  1. When, what time and where do we meet?

Not sure yet. Just seeing how much interest there is.

Plus I think this weekend there is a McGinty outing...right?

Sunday is the McGinty, I am in search of numbers.....11 til 400 and then next is 500.

  2. OK YOU LONG TIME CACHERS>

I went to log a travel bug that I got yesterday out in the desert......only to find that the last place it was logged was in Del Mar. How do I properly take it and move it to the next place?

    1. Go to the travel bug page and grab it.

    2. Post a note to the cache page where you found it and drop the bug in the cache.

    3. Delete your note on from the cache page (the bug will stay in the cache).

    4. Go to the travel bug page and retrieve it from the cache you put it in.

    5. Delete the log on the travel bug page where you grabbed it in step 1.

    Done

Thanks Rocketman. I will do that as I want the journey to be there.

  3. I don't have the story yet but something happened at the new Ghost of Cypress Creek cache.  The cache page warns against such things but I think its OK to say it again...stay away from storm drains immediately before and after a rain.  I hope the guys are OK.

WARNING! Do not attempt this cache today. Due to the rain and a sudden flash flood in the tunnel, two geocachers, D-Jollymon and Passing Wind are hurt. They are both a little banged up and are recovering but should be back soon. Once again, please do not attempt this cache while it is raining.

I think D-Jollymon's first line sums it up..."FTF fever beat out common sense". It looks like it took more than a band-aid but no permanent injuries. I'm glad that they're OK

    Dan,

FTF fever beat out common sense and put Jason and I in the ER. J got

10 stiches, bruised tailbone and swollen ankle. I have a bad gash on my

butt and my hands and legs are beaten pretty bad. I have to go back to

acute care tomorrow morning to see if I need a tetnus shot.

Dang.....PW and I shoulda went to your event and we wouldn't have gotten into

this adventure!! Thanks for checkin up on me. Sorry I didn't get back

sooner but I passed out while waiting in the ER. Dang percocet. Have a

    happy New Year!

I was hoping no one would try. I went and looked at the start of the tunnel yesterday during the rains and it was just pouring out of the opening. No way to get in that is for sure. I AM GLAD THE GUYS ARE GOING TO BE OK.........thanks Dan-oh for passing this on.

  4. .

    3.  And this is the most important,,,,TODAY IS SPLASHETTE'S BIRTHDAY!!!!!  LOOKIN' GOOD GIRLFRIEND!

    Don't know about #1. I prefer skirts.

Yes, Happy Birthday, Splashette. So are you and $kimmer and Harmon taking a trip to The Womb today in commemoration of #39? :)

    -GD

Happy Birthday Splashette, The Womb......do it, do it.

A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY SPLASHETTE!!!!!!! :):lol::lol:

  5. Ok, Harmon, you can put the Just Kidding! cache container back now!

Wow! not guilty. We left the container just as found at the very base of the tree covered by three really obvious river stones. No Muggles in sight either. Maybe the other team had a little cocktail at lunch and, by the way, they didn't log a joke so they are already under suspicion. We were there at about one-ish I think.

    Hmmm...

    Mystery solved?

I knew we did not overlook it!!!!!! That darned bird........... :D :

  6. Thought I would share this little Kestral's portrait.  It displayed some serious mojo as I was hiking up the west side of Black Mountain yesterday morning to wrap up a caching year.

The best of caching wishes in the coming year.

    Wow! Great photo Don! :D

It seemed to be a birding kind of week. Here is a juvenile Red-tailed Hawk I encountered on my hike to Chimney Rock the day before.

Thanks for Smilinglady13, Condor Man, Shorty, John and Duganrm for coming to the SD Tunnel Rat "meeting". We had a blast!

    I have a few pic at http://danoh.smugmug.com/gallery/1087310

YOu got some good pics.......I told you we would have sold your camera to the first passer by there in the tunnel........butttt......nOOOOO........HAHAHAHAHA :D:D There were so many down there ......HAHAHA

  8. Ok, Harmon, you can put the Just Kidding! cache container back now!  P.S. What's the answer to your joke?

Wow! not guilty. We left the container just as found at the very base of the tree covered by three really obvious river stones. No Muggles in sight either. Maybe the other team had a little cocktail at lunch and, by the way, they didn't log a joke so they are already under suspicion. We were there at about one-ish I think.

And the punch-line is ... there's more of 'em.

    Harmon & Sandy

We were there rather late and we looked under those very stones......i am guessing whoever kept taking the other ones took this one.......sigh.....As soon as I saw who was there before us I KNEW.......just KNEW in my bones......what had happened. You got way to dizzy with all that ballet in those lovely leotards and just twirled the cache right out a there!!!!!:blink::P

  9. Going to the desert on Sunday......

For those of you who want to torment yourselves a little more some of us are heading to the desert tomorrow.......I will be at the park and ride at Main and Marshall just off the I-8 to the south at  0800 (8am to non-military) and we will be at the Ramona  K Mart Park and Ride at 0900. We will stop to pick up Duganrm and Rogue.

