(not to mention you are still in the patrol area of that State Trooper that put his car in the ditch looking for you on a "suspicious activity" report 20 mins ago! Here you are decked out in cold weather gear, snowshoes, geoswag, GPSr's fired an ready to roll, caching partner getting itchy and you can't park the car, because someone didn't type that extra line about winter conditions! I personally agree with Geo 100%, why you ask?? BECAUSE I WAS THERE WITH HIM THAT NIGHT! You should be thankful. Now you learned to bring a shovel when caching in the winter.
  2. quote:It's funny that you're manually editing the files to put that IN when just this morning I added an option to automatically take that OUT. :-) [snip] The diff, terr, container, and placer are all in the description. I am not manually editing it. I've made a script to do it. The field annoyed me as well, so I take my info from various fields instead. This way I can get a proper, well formatted CSV-file with just the information I want, and with proper headings in the information balloons in Mappoint. This is what it looks like. I would love to ditch my script and use GPSBabel, but only if it allows me to do such things.

  4. quote:S&T is allegedly one of those. If, for example, I run gpsbabel with -oxcsv,style=s_and_t.style, I get output that contains more stuff that S&T can presumably use: Name,Latitude,Longitude,Name 2,URL,Type GC989A,36.968817,-122.013783,Ocean View,http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=39066,"" GC3500,36.953583,-122.029917,Lighthouse Field,http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=13568,"" Actually Microsoft's mappoint variants (including S&T) isn't too particular about header names. In the script I mention above I use the following headers: Latitude Longitude Name Type Website However, I combine some of the fields from the GPX-file into each field in the CSV (comments in parenthesis): "55,762567" "12,946483" "GC9BB4 - Gillhög" - (Waypointname & Cachename) "Traditional Cache (1.5/1)" - (Type and difficulty) "http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=39860" You might be able to use this idea in GPSBabel?
  5. quote:Originally posted by VentureForth:When I converted my queries to comma delinated, I was only able to import three fields into S&T. Since I'm at work now and the program is at home, I want to learn as much as I can before I go home. You could try my script. It provides an easy way of making .csv suitable for Mappoint, Streets & Trips and Autoroute. It works with both loc-files and gpx-files, but gpx-files gives you more information in your maps (difficulty levels). Oh ... It is a VB-Script using regular expressions, so it requires a Windows machine with the lates Windows Script Host. [This message was edited by Nocturnal on February 12, 2003 at 07:25 AM.]

  8. quote:But look at D.C., now that's a joke. I'm sure everyone in America has learned all about the history there, simply from going to school. I somehow doubt that. Anyway, not all geocachers are Americans. Do you really mind that the tourists touring DC are able to do so simply by going for historical virtuals? I had a great time in London picking up virtuals and seeing a heck of lot that I'd never have seen as an 'ordinary' tourist. And no... A microcache is not necessarily better than a virtual.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Mr. Snazz:I have a pocket query to retrieve all of my found caches. It seems that caches which are currently unavailable (or archived) don't get retrieved. Should these caches be retrieved by the query, or should there at least be an option "include archived/unavailable caches"? Is there something I should be doing that I'm missing? This makes sense when it comes to found caches. I'm all for an extra checkmark.
  10. quote:GPX...BLAH! It sure sounds neat, but _NOTHING WORKS WITH IT_. Sure it does. You probably have a corrupt GPX-file.
  11. quote:Originally posted by Quetzalteco:On the subject of GPX files and manipulation, does anyone know of the gpxExchange plugin for MS MapPoint? Supposedly, it allows MapPoint to read GPX files directly. That would be really cool, no mods, conversions or imports. One file, allows access to maping software and formatted data on multiple platforms (PC and PPC). /cw I've made a script that converts one or more GPX-files into Mappoint/Autoroute/Streets & Trips cvs-files. It's available at my homepage
  12. quote:Originally posted by Ake S:Here is my attempt to view gpx files on the Pocket PC device. It is only tested on HP Jornada 568. It will only work on Pocket PC 2002. Hi Åke The app works extremely well, except one thing ... I can't get the hints links to work. Nothing happens when I click on them. Is this a bug?

  16. I have a problem with my Mobipocket pocket queries. After each cache's waypoint and name is a "(Xkm SW)". Very useful, if only the 'X' was not always zero. -- Per

  18. quote:Originally posted by DarrenF:...wouldn't it be easier on everyone the files were made available in that format right on the website? df To me the script is perfect. I use the .loc-files for uploading to the GPS and the converted files (which are converted simply by dropping the .loc-file on the script) for updating my website and my Mappoint file. I just wanted to share it in case someone else used Mappoint.
  19. Hi all I've made a conversion script for all of you who use Mappoint, Streets & Trips or Autoroute. It converts Groundspeak LOC-files to CVS-files suitable for importing. The script can be downloaded from my website.Download script Comments are welcome. If you'd like to see one of the uses for this script and Mappoint scroll to the buttom of this page.
  20. Okay. I was hoping I could take advantage of the much higher speed that USB offers, but if the Vista doesn't support higher speeds than 115.200, then I guess it's mute.
  21. Hi All Is there any speed advantage in getting a USB to Serial adapter and connecting the Vista via USB? Or is it just for people without serial ports?
