  1. So how do you find the cache to switch out swag yet not find the cache? If you stated this I unfortunately did not pick it up in the reading. Anyhow, did you find the log? From what you stated you went to the same place as he did based on his log. With that said I take it you did not find it as well yet took the jeep. Who knows I could just be reading it wrong.
  2. On one mine caches a cacher noted that the cache was left open. So I figured since they made a nice post to remark that it was open that it would be closed. Well I went to the cache to make sure nothing was wet inside to find that the cachew was still open.
  3. For $10,000 U.S. Dollars per cache I will personally verify any cache witch seems to be unsecure and will be happy to give it my review. What will that do…. Well beets me but I might end up agreeing with you…… or not. Oh forgot to say 5 cache min request.
  4. I love it... This topic comes to life again.....
  5. This most entertaining post I read in some time.
  6. While I myself been in some tough places, when I'm traveling I don't know what each area is like. I would not be to please if I showed up in such places with walking stick and geocaching gear. Talk about sticking out like a sore thumb. Yes caches should and can be in such areas but some note should possible be posted. This unfortunately leads down another path that can be taken too far and perceived by others as some sort as label on people. It’s no win win situation.
  7. There are quite a few caches out there that need to have NM log so reviewers can tell if it’s being ignored by the owner and can archive it. Marking a found with a note to owner does not let the reviewers know that the cache is being ignored. I think it makes for great accountability. Granted it can be abused by someone who goes around and just thinks a cache not up to their high standards of perfect but for those caches that are amounting to nothing more than a garbage can in the woods it worth it.
  8. What if your 1st cache was a regular instead of some private property assisted by appointment cache?
  9. Hate to make a second post but you also pointed out that some people don’t like micros or virtuals and they can decided not to do those. So how does one filter your cache out from the rest of the regular caches? I can see it now on the PQ choices that there will be selections for: Caches with appointments Caches with out appointments Caches that require a TB drop Caches that only SUV owners can log Caches that are can only be found by a group of 4 or more Caches that are only for single cachers Caches that are only for married cachers Caches that are for married cachers with children Caches to meet people in the dark in the woods for 1st time And as for the other cache that is a TB hotel that needs an appointment what is the difference then if I just tell people that they have to come to my house at specific times by appointment to retrieve a TB. This cache should be shut down as well.
  10. I don’t like the idea as well. Most of the time I don’t even read the caches description until I am on sight. So, if I was on a trip I would not know your condition until I got there. While this is a small reason it is my first reason for not liking it. Second, If it is your land how is it going to be muggled? And if you are so concerned about its condition and contents then check on it once or twice a week, or after every log. Simply how would you like it if every state park or cache you WANTED to visit had you check in prior to going to it and assigned you a guide? Also you stated you give live hints. That means you will be going with them during the hunt… Simply do what I and others do. Check your cache often.
  11. While I’m totally able body person I’ve been to a few caches myself that I thought were totally wrong to be set to a terrain of 1. While it is up to the hider to set the terrain difficulty the reviewer in my opinion always ask the hider if their cache truly meets what lvl 1 means – Handicap accessible. I say this for I been on a few lvl 1 terrain caches that in the last 15 feet no way can a handicap person actually get to the cache. Granted the trip to the location of the waypoint is level or paved but the cache is 10 feet down a 70 degree slope or 7 feet up on a sign. Also, a 1.5 ratting still should be Handicap accessible but more like crossing a yard in that not been cut in 2 weeks. (best example I could think of atm)
  12. 3609756 08612348 GCW78K Being the only info the sticker, this would be no larger than a simple address label. It would not be noticed by a large majority of people on the back of a sign not to mention a maintenance worker (Didn’t know stop signs get much maintenance) would probably assume that this was some county, or manufacture marking. But as you said is it defacing. Well I lean to both ways and have no set answer – part me says yes while the other says only defacing if people notice and so many people are oblivious to their surrounding that no one would notice.
  13. I don't either. Neither should be logged. I addended the event and that is the only log I need. I realize that and that's fine. Lately, I just attend events for the social aspect as well. However, there seems to be enough interest from other people that a feature like this might be welcomed. Just like anything else, nobody can force you to log it if it's there, but just because you don't want it doesn't mean that other people don't as well. That's why I suggested that, like the benchmarks on the stats page, these "finds" would be shown, but not included in the "total finds" calculation. So even if you attend the "GeoUniverse 2006 Mega Event" and find the 80 temp caches that were there, your find cound would only go up by the one - the "attended" log for the event. I like that idea -- allows people to log events temps, people, or participation in a goal or contest. It tracks their stats but does not count to over all finds.
