  1. I don't see how this negates a little social responsiblity and prudence - Grafitti is an activity that is predominantly unlawful - why is Groundspeak allowing the 'promotíon' of such. I also don't think for one minute that anyone is ignoring the existance of anything! The family friendly idea is circling the drain somehow!!
  2. As I stated in my first comment on this thread - there is already an established category called 'Murals' which could have adequately covered or incorporated any form of ART done on or in a public or private establishment that is not vandalistic or unlawful in nature or intent. I still fail to see the need for a category of Grafitti which undeniably has the conotation of being unlawful and an act of vandalism for the most part. The part that isn't should go into the murals basket. Why don't don't we go ahead and submit a category for Pyromaniacs - I mean not all fires involve arson do they. or better still lets have a waymark category for Chop-shops - I mean not all vehicle modification business's are bad but if we do label it Chop shops - we will soon sort out who is legit and who are crooks. Bollocks!!!
  3. I have to say I find it a bit disconcerting that Groundspeak have allowed the Graffiti category to be established. Grafitti (tagging) is for the most part an activity, that despite any artistic merits, is against the law and an act of vandalism. Already there is a category for ' murals' which covers the idea of having art on the sides of buildings etc and would be permissible and not vandalistic in nature or intent. Waymarking/Groundspeak seriously need to take another look at this Grafitti category I believe and consider what it is they are actually trying to promote!
  4. Ultimate GPS = one that you can type in the co-ordinates you want and then when you push 'goto' it converts to a Stargate!
  5. Seemingly this is a known problem by Garmin as well!
  6. I'm getting a bit lost with this thread and it seems that the issues and points being brought up are rather limited themselves in scope a little. To me it does not matter who manages a category or what country - be it the US or Botswana. The point is if the category itself has variables or criteria to meet then the category can be as international or localized as anyone wants. Is it biased or inappropriate of me ( a New Zealander living in Saskatchewan - 3000kms from the nearest ocean) to manage the categories of shipwrecks. No! because who cares where the manager comes from - the fact is it is a category open to any shipwrecks. Now if someone wants to have historic landmarks particular to a state or region then so be it. If someone else has a bug up their butt over it then they have every opportunity to propose a category of the same nature without regional variables or criteria. Maybe I am seeing this whole issue from some distorted angle! But the problem lies, I think, in not the regional variable of particular categories but rather in the lack of response and establishment of waymark category proposals being put forward. And as Jeremy from Groundspeak has duly pointed out previously - this lack action and movement is actually intentional therefore I guess we just have to sit on our hands and wait out what Groundspeaks intentions are - which when all is said and done is their perogative - I don't much like it either and find it frustrating - but it is still their perogative and one would hope when the chaff has been threshed in all this that there was reasonable logic in the way that Groundspeak have run the site lately. And in view of the frustrations that are being vented I would hope that Groundspeak aren't shooting themselves in the foot in the way they are fullfilling some of their projects and objectives for Waymarking.com - I guess time will tell.
  7. Good point - I can't say I had thought about Blue tooth but it certainly begs the question........!!
  8. I think if you do a little homework prior to going on a flight - it may be helpful in establishing GPS usage on a flight - but I have found myself , it can depend on who you get on the day as I have been told "no" by both WestJet and Air Canada. Air New Zealand tend to have an aversion to them as well - but as I said it can be quite dependant on who you ask on the day. That being said mind you, I have gotten a good lock on a window seat with a patch antenna in the past. I wonder how it'll go with the new SIRF recievers - as judging from comments from users of these GPS units they seem to work pretty well when wandering around a Walmart store so I imagine that from within the fuselage of an Aircraft should be able to get a lock OK and you could have your GPS in luggage switched on and nobody would be the wiser. I have actually yet to see any evidence whatsoever that GPS units affect the electronics of any aircraft, ship, radio telemetry or nuclear silo whatsoever. Maybe someone could point me to some evidence that it does - I would be interested to hear! But it all seems pretty hyped over really, as if there was a definitive risk then I am quite sure ALL airlines would have a blanket ban on the things - which clearly there isn't.
  9. I quite like that Wikipedia link! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beating_a_dead_horse
  10. Burkina Faso - hmmm now theres a thought Chstress, - thank you. Yep! the USA bias thing is becoming old news and seems is being fueled by those with little shoulder chips. Lets knock this discussion on the head - I think those who wanted to make a point have made it so lets stop flogging a dead horse!
  11. I think if I read my original proposal 50X over I still don't think I could manage to get out of it any insinuation whatsoever that it was going to be a US only category. But I guess now that it has been brought up - I could make it specific only to Orkney Island in the North Atlantic!
  12. I wasn't, on my last quote, agreeing or disagreeing regarding the American biased discussion, but rather brought up the seeming lack of inactivity as a side issue - but point taken - it's intentional, therefore enough said!
  13. Those pics are sooooo cooool ! But ya gotta be in the USA for thems sorts of pics.
  14. Breaking down the types would be good - but it gets my thumbs up this suggestion.
  15. I suggested this some time ago seeing as how there was a category called Lodgings i think it is. When i suggested it i thought about breaking it down into subs of Bed & Breakfasts, Hostels/Backpackers, Farmstays, Outfitter/Hunting Lodges. I hope this gets listed!
  16. I would see this category containing waymarks from sites, buildings & places mentioned in the bible with a photo if possble of the current day site and the relevant bible verse that refers to the site. Your thoughts would be appreciated!
