bulk download gpx files by country... love to hear any hints on that one).
I have figured out how to get the data from gpx (or possibly ico) to Destinator 3 (version 3.0.75 only with the latest patches and upgrades) via GSAK (Geocache Swiss Army Knife).
Here goes...
Load GPX/LOC files into GSAK (see other threads if you can't do this)
Export out of GSAK as Fugawi TXT file
Load into Excel as *.txt
On the text import wizard select 'delimited'
next screen select 'comma'
select 'finish'
Delete rows 1 to 10 (header information)
Delete column A (Abbreviated version... you want to see full title and t/d info)
Delete column E (not needed)
Swap column C and D (longitude and latitude)
Save as CSV (comma delimited)
Close the excel file (you will get 'no data' in Destinator if you don't)
Load the 'Destinator Console 3.0.75' application on PC
Click the map you want to use for import (I am using multiple)
Click the 'Favourites Importer' (I believe this is new)
Click the '...' to load your file
Click 'Convert'
Click 'Download'
Open destinator on PPC
Tap 'Destinate'
Tap 'Favourites'
You should now have all your Geocache points. I have tested mine on my ppc and they all appear. You may want to edit and change to icon to something else other than favourites.
I will probably continue to use BeeLineGPS for close proximity as it dots the track you are making and has a great zoom factor.
Hope it all works for you. If anyone optimises this process, let me know.
Sacada.
