  1. If you have Microsoft Autoroute on your computer you can download Pocket Streets and export maps to your Mio . Using the push pin function you place the cache location onto the map and follow the arrow just as you would with Memory Map. It isn't as detailed but it does the job.

We have used it many times when caching in other countries.

  2. Thanks for your work in setting up the cache info along the canals. They will certainly make it easier for us as we move around the Inland Waterways.

Is it possible for you to include The Macclesfield and Peak Forest canals please

  3. You might try disabling your firewall. I run Zone Alarm and despite giving the relevent permissions as per active sync instructions some times my P550 will sync and other times it won't. However by disabling the firewall it works every time

    Worth a try

  4. We use onspeed cause living on a boat we don't have the use of broadband and our dial up via mobile phone is only 9600. Its like biking uphill backwards!! However since using onspeed it increases our speed by up to 5 times.

If we had broadband we probably wouldn't bother with it, but with such a slow connection for us it great and wouldn't be without it

  5. MrBlorenge noted a device which takes 4AA batteries and tricklecharges a PDA throughout the day. He linked to it, let me see if I can find where it was...

    Here

Yes, that's the same thing described by Rosie's Rangers and myself. It's much cheaper on eBay though. Typical BIN price £3.29.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. Have seen the battery extender on eBay per the link from Rosie's Rangers for just less than £3 and placed my order. Hope it comes soon

    Again thanks

  6. I bought a battery box from Radio Shack (there should be some electronics stores in the UK) that holds 4 AA batteries, and had a pair of wires for connecting to whatever. I use NiMH rechargeables in it, giving 4.8V. I cut off a USB extension cable, and used the female end to go into the box, allowing a standard USB cable to connect to it. You could use a connector to your PDA, but most people already have a USB cable for it, and that can connect directly to the battery box the way I did it. USB extension cables are widely available and cheap. The one I got was from a 'dollar store' here, and cost US$1, so I didn't worry about cutting it. I get several charges of the PDA from a set of NiMH batteries before I need to recharge them. The entire cost of the box and cable was <$US5, and I already had the batteries.

    Thanks for that Stan.

When using the usb cable to connect onto the battery box, which two of the wires do you connect onto the box because presumably there are several wires within the cable. Also would non recharge batteries be ok (6 Volt) as the normal charger says 5 volts. Would the extra volt be harmful to the pda

  7. I am using a Mio 550 together with Memory Map. when out for a days caching without returning to the car to recharge, the battery life isn't great and I constantly have to turn the pda on and off to conserve the battery. I'm sure that others must have similar problems as you can't change pda batteries as you would with a Garmin gps

Does anyone know of an external battery power pack to supplement the pda power, either to purchase or maybe even to make. Alternatively any other suggestions.
