  1. Closing topic at the request of the OP
  2. Hi Since I am the reviewer that has now published your cache I'll fill you in on the process. The 1st thing you need to know is that all reviewers are volunteers from the caching community so we are not always available to review the caches in our queues. So, please be patient with us. The 2nd thing you need to know is that we have 3 days from when you submit the listing to begin the review process. Publication can take a little longer depending on whatever issues may come up. I hope this answers your question. If you have any further questions about the review process please feel free to email me from my profile. 4. Ah the usual Sunday slowdown. Everyone in the UK and Europe is logging finds and the Americans are waking up and running PQs. Stick with it and you'll get there in the end.
  5. That listing will only be activated if you upload it under your username
  6. I am closing this topic as we have a pinned thread with advice about cache trashers. Also a couple of earlier replies overstepped the mark by a long way. 7. Geoawareuk resigned a while ago for personal reasons. I can't say whether or not we are going to have our own geoaware again because I simply don't know. What I can say is it won't be me. Please continue to work with our American bretheren as they're doing us a massive favour. Thanks guys (if you're reading this). 8. The best way to get a PQ of your own caches is to create a bookmark list and run the PQ off that. Paul Geohatter Volunteer UK Reviewer & Forum Mod for geocaching.com UK Geocaching Information & Resources website www.follow-the-arrow.co.uk Geocaching.com Knowledge Books

  10. Not on any cache I review. Mentioning a business when describing the location of the cache is OK as there is no agenda apart from directing cachers to the cache. If that's all you say then I'd publish. If you then went on to promote the pub then I'd ask for a re-write. It is left to us. We use common sense but in most cases people are being blatant in their violations so we have no choice but to rule against. The reorganisation of the guidelines was prompted by the fact that cachers couldn't make sense of them and have been known to argue the toss with the reviewers because their interpretation was different. 14. I had this one on a local cache. 'Think of Cotton, but not Dot' I chuckled but my caching patner didn't get the reference.
  15. Here's a list of all UK reviewers. However, you don't need to contact anyone. When you submit the lising on GC.com it goes into a queue that we all monitor. 16. Can you please clarify what you mean??? Did your friend say that the review process has been mothballed or that we've all taken a day off??? If he said that the review process has been mothballed, then no, he's feeding you a line. If he said that it's just for today, also no. I have to wonder where he's got that from. What does he think is going to happen from now on??? 17. We have a great deal flexibility and discretion when it comes to the saturation guideline. I know I have published caches that were less than 528 ft from another cache. It all depends on the circumstances. While I agree that guidelines are not rules, but there is a limit to how far you can push them. Unfortunately, in the OP's case, 277ft would be pushing it too far without a canyon or river with no direct route across(or some other impassable boundary). I have to echo the comments from my colleagues regarding the OP's conduct in this matter. Thank you for being so polite and keeping it together. I have seen people on the forums explode for far less. Please don't be disheartened by your experience and keep looking for that great spot to hide a cache. 18. Anyway, back on topic. My personal feelings about it are that Garmin made a mistake in releasing the beta version of the site the the global audience. By doing this they created a flurry of activity that quickly died when people realised that the current incarnation wasn't the complete site and was full of bugs. They will now have to do something spectacular with the release of the full, all singing all dancing version to get the committed membership they need.
  19. I can assure you that Groundspeak's recent development of GC.com was not prompted by OC.com and has been on the cards for quite some time. The changes they've made required a lot more development time than the month or so that actually passed between OC.com opening it's doors and the GC.com site upgrade. I admit the timing looks suspicious so I can see where your assumption comes from, but it is just a major coincidence. If there is something you've seen on another site that you'd like to see here please post a topic in the feedback forum and it will be given serious consideration. 20. Hmm.... so you are saying peers can actually review caches, and that peer review actually works even here at the lilly pad, even when the REAL reviewers fail (in the sense they miss something) All cachers are encouraged to report questionable hides. If a CO lies on the submission and there's no evidence of that when we review it there's nothing we can do but publish. It cannot be classed as a fail because we can't miss what isn't there to be found. 21. Looks like some kind of intermittent fault. I've had it a few times this morning but seems to be working for me now.
  22. This much I agree with I already knew the workload and had received my fair share of grief as a mod. It basically comes down to 'Who are they?', 'What are they like?', 'How insane are they?', 'Do we think they can do the job?'
