    Search Pages

This was REALLY bothering me as well until I realized I could right-mouse-click the link and choose "open link in new window". That leaves the search page intact for future clicks. Now, if I can only remember to do it this way... -WR
  4. A disk has filled up. The error will spread to addtional pages until the West Coast wakes up.

  6. We have six states that have had no approvals since Saturday. The queue might be a bit lengthy when our regular approver(s) (God bless them) are back on line. -WR
  7. That would be a very good guess for the cache. -WR
  8. Nice pics REveritt Another cacher in your area leaves these FINE looking GeoCoins. This new edition is brass. His last ones were pewter: -WR
  9. Snat makes a good point. If you hid it up here in New England, we'd be all over it. While I wouldn't stoop to a Nashville caching trip, your cache does have a certain draw... -WR
  10. Once I leave the house, the only electronics I normally have is a FujiFilm FinePix A205. Editted to add a cheapie metal detector, while is really a benchmarking tool, not a caching one. -WR
  11. Nothing has stopped me yet, other than someone politely asking me to let it go (only works some of the time). I don't THINK I would break out of jail to go after one. Fortunately, I have only been locked up AFTER finding the cache(s). -WR
  12. I think one line of gc.com code would go a LONG way; Micros should no longer increase your found count. As for the cachers that would have a problem with this... Well, we know who they are. -WR
  13. Maybe it will meet up with my Get Your Kicks TB, which has been hitting Route 66 for a couple of years now. The page lists Route 66 caches that existed back then. -WR
  14. I do apologize for taking such a broad swipe at the event, and Tennesse. It was this that originally caught my eye: "Everyone who participates in the roundup will be allowed to “log” them. If you haven't logged them before, this will be your last opportunity. If you have logged them before, you get to log them one last time." At first, I didn't undestand why they said "one last time" instead of "for a second time". Looking at one of the caches, I saw people were logging it for a THIRD time. I've only seen that before for caches that move. Of course, a club can play the game any way they like, but please don't maintain that such practices are "generally accepted behavior" within the greater geocaching community. -WR
  15. It's AMAZINGLY simple. Here is the "event". A quick reading will tell you everything you need to know about TN "geocaching". -WR
  16. I can't find any that have been approved in 2005. I believe there are several that are pending approval from geocaching.com. Has the joint project disintegrated? -WR
  17. Those look like bearings, not coordinates. I assume you found them on a land deed. The deed should give you a starting point at one of the corners of the property, and then you traverse the boundaries using the distances and bearings. ........0........ ........N........ ........|......... 90 W - E 90 ........|........ ........S........ ........0........ Turning the angles at the corners is where you would normally use a transit. To convert to "compass" bearings, use the diagram above, which is another way to look at the normal 0-360 representation. e.g. for "S 89° 01' 34' E": 1) Start at "S", or 180 degreees 2) Swing 89.01.34 to the "E" 3) giving a north bearing of 90.58.26, or about due east Using some basic trig, you should be able to plot a sketch. Good luck finding the corners! -WR
  18. Uh, everyone has the opportunity to hide and find these: Earthcache virtuals -WR
  19. Since I am not a rock climber, this got me shaking: -WR
  20. It could just be another wave of TN micro-spew. They've coughed up about 100 this year so far. We've even had a recent rash of them up here in MA. Now we are up to seven (7) for the year. -WR
  21. Actually, this is my favorite thread EVER, even if it is a bit dis(un?)jointed. Be careful what you ask for... =WR
  22. I recently completed a multi that had logbooks at each stage. Thing is, you had to get a travel bug from the owners to get started... The growth of logging restrictions continues. Are spotted owls taking over the world? -WR
  23. True. To that end. I am posting a summary and closing this topic. Thanks for all the feedback: ====================== I am not sure how this one got approved,... Don't like the smell of this one... Still don't like the smell of it, But why place a cache that forces people to play his way? It's got nothing to do with the smell. I just don't like it. kinda wish that Premium Member "ignore cache" feature came into effect VERY soon "Banish this waypoint from ever again appearing before my eyes"? ** Still, I can understand some people might get irritated by a cache they can't log. But there is no chance of ever whiping the cache in question off your nearest caches list. I don't like it either. I see the intended humor of the cache but in the end it ends up being a bit mean spirited. I don't like it and I don't think it should be allowed. It effectively defeats the functionality of the website as RK pointed out. My personal opinion of the cache is that the rule stinks. No rule against it, but I just don't see the point. This is inconsiderate, to say the least...this is just pointless and rude. I don't like it either... I also do not think it is a good cache.. just more of a "protest cache'...It also seems to lack the "spirit' of geocaching. ...why would you do such a thing? Because you can impose your will on others, and frustrate them because of the way they play the game.. Frankly, I'd imagine that this is just more fuel on the fire from WH to further the bad blood between him and some other cachers in the area. ...why would you bother hunting the cache in the first place? I disagree with the nature of the cache. Glad I don't live near this one. It would annoy me to no end everytime I passed a "not found, but yet found cache" while out on a run. What's next? Listable, but I don't really like it I like the smiley to tell me that it has been done. Rude. Obnoxious. Kinda funny. I don't think if I lived in and around either of these caches I would like their selection of rules. I know, its their right but. . . I STILL don't get the point of this cache Why make a cache to irritate most of the cachers. ...it's another thing to take advantage of the site to essentially impose your view on others. log it as a find and make them do the work i hate it. if you'll excuse me, i have to go log my DNF now. ...the only point here is to irritate an ever-growing population of area cachers, many of whom are psycho numbers hunters (myself included, at times). GPSfun are you listening? It's starting to sound like the majority of the community DOESN'T like the idea. I personally don't like it though. ====================== -WR
