Thanks for your suggestions but I don't fancy taking it apart to do the job myself as that's how I killed the first one. However have found a place in London called Sat Nav Repairs who have some good testimonials and have quoted £40 plus return postage so will give them a go

Try google - "Mio P560 hard case" You should find an aluminium case made by PDair for about £17.00. We've had a similar one on our 550 for three yrs now, its beautifully made, not too bulky and quite strong, excellent bit of kit! If it rains we always have a few ziploc bags with us to pop it all in, again no probs with water ingress so far.
Good luck!
It's a new screen that I want and not a case but thanks anyway. Perhaps I should get a case when it's repaired with my track record

Having just smashed my third Mio pda screen (P560) anybody know a reputable repair center please.
These screen problems are becoming a bit of a habit.

I Have one which I no longer need

Agree the battery life of PDA's is not great but I use an external battery supply (holds 4 x AA batteries). This is the one. It runs my Mio for about 5 hours. The new Mio P360 looks good (no wifi/bluetooth but otherwise same as the P560).
Chris (MrB)
I used to have a Mio P550 but now have a P560. The battery life is loads better on the P560 and so far have not had to use my battery extender.

I had thought in my ignorance that turning the button to off was a soft reset and using the stylus in the hole next to it was a hard reset. But as neither restore it to factory settings I must be wrong!
My husband thinks there must be a hole in the screen which has let the rain in.
I think I will have to bite the bullet and do the hard reset if there is no other way.
They don't like rain as I found out to my cost. The water gets in around the edges of the screen and then runs under the screen. Mine started to dry out but then came to a standstill and that was that with a frozen non working screen. Try keeping it in a warm place like an airing cupboard for a few days and lets hope that you have better luck than I did.
If all else fails try your home contents insurance

If you are having problems with gpx sonar, perhaps it might be worth a look at another program. I sometimes use Richesse GPS and have found it to equal gps sonar plus you get a arrow to follow similar to that on a garmin.

I use this little bit of freeware called 'Switch' which sits on the toolbar and allows you to quickly switch between programs and more importantly close them down (close properly and exit memory).

A brilliant little program noe installed on our pda
Thanks everyone for your input and suggestions. Having been out for a test walk this afternoon with pda in hand I have found the arrow does in fact appear when I am walking. However only when I walk fast. Does this mean that I will have to run to caches in the future?
Terry
Absolutely, nothing less than double time to each one
If you install the MMSirf file and run it you get two options, one for 'walking' and one for 'driving'. I set the walking one and also enable WAAS (hi resolution satellites - see my resource website for more details). The arrow is always there unless I actually stop dead. It appears as soon as I move (not running!).

Having now installed MMSirf and got it working, we can now go caching at a more leisurely pace. All that rushing around was making me feel quite ill. I knew with every ones help that I would get there in the end.
Thanks

Sounds like you need to change your static navigation settings.
What are static navigation settings and where do I find them please?

My arrow disappears when I stop walking but reappears when I start moving again....
Looks like I might be going for a walk this afternoon.

I have had this problem before.
Are you running MMSirf? If so try disabling it and re-enabling. That sorts it for me.
Good luck.
Jon
Thanks Jon
Don't think I have this installed unless it was preinstalled when I bought the pda. However SeaSGEE is preinstalled which is a "Quick GPS Position fix program with a Ephemeris file download that has to be downloaded and expires every 3 days. Maybe this might be creating the problem but I can't see any way to disable it

Having used both a battery extender and a Freeloader , my money in on the battery extender with a load of rechargeables. The Freeloader takes a very long time to charge using the sun but less time charging from usb. However over a period of time it hasn't held the charge particularly well and so now I rarely bother to use it.I think you know where you are with rechargeables in the extender and usually get two complete pda charges per set of batteries. It also costs less money

I am running Memory Map os-5 on a Mio P560 running WM6. The problem is that when trying to follow the arrow using “Goto Mark” the two boxes appear on screen, one showing eta and bearing/ distance etc .one for the folloe the arrow. However the arrow box remains empty. The arrow has appeared on occasions but then disappeared without trace. I have tried removing the program from the pda then reinstalling but this hasn’t helped.
I have run this without problems on a previous Mio P550 running WM5.
Any ideas please?

Do you have your notification coordinates set to your home coords?
I intentionally have mine set many miles to my west.
Having checked out the notification co-ords, some of them were not set to my home co-ords although they were originally and I am not aware that I changed them. So have now changed them and lets see what happens now. Fingers crossed

Don't know if it's just me but the mileage and direction on my instant cache notifications seems to have gone to pot. For example the notification states a cache to be 19.3 miles West from my home co-ords and the cache page states 22.1 miles East. This is happening on many of my notifications.
Is anyone else having this problem?

Hi everyone
Thanks for taking the time and helping.......however I still cannot connect.
The cable I am using is made by NIKKAI and it states on the box that drivers are not required for windows XP.
I have installed the PROLIFIC PL-2303 USB-to-serial driver OK and changed it to port COM1.
I have checked the GPS interface and it is set to GARMIN.
Try using another usb port. I have several usb ports on my laptop but not all of them will work with the usb/serial adapter.
-
I have just purchased a GARMIN ETREX H. The package included a cable to connect the unit to a serial port. My laptop does not have a serial so I purchased a serial to USB adapter cable
I have downloaded and installed the GARMIN USB drivers but I am unable to connect the unit to the laptop so that I can download co-ordinates from geocaching.
Can anybody help?
I think that you require usb to serial adapter drivers. This link might be helpful. You can then download the correct drivers after searching google but make sure that you get the correct ones according to your operating system as you need specific drivers for Vista.
Hope this helps
-
Create a new waypoint for your current location then edit that waypoint.
a bit of a fiddle or alternatively if you have a lead you can download all waypoints direct to your etrex from GSAK which is a far easier way.
Hope this helps

We are trying to set a PQ for "Caches Along A Route" Coventry Canal but after clicking on create a PQ am getting an error Message "Sorry! We encountered an error when requesting that page!" Have tried other canal routes and the same error applies.
We have used this feature before, sometimes succesfully, sometimes not. Is there a problem with this feature or are we doing something wrong?

I wonder if you could do one for certain canal routes - like the four counties ring?
Most of the four counties has already been done but in sections:-
Staff and Worcs - Aldersley Junction to Penkridge
Shropshire Union Canal - Autherley Junction to Norbury Junction
Shropshire Union Canal - Norbury Junction to Barbridge Junction
Shropshire Union Canal - Middlewich Branch
Trent & Mersey Canal - Middlewich to Hardings Wood
Trent & Mersey Canal - Hardings Wood to Etruria
Trent & Mersey Canal - Etruria to Great Haywood
The only part thats missing is Staffs and Worcs Penkridge -Great Haywood.

Sent the PDA for repair and boy what service. It was repaired within 3 hours of them receiving it and was back in our hands 2 days later. you can't get much better service than that. I now intend to let them carry out a screen repair on a previous pda
