[Explorist 600 AUS firmware 2.57]

Hi users,

 

I've just updated my Australian 600 unit from firmware 2.03 to 2.57. I've lost WAAS funtionality and the unit takes forever again to lock on. I've tried turning on WAAS via custom function 03. It turns on but WAAS is not shown in the screen with the accuracy in meters anymore. It still takes forever to obtain lock compared to the 2.03 firmware.

 

Anyone have any solutions? And can I revert to the ver 2.03 firmware? the 2.03 opens up WAAS and is really quick in locking your location.

The eTrex use a patch anntena - these do not perform well in tree cover. Get any GPS that does not use a patch anntenea and you will be better off (at least alittle better). I recommend the 60 or 60C or 60CS.

That is not true! The eXplorist line uses a patch antenna and it kicks butt in tree cover. Ask anyone who has cached with me. It routinely outperformed Garmin 60CS, Magellan Meridian and Sportraks on our last group outing (nearly 200 miles driven and 100 caches found). All those use the quadhelix antenna, said to be better under tree cover. I don't know what they did to make the patch antenna on the eXplorist line work so well under a variety of conditions, but they did a good job.

I concure with Marky. My Explorist 600 kicks butt in terms of satellite tracking. Under heavy tree cover, and steep slopes on one side and lots of giant ferns I get around 4 sats. Up on the mountains I easily get 9 to 10 sats and accuracy down to 5 meters without WAAS. I'm in Australia. I love my new 600.

[Explorist 600 Burn-in Test Failure]

It is not uncommon for computer equipment to be tested via a burn in test. Especially if it is new and you are going to rely on it in the field. The Explorist GPSr in my opinion is no different. It is afterall another piece of electronic equipment.

 

If it fails, then you know there's something wrong with it and should be retified. If it doesn't then you know you have a good set and can rely on it as it has passed the burn in test.

Hi all Explorist users,

 

I initiated a service function: Burn-in Test

 

ESC + PWR - to burn-in process

 

and obtained the following failure: RTC.

 

Does anyone know what this is? My guess is the real time clock. But my GPSr clock seems to be working.....

 

Has anyone else tried the function?

Note: If your GPS hangs, just take the battery out and try again.

Thanks for your input Buckskin. Just a couple of last ones before I go out and get myself one...

 

The battery on the Explorist is 3.7v but charging it with 4X1.5v batteries equals 6v. Wouldn't this overload the explorist?

 

Or do you actually require a higher voltage than 3.7 to charge the internal battery?

 

And does the exporist get 'hot' when its running off the battery pack?

Buckskin,

 

I too saw the unit from Boxwave, but don't you need a compatible multisync cable? Or are you just using the battery pack and plugging the USB connector into the y-connector cum USB cable supplied with the Explorist?

 

Please advise and I want to get the item from Boxwave too.
