  1. Map Monkey put it very nicely. I feel for you. If I had just wanted my coins/bugs dipped I'd do it myself! The whole point is so others can see and share in the fun! Generally it's just someone who doesn't know any better and a nice note will help not only yours but many bugs in the future!
  2. Fox, no need to get defensive, that was to yime and moop and the rest of us caught in a time warp, not you. I rarely come into the boards anymore, it's just not worth it to me. I am an old timer and I liked it the way it was, when you emailed or called someone up in here and asked for their help. Then when all was said and done you sent them a little something special and they were tickled pink (or yellow or lime). Nobody would ever dream of selling those special coins off, heck, they didn't even have a name attached to them.
  3. Yime, you need to get with the times.... It's not about giving an artist a special token of thanks for his/her work (you have a few of those from us), it's about the cold hard cash. Crud, are u gonna want us to re-mint 30 AE's for you now? I think it's time that us old schoolers accept that it's not the community it once was, that coins are not what they once were and let go.
  4. But it's not 10% of 10.00, it's 10% of 3.00 or so. 10.00 is market value, not mint price. The metal price increases over the past year are not matching the increase in coin prices.
  5. Hmm, I found a 50 hides coin, can u just give them two!? Seriously, I don't know if they make them or not, but coinandpins.com has the 10, 25 and 50 on their site. You might want to contact them.
  6. I was trying to stay out of this thread, mainly because I didn't want to hear about how I was in here defending Coins and Pins, but then I realized that I would be saying this regardless who made the coin. The simple truth is that a contract was agreed upon which did not guarantee an icon. It's wrong in my opinion to come in and bash any vendor for living up to a contract that the customer agreed to. I'm glad to hear that the icon status was achieved, but this whole topic never should have been here in the first place. It's also very interesting to read in a variety of threads about how so many say "it's not about the icons, I buy/trade coins because of the coin and design" and then see everyone in here crying because they're not going to get their icon. So, what is it? Is it about the coin or do you need to be honest with yourselves and admit it's about the icon? It looks to me like it was all very upfront, when you went to pre-order it says right on the page that there will be an icon only if enough are ordered. Perhaps one should think about it before hitting the order button, instead of ordering and then complaining about something that was right there in not so fine print.
  7. I think my post wasn't really clear. I never meant to label anyone as a minor. Simply putting a link at the bottom saying "contact" and have it routed to the parents info, doesn't need to be a big red flag. Though, it doesn't take long to figure out who are the kids in here, and criminals are even better at it than the average person.
  8. Huh? Say what? What's caching precious?
  9. I think all parents should follow your lead and put a tag line at the bottom of their young players accounts and forum posts letting people know where the adult can be contacted.
  10. Heard about it where? On this forum? In a chat room? Nobody is dragging anyone over any coals or being mean spirited in here. I would also add that 15 is hardly a young boy in this day and age. I once again commend the parents for taking action, and hope that now that this is the second time they've had to come in they will do even more, but hey, it's a step in the right direction. As a parent you want to believe that you've "handled" things the first time around, but sometimes it's just not the case, and so here we are. Most parents, if not all have been in that position before.
  11. I just want to say that it's really nice to see parents owning up to stuff like this. It happens, all the time in fact, and that I can deal with. I just can't stand when parents pretend that their kid can do no wrong. So, kudos to you for not only dealing with it, but for coming out and saying it.
  12. Just jump in and start asking for trades and trading! Most people are very nice and will just be straight with u if they want something more than a one for one. Here is where your part comes in. Only you know and can decide if a coin is worth more than one coin. If there is one you really want and it's worth it to you, then do it. Otherwise, trade one for one and don't worry if you get turned down, it'll happen, it's not personal.
  13. Question 1: Yes, if there were conditions with the coin, then I think the right thing to do is trade the coin rather than selling it, and pass on the conditions to the next person. (Yes, I think that if a coin has been dubbed a "do not sell", then it shouldn't matter how many times it's traded, that condition goes along with it.) Question 2: Yes, I think that if trading it back to the owner is not an option then trading with someone else is fine, once again, as long as the do not sell is forwarded.