Join us if you would like.......we are aiming for the Blair valley ones as we were not at the campout a few years ago.

Shoot! You're going right through my neck of the woods and I can't go. I have to go to a family function. (A five year old's birthday at Nickle City)

WOW tell the lucky 5 year old........happy birthday!!!!!!

Congratulations PassingWind on 600 on Villager. I just want to know how those legs feel today??? Good Job.

    Thank you. It was epic.

Congrats you 2 on being the FTF for Villager......WOW.......and you did it in a very fast time. AND THE BEST PART IS....YOU GUYS CAN STILL WALK!!!

    CONGRATS

  12. I hear you; it must be especially frustrating for dial-up users who have to wait for the page to refresh only to read nothing helpful.

That too, but I was actually thinking of the ones that take the hint and decrypt it at the cache.

I learned right from the start not to do that....... ;)

  13. *By the way Chuy, the trail out to Old Glory is quite a bit above the water.

    Kool, is it bike-able?

Note to prospective Villager Peak hikers; Passing Wind has indicated he is planning the hike on Friday. That deflates my ambition as I was interested in the FTF. I still want to do the hike some day, but I would rather not "shake" things too much at home if the FTf is unavailable.

I'm now thinking of driving down the 94 to Tecate and start working on Night Hunter's caches, as well as the Subterranean cache. I will most likely only be able to cache through noon. You know what that means... I'd like to start no later than 6a.

This is still somewhat in the air. What complicates things further is that I just found out one of our neighbors is getting a masectomy on Friday. We are a very close neighborhood; so, I may be playing Daddy daycare if the Mrs' decide to get together.

Let me know if you go, Chuy. I'm in. Since I normally get up at 4:30 anyway, 6 or earlier is fine with me.

    -----------Snake.

This is on Monday.......right? Sure hope so as I would like to tag along.......love doing the caches.....keeps me on my feet!!!! Next marathon........I'm not sure but I will be ready :o

  14. The official San Diego Tunnel Rat meeting is now called to order!

    redx.jpg

    Saturday December 31st, 8am

    32°56.262, 117°6.080

also know as Scripps Poway Pky @ Scripps Summit Dr

Adjacent Carl's Jr for your dining "pleasure" if you missed breakfast.

PassingWind and I will be exploring one of the longest tunnels in north San Diego, possibly 1-2 miles, and finding a good spot for a cache placement.  The pic is from the tunnel entrance that I scouted with my kids...girls 13 & 10 years old!  You can't be scared if a 10 year old girl will go, can you?  :o

Bring 2 light sources (head lamps are great!), snacks or a lunch, shoes that you don't mind getting wet, holy water, garlic and anything else that wards off the spooks.  I'm bring my camera tripod this time to get some cool pictures, un-blurry pictures.

You can email me for more info or for my cell number.

Are you still planning on doing this?

Yeah, we're still on. I'm not 100% sure who all is coming but I'll be there at 8am. Final call on weather will be made that morning. Some weather reports have the rain starting Saturday PM into Sunday so I'm hoping its OK.

Email me for more info or my cell number if you wanna call the day of.

Unless there is a group doing Stone Ruination I am going to come do this with you all. I figure there are about a million caches up there I havent gotten so if your event is cancelled then I can go and find the above ground ones.

  15. About 2 years ago I was hiking Iron Mountain with a group of people. One of the guys had a GPS and was doing "something" with it. Me being naturally nosey went and asked about it. Although us nosey types were not allowed to touch his GPS nor his found cache I did learn about it. Did not acutally get my own GPS until early this year between then and now was going with different friends who did it.

And the rest is history.......I love it.

  16. I'm now thinking of driving down the 94 to Tecate and start working on Night Hunter's caches, as well as the Subterranean cache.  I will most likely only be able to cache through noon.  You know what that means... I'd like to start no later than 6a.

What day are you thinking of doing this?

I've been discussing the weather issue with Snake and Rooster and Duncan. The current forecast calls for 60% chance of rain from the coast through Jamul, then drops to 20% east of there. East of there would cover most of Night Hunter's caches.

As long as it don't rain much, you can drive on most of the dirt roads down yonder as most are hard packed. We'll just have to wait and see how the weather changes.

I have also introduced the idea of heading up to Temecula if it rains as I don't mind micros in the rain as many are on the streets within a few steps of parking.

    We'll keep you posted.

Just put down when (day of week) and where to meet ........I am assuming the time is 6a no matter what  and that is fine with me.
