  1. Just catching up on the mail, and a creepy crawly was in the pile. Mahalo!
  2. It's great to see people using this thread for its intended use. Please lets keep the debates on the other threads and let's use this one just for posting these coins.
  3. If possible post pix too! (if anyone needs help let me know)
  4. I guess that may be the bottom line. We all have a different moral compass we try to live by. (The emphasis is added for myself, since I fall short of my own expectations frequently!) Where I may look at my promise to never sell a coin as binding as a legal contract...others will not have the same compunction to do so. Maybe the lesson here. Find out how a person feels before trading or gifting to them, and if it's not to the standard you keep, then don't do it.
  5. I think most would agree that if you are in dire need you do what you need to, that's an argument that you're pretty much arguing all by yourself, as very few, if any would disagree with that. It's the rest of the time that is being discussed here, and that's when integrity comes in.
  6. I would say it's not wrong as well, and yes, I would pass along the do not sell clause, as that was the original wishes. What the next person does is up to them, but you stayed true to the request. There are plenty of people you could trade it off to who would respect the wishes of the original owner, so I'm sure you'd have no trouble making the trade with a trustworthy person.
  7. Ok, finally found a picture of our personal coin, not sold or traded, only found in caches, and would like to keep them as a not for sale coin.
  8. Off from another topic, here it is..... If you have a coin that was never for sale and you would like to see it that way for all time list it here. Maybe one day it will be pinned, but if not at least we can refer back to it when the need arises. This is not meant for debate, there are plenty of other threads out there for that. So... if you don't like the idea, feel free and go post that somewhere else, this thread is for people who would like to note that they don't want/like their coins (or others if you know for a fact) to be sold.
  9. I know there aren't many of them on here, but please make sure that anyone under 18 has permission from a parent or guardian before you publish their address.
  10. For some people the answer would be yes. For anyone who hates the topic so much and thinks it's beating to death then why come in and continue to beat it yourself?????? Go find another topic, leave this one for the people who actually still feel like talking about it. And spare me the misty eyed yap, that's the best argument you could think of? Change can be good, but not always, and I just don't see how people's loss of respect for one another can be a good thing.
  11. I think a do not sell request list would be great. If you don't care and want to sell then that's your right, but for those who want to hold true to the original owners/makers wishes it would be great to have a reference point.
  12. I was having coffee with a friend this morning (who is not a cacher or coin collector) and telling her about this "issue". It lead into a great conversation about the deeper meaning that is rooted for some of us. The Miss Manners version, that someone took the time and thought to get you this item and it is absolutely not ok to sell it off (this was something that had always been accepted in past generations). We have become a throw away society where we hold little dear to us, gifts, marriage, friendships included. It's not about the coin per se, but what the coin represents, in this case, friendship. It doesn't matter whether it's a 50 cent friendship bracelet made of yarn, a 5 dollar coin or a 5 thousand dollar diamond, they mean something. Sure, if you're in need, you sell it, but generally if you are friends the person knows you're in need and it's a non issue. I think this is more about how people value and perceive their relationships with one another in here way more than it being about coins. I think people are shocked and some are hurt to find out that the friendship they thought they had cultivated really meant nothing.
  13. That's a very good way of verbalizing it. True, but no physical object can truly represent it. Sure it can, what's a wedding ring represent? It's a physical object with a whole lot of meaning.
  14. That's a very good way of verbalizing it.
  15. Please elaborate. It's a compliment, I'm sure C4 understands as do the rest of the people who know him.
  16. I think the best thing to do is live life the way you feel good about. If you feel that their feelings should be taken into consideration, then do so. There are a lot of differing opinions on values and how they're perceived in here. You're not going to change their mind and they're not going to change yours. Learn from it and associate and/or disassociate yourself with those groups. I personally am more than tired of all they people preaching "care about other people" that then come out and spread such hatred it's mind boggling. I know who I am, my friends know the kind of person I am, the rest I could care less about, they're not worth it. Just the same, I know the type of person you are, and so do a lot of others, rest easy with that.
  17. Now why'd u go and do that prntr????!!! As to the OP, you know where I stand. Though I would also agree, set them aside for awhile and make sure it's permanent burnout and not just temporary.
  18. Drill em and set them free. This way the only people who have them are truly the volunteers.
  19. 2400 miles, also a vacation. Just for caching-500 miles
  20. Not sure how long ago that was, but TNF clothing doesn't seem to be quite as functional anymore. There are a few items that are still good and functional, but a great deal of it nowadays is marketed towards yuppies and college students who never set foot into the woods, but want to look like they do. There are other brands (even some store brands) that function as well or better at a more attractive price tag. Yeah, that would be about 12-14 years ago, hence why I said I didn't know if they were still good. That's a shame that they lost their functionality, cuz it used to be awesome stuff!
  21. I'm not going to destroy a paper coin, but I won't move it either. I want the real thing! If you decide to go this route, please put "replica or copy" in the title so we know that's what we're going after (or ignoring as the case may be).
  22. I love those, would be so excited to find one in a cache!
  23. When doing SAR I had my Northface Parka that I loved, though I don't know if they're still as good now as they were back then. Course when you snag it on a barbed wire fence it doesn't work as well.... but, guess that's not the fault of the jacket.