  14. Where do non-trackables fit in? Honest question, not fighting.
  15. In response to WWC's post, I don't think there is a single person on here who has ever felt that you shouldn't do whatever you need if there are circumstances like illness, family emergencies, etc... That's always brought up but nobody is ever arguing that you should stay true to your word in those situations, family first. There are however lots of other reasons that people sell their coins that do not fall under this blanket. This is where the issue comes up. I don't think this thread was started to change minds, it was started to get a general "what does ownership mean" definition. Instead, it's turned into yet another slinging match. So, the question is, where do you stand (anyone reading this thread) on the ownership definition?
  16. I'd just like to ask a question to clarify what you said. If you "accept" implies that you are receiving a coin, but it leaves ownership rather vague. Are you saying that receiving a coin implies ownership or rather that you accept stewardship for it and the rules that stewardship entails similar to the Medal of Honor? Yeah, I guess so, I've never really cared about breaking down the wording being that I have never thought about selling any of my mystery or moun10bike and the like coins. It's just not something I would ever do because I know how the people who made them feel about it and would never take advantage of their kindness that they showed me by giving me one of their coins. It just seems wrong to profit off of someone's generosity.
  17. They don't all fall under this because lots if not most of personal coins are now sold from the beginning. If you sell your coin from the get go then I see no reason why others can't turn around and sell it again. That's where the difference for personals is for me. Personals had personal experience and meaning attached to them, because most of the time you were getting a coin straight from the owner's hand, literally, and tht face to face contact and meeting is what made them special, it was more collecting for memories sake than collecting for coins sake. Not sure if I articualted that very well, sorry.
  18. I think what Yime is saying, was back in the beginning we didn't need to spell it out and have a contract before we exchanged coins because there were some thing you just didn't do, in fact you would never think of doing. It was a much more personal experience back then, and meant a lot more. When it grew to commercial proportions the lines got fuzzy and confusing. Not everyone is the buy all collector or for that fact the buy at all collector. For those people lost in that time warp a coin is still something personal, and with that brings the sentiment that it's not to be sold. If you buy a coin you own it (of course, unless u buy it and it was already stolen). If you accept a coin with the condition that you will never sell it, it's still yours, you just can't sell it. Much like A&T I believe explained the medal of honor and it not being able to be sold. It's still yours.
  19. If you're just after the icon, then I suppose there is no problem. I'm beinning to think GS would be wise to start selling just icons, why bother with the coin, it'd be much cheaper. To each their own I suppose. I don't think they're the same as bugs or anything else, so I choose to just ignore them if I see one in a cache. It is very true that most cachers never come into these forums, so maybe POLITE notes sent to the owners of said fake coins requesting NICELY that the word "COPY" be added into the title would be a good idea. Maybe even a link to one of the many threads in here about it so they know it's not just the one person that wishes for this. I'm sure in most cases if people had any clue how much of a stir it causes they would be willing to make at least that change.
  20. TB1Z39R is the Reference ID Hula Bum's CCC Coin in the Wild Edit-Thanks PGH, should have paid attention to the post above to see you already did it!
  21. OOH, I should have made that a secondary goal!
  22. In the spirit of geocoins and what they mean to me I have decided to set mine free. It has been drilled, tagged, cabled and crimped and soon to be on its way hopefully to Salem (just seemed fitting). Can't wait to read the logs! Thank you very much CCC for helping me to put another coin out to travel!
  23. I am somewhat new but I purchase two coins and release one and keep one. If the one I release disapears then so be it. But having a coin that has a record of travel all over the world but never left my hands is like saying I shot a 68 at golf when it was a 90. Just my opinion! Actually I think it's more like saying you shot a 68, when you really just did it on the playstation.
  24. I'd try contacting coins and pins. They pull the item off whenever it's out of stock, the achievement coins are an ongoing item. It may just be a few days.
