Now I've read the page, and realize that I didn't do it right, so I've got to go back and do some things over before I post it to the site. Glad to know that some of you out there are supportive of us Newbies. Fox Just a suggestion. Do a goto and see how close your GPSr brings you to your cache. The coords you listed may be as close as it gets. Averaging is just that an average. The coords you took may be close enough and will save alot of time. I prefer to leave my GPSr sitting for a while at the cache site rather than average. It seems to work for me. No one has complained about my coords being off yet anyway. Just my 2 cents. 3. quote:Originally posted by Dwight J. Dutton: I thought it was a good deed to just do this... Now to be fair, the owner of the cache had stated they did not intend to replace it themselves as they thought it would just be plundered again. However someone before me had ALSO replaced it after it had been plundered, and the cache owner had nothing but praise for them. It was noted as lost again, so I also made a trip to replace it with somethign I thought would last. I got a rather unpleasant email from the person who originally placed the cache, after which he archived it. I didn't even show as having credit for finding it anymore. They had not edited the cache to make it a virtual one, though apparently it was their intent. If it had been formally changed to virtual I would have left it alone - if it had been archived I never would have seen it. As it was I drove 20 miles to do a good deed and got feedback quite a bit different from what I thought I would. http://custer37.livejournal.com/ Chalk it up to experience and forget it. It's hard to figure people out sometimes. I think you were just trying to do the right thing. ENJOY THE OUTDOORS

  5. I too normally don't mind a good hike of a mile or two but certain times I would like to be able to chose if i want to walk a great distance before I drive all the way to the nearest parking. I try to use maps before I get there but that is not always reliable. Right now I have three ruptured disks in my lower back and my wife just had knee surgery. So we are going to be looking for short walks in the future and would like to be able to identify them up front. ENJOY THE OUTDOORS
  6. quote:Originally posted by solohiker: I never really got into that brown nosing thing. Maybe that is another reason I hike solo. I always thought that brown nosing was kissing up for personal gain. Now thanking someone for their hardwork when there is no possibility of personal reward is much different and just socially proper when it's deserved. So I say (with nose not brown) THANK YOU JEREMY! Come to think of it I might have a brown nose....do BrownMules have brown noses? ENJOY THE OUTDOORS

  8. Tell me your just kidding. First no one should hide a cache anywhere on public lands that required you to have to hack your way in. If they did then I would not hunt it. As far as the machete goes, sit down an really think this one out. Using any tool to cut any vegetation on the way to a cache is the ultimate slap in the face of every respectable Geocacher. 12. quote:Originally posted by Warm Fuzzies - Fuzzy: I missed a step. You need to double-click the .reg files to install them in your registry. I can't believe I forgot to mention that... http://216.202.195.127/warm.gif Says "Specified file is not a registry script" Guess you were right about it not working with w9x ENJOY THE OUTDOORS

  14. quote:Originally posted by savagecachers: After lurking around these boards for a couple of months, I finally took my kids out for a "treasure hunt". We found the cache and had a great time in the process - hopefully we won't all have poison ivy tomorrow. If you have been lurking for a couple months as you stated, you have no excuse. You have witnessed others who have been warned about the addiction. Now you're hooked and it's all because you gave in to the peer pressure. Oh well, could be worse. You could be addicted to gambling. I bet your already looking at cool mods for you GPSr. Yep you have it bad and there is no cure. Have fun and welcome. ENJOY THE OUTDOORS

I think you need to call your local congressman and have them debate this in the next session right after they vote on whether to extend the now expired anti ballistic missile treaty. (Don't get mad just funning a bit. My advice is to forget it and keep on having fun.) ENJOY THE OUTDOORS

  20. Your right. You can not select and download more than 25 at a time and it has been a highly discussed issue. The alternative most folks use is to download as many as you want on each page and make separate loc files and then use Geobuddy to combine them into one file. Geobuddy is a free download at http://www.geobuddy.com. ENJOY THE OUTDOORS

  22. quote:Originally posted by DeO: I would like some input on placing caches while on vacation. I want to place a cache possibly on the resort grounds, any suggestions on the container type? I was thinking some sort of tupperware type, but I would assume that would have to be bought there. I was also mulling over the idea of micro caches, any suggestions other than film containers? I assume by your description "resort" this is going to be a privately owned and not publicly owned resort. So since you must obtain permission to hide the cache there by the resort owner or manager, why not ask them what they prefer you hide it in. ENJOY THE OUTDOORS
  23. Again we thank you. Just don't have it say CONGRATULATIONS after the search. There are some people that are touchy about that. hehehe. Just kidding. ENJOY THE OUTDOORS
  24. I have been involved in Geocaching for 5 short but rewarding months. A few of you know that I am a public lands manager but now since the subject of Geocaching in Florida State Parks has arisen, I think it is time to come out of the closet. I am a Park Manager with Florida State Parks and have been with the system for 26 years. I have been working at the field level to have a policy adopted for Geocaching in our parks. I have caches hidden in one of the parks that I manage now. I do think that we need guidelines to assure that Geocaching is done properly within our parks just as Jeremy has guidelines to manage the administrative functions of Geocaching on this site. I e-mailed PCBeach and asked for the name of the person who answered his letter so that I can give them a call. I was waiting for an official response from our Division on the subject so that I could address the issue further. I have spoke to several of our Bureau Chiefs and central office personnel about Geocaching and all I have spoken to support the game. ENJOY THE OUTDOORS