  14. IMO.... I’m going to stand behind JamieZ on his post. While there might only be a few caches in the area they are not being maintained. I can assume the owner no longer responds to emails on the Virtuals if he’s not been on GC.com in 2.5 years. Regardless of how someone sees it as a guideline or rule they should be archived and removed from the system. The GC.com system was not meant to keep broken, lost and unresponsive listings active just “because”. If you feel that these caches are in great place that should have some notability do what I and others have been told. Utilize Waymarking.com
  15. There are a lot of micros and I think anyone who says there is not is just reluctant to see it. I however don’t think they are completely taking over regular caches. As pointed out many times people in urban areas can only hide micros since there are only a limited amount of places for a regular cache. At some point or another, the increase in micros was bound to happen. I live in the country so most my cache finds and hides are regular. But I have 1 Micro cache that I am proud to have even in the country. With written permission a historical society let me place a micro cache on an actual listed historical site. While I’m bias in this example, this to me is a great use of a micro (GCV0RX).
  16. What I find shameful is that I constantly hear about how geocaching community is made up of respectable people and only trying to enjoy the outdoors. Such pitches are made to DNR and other government agencies to get them to approve of geocaching. This is another bad mark for geocachers and as someone stated before in this thread or another we are judge by the bad few not the majority. While this is currently known to the gc.com people it only a matter of time tell people see the places that were basically vandalized by geocachers.
  17. I personally don’t care what people do to get their numbers up. I only use the stats mainly for two things. 1st. Being to keep record of what I do. I have my own standards on what and how I will log a cache, TB, and coin. If other cachers standards are not like mine so what. Mine are for me. 2nd. The only part I look at other cachers numbers is when it come to a DNF on one of my caches. If someone marks one my caches with a DNF I do look at their numbers to establish whether or not the DNF indicates a possible lost cache. What do I mean – if someone with less than 50 caches DNF one my caches I will only take that as they are a beginner and nothing more than they could not find it. If a more seasoned cacher DNF my cache I will prompted to go check the cache. Now beginner or not, multiple DNF always gets a check. Do I care that John Doe has 1500 finds and he got 250 over the weekend? NO.. Do I think that it can “cheapen” the sprit of the sport? Yes Do stats matter? Yes and no – does not matter personally but I have too have something to gauge ones experience when they say they had/have a problem with a cache. Like I said I have my own rules I follow and expect no one else to follow and hold nothing against others that don’t. Short example: I will not log a Geocoin that I actually don’t move. I have seen many Geocoins at events where I could have taken the numbers and log the coin as seen. But I decided for my own stats I wanted to know how many I have moved not seen. If others log every coin they have seen then good for them that’s their choice. Currently in one my caches there is a geocoin that I have not had or seen. The temptation to go to my own cache and grab the coin to move is very tempting but I won’t since I would not truly consider that as a found coin or one given to me to move. More than likely when someone finds the cache I will never see the coin in the area again. Oh well.. But I think for my own rules and count that I want to keep that getting the coin out one my caches is wrong. Do I care if others do that – not at all. My rule for me. My main point in the whole stats thing is most numbers mean nothing. But at same time I need to utilize to those numbers to establish someone experience and if they padded or what ever you want to call it their numbers then I unfortunately I’m mislead.
  18. I only hope that the person placing the cache is able to maintain it or has arranged for a local cacher to take care of it. Other wise I would see that as a violation by placing a cache while on a trip. My .02
  19. Those who get lost will have to make sure they have a cache on them. :-)
  20. Will trade 1 WGA Geo-campout 2006 for Moun10bike V3 or Compass Rose Gold 2006
  21. I spent most of this past Sunday with a shovel, hatchet and ax trying to remove shrubs and saplings that have gone astray on my property. Took me three hours of work when all I really needed was a thumb tack. The ideas posted have been done and I think they are still good. But a larger cache in a good spot I would say is still better.
  22. Neodymium rare earth magnets amazing magnets sells them.
