  1. They're not a thing of the past at all. In fact more coins are being dropped than ever before. Of course, more caches are being placed as well. Drilling and tagging your coin helps keep it moving quite a bit as the value becomes pretty much zero. Some do still disappear but not nearly as many this way. There are several threads on this including pix, just can't remember the titles at the moment. They're a lot of fun to watch as they travel around, don't give up on the idea.
  2. I've got horrible knees and trekking poles have made the biggest difference for me. Now my arms and shoulders are sore, but I can still walk at the end of the day.
  3. I love my sasquatch. Used to do the air mattress car camping thing, until we realized that every night the thing went at least 1/2 flat and you froze your buns off. I've got a bad back so I started with a 1.75" thermarest and quickly realized that wasn't enough. That one went to the hubby and now I've got the 4 " sasquatch and couldn't be happier. It's not light (5 lbs), but being that I'm not doing backpacking with it I don't care. Though I think even if I was I'd still take it!
  4. Ah, I thought I was seeing the same coin, both sides. Thanks!
  5. Am I blind? Where's the tracking number? These tags are cool though, look thicker than I thought they would be.
  6. Very cool, glad it spurred something for you.
  7. I pulled the lackey coin out of the cache then he took it from me, no fair! (Really cool to find one in a cache even when I have one on my desk.)
  8. Trade value goes down as minting counts go up. As sales go up, trades go down and interaction goes down with it. This was once what it was about, community, that is being replaced by commerce.
  9. LOL-why would u be in business if you weren't in it to make money? Isn't that kinda the point? How is that generalizing? Yeah, there may be businesses that aren't making money, that just means they're doing something wrong. The issue at hand though is it good for the coin collectors? Yes if you're just collecting, no if you're a trader at heart.
  10. That's a cheap shot, IMO...profit isn't always the motive for a company to do a remint. Ever stop to think they may want to serve the costomers' needs and wants? It's not a cheap shot at all. They are a buisness. If they weren't into it for the money and were into it to make sure everyone got some great coin designs and all that stuff, then they would be selling the coins for cost, or at the very least near cost. They are in buisness to make money. None of these companies are some public sevice group so why are we pretending they are. If making a profit on coins isn't a bad thing, then why is calling a buisness a buisness a bad thing? Reminting a coin makes the company money while keeping the quantity low enables them to not take a risk on minting too many coins. It allows them to maximize profit while doing so with the least amount of risk. That's not a cheap shot but rather some basic facts. Thank You PGH. I don't know why it's a shot at all?! Was never meant to be, it's business, that's all I was saying. As a business you would be foolish not to re-mint, it's where the profit margin starts to rise.
  11. With all this re-minting stuff going on I'm really starting to wonder if trading is quickly becoming a thing of the past. So, three questions 1.-Do you trade? 2.-Do you trade more than you buy? 3.-Will you trade trackable for non-trackable or are you trading for the icon?
  12. If everyone can get one, then there really is no need for trading is there? That was the point I was trying to make, that is why I c it as a downer. Edit to add-Of course the people in here minting the coins are going to want re-minting, it equates to more money.
  13. I'm still not getting why it's so bad that not everyone gets every coin? Maybe a thread needs to be started to see how many people still trade, as this is the group that re-minting affects the most. Is trading really becoming a thing of the past?
  14. LOL, my bad, 2 of the coins u have in there were sitting right in front of me and I was gonna release them and thought I needed bugs for them, flipped them over and hey, whatdya know, they're trackable (you can tell I don't activate huh!?) Looking fwd to seeing pix of them all tagged too!
  15. Unless you want to jump through hoops with GS and buy the 250 min. I would suggest either making them simply as trade swag or using TB tags attached to them for tracking. Handmade stuff is very very cool, hope you get them out there one way or another!
  16. If you don't know what site to go to, then they certainly could be VHTF, even if they are still for sale at the original marketplace. It's marketing, it gets someone to look at the listing, plain and simple. If you've done your homework, then you know, if you haven't, well then you may end up paying too much, but that's what commerce is all about. Shop around and don't believe everything you read and you'll be just fine. There are more important things to get in a bunch about then how someone has their coins listed.
  17. LOL, only two shelves that are in the picture, the rest are glass cases and they're completely closed up, so not much dust gets in them, thank goodness!
  18. Robin, are you adding TB tags to the non-trackable coins in there? We've got a couple like that too, actually need to order some more bugs for that purpose. Thanks for the picture!
  19. Kealia is now up to 6 or 8 of the glass cases (each holding from 40-60 coins) and then the redwood racks on the shelf that were made by a good caching friend (5 of those I think). They cover two walls in the office, always on display, never have to open a binder.
  20. If you're ideas are good, they will be in a couple of months too when you've been around awhile and people know you and that you're serious about caching. Take some time to enjoy it all before you start in with the headaches of coins! Yeah, there's money to be made, but there are also a lot of migraines to be had! Welcome to GC.
  21. Very nice everyone! I'm only adding ones to the count that are going out after I started this thread, just as a reference point. It's so cool to see how many are being released. The pictures are inspiring!
  22. Very Nice IB! So, that'd be 59 heading out! When R u dropping yours?
  23. It's airplane cable and crimps that you get at the hardware store. Much tougher to get off. I've found that I have to put an eyelet on the laminated tag to keep the cable from pulling through the edge.
