  1. All good pictures but I really like the coloration of the jelly against the blue background.
  2. That would be incorrect. No caches allowed in National Parks and another lands owned and operated by the National Park Service (NPS). National Forests have no catch-all restrictions, however individual forests can enact their own rules as they see fit. Easy way to find out would be to call or email a local forest ranger. We cache heavily in the Los Padres, Angeles and San Bernardino NFs and are not aware of any such restrictions on geocaching. Plenty of caches in the Cleveland NF, as well.
  3. How many caches will be missing the next day? Perhaps that's another reason to go help! Of course, if J&J were involved, I'm certain that there'd be a few extra caches in the area once the day was done...
  4. I saw this and thought I'd pass it along in case anyone wanted to give back... You can download a flyer here: http://www.carlsbadca.gov/services/departm.../NPLD_FL_09.pdf National Public Lands Day Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Lake Calavera Come to this open space & trail clean-up as part of National Public Lands Day, the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. 5. Shouldn't that be 14K wows? Is a kwow anything like a shamwow?
  6. Anyone recognize this? I was walking back from "Gentle Waters" (GC1F7AG) when I looked down and saw the remains of a cache lying in the dirt. It was a nice magnetic Altoids tin once about a time. It seems vaguely familiar like a cache that I have found before. The pencil looks like one that I sometimes leave in caches...but that said, my logs don't show that I found a cache like this anywhere in the area.
  7. Honk! I know where it is because I can see the road to the dump. I'm going to wait until you all fill up that road with caches before I head up there... As for the peaks, (left to right) Cowles, Pyles, Kwaay Paay, South Fortuna and North Fortuna.
  8. OK, let's see...we can't let people into Tunnels (Del Mar Mesa / Deer Canyon) because it will harm the pristine environment. And we don't have enough money to patrol the area. Sooooo... ...why not start a pot farm? http://www.carmelvalleyleader.com/news/260...r-mesa-preserve
  9. Oh, the swagmanity! All the cachers screaming around here. I told you, I can't even talk to people whose travel bugs were in there. Ah! It's–it's–it's–it's ... o–ohhh! I–I can't talk, ladies and gentlemen. Honest, it's just laying there, a mass of smoking wreckage. I, listen, folks, I–I'm gonna have to stop for a minute because I've lost my voice. This is the worst thing I've ever witnessed..
  10. Tell us, Harmon...what is your secret for getting women to haul your stuff up the hills?
  11. I'm surprised that our resident lawyer did not point out the disclaimer which says: "Professional Stunt Cacher. Do not attempt."
  12. Lizard Rock Not the best lighting but sometimes you takes what you gets...those lizards weren't very cooperative.
  13. GeoCamera = Cannon PowerShot A1100IS, last of a dying breed that still features an optical viewfinder and is pocket-size for hiking. Also handles large memory cards. My choice for small geo-camera is the Canon Powershot SD700 IS About the size of a pack of playing cards Cannon optics (quality of the glass is crucial on these small cameras) Optical Viewfinder (The LCD just doesn't cut it for some shots) Image Stabilized (Also important on small cameras which just don't have enough mass to keep them statically stable. The SD700 isn't made any more but you can find its successors. Many of the photos that I've posted on the Critters thread were taken with this camera.
  14. Father, why is the white truck trying to drag the jeep into the sand pit?
  15. Stopped by Max's today. Plenty of Skillet cards left (no misprints though ) Also, there are quite a few Ginger cards still available.
  16. Given the significance of this place, I was hoping to drop Ginger cards into more caches today but unfortunately the majority of the caches in this area are too small... ...but I was able to drop the following: 1x TNG #1 and 1x GMS #4 into Only One Cylinder Firing 1x TNG #3 and 1x GMS #3 into Hills Were Made for Caches 1x TNG #4 and 1x GMS #5 into Romancing L'os (Redux) 1x TNG #5 and 1x GMS #2 into South of Sycamore On a separate note, I saw a Condorman and a Harmon card in Runnin’ With The Pack – Boulder Mountain yesterday.
  17. They sure got some funny looking horses in Nevada...I wonder if it could be some of that nuculer testing we used to done out there...the cache is Ponderosa.
  18. I've got some of those...what cache would you like to find them in?
  19. Love this shot. It brings to mind the paint job on another precision flying team...
  20. Having driven in the UK and Belgium and having experienced the joys of navigating by map through on endless strings of roundabouts -- where it's easy to lose track of which roundabout you are on (Honey, was that the 5th or the 6th?) and where, if you take the wrong exit, you can become hopelessly lost -- I will gladly take up the title of "clueless numpty". On our last trip to the UK, we took our StreetPilot. Being told clearly which exit to take as we approached the roundabout was a vast improvement over the "old way" (which generally involved frustration, yelling and gnashing of teeth...) And, after being told to "Turn Left on Road" (not numbered road -- A45; not named road -- Maiden Lane; but just "Road") and having experienced 10 miles of farm track that barely qualified as "road" we can say that we visited a scenic part of North Yorkshire that most tourists (or anyone for that matter) will never see. (And it really was the fastest way to Newcastle...)
  21. Personally If I new you had most of them I would have loved to take some. I guess I will have to follow you around once you start leaving them in caches. Maybe we can work something out
  22. The LLOTs won a deck of the TNG cards today at the Geo-Bowl. There were a few misprints that we had missed out on so it was welcome prize. Most of the deck, though, are duplicates of cards we already have, so... ...there may be some Yrium cards that find their way into caches soon...
