  1. Thanks again everybody!!! I just got a dell AXIM 30 64/64 wifi/bluetooth and a 512 MB SD card online for $265 including fedex shipping. I really appreciate your advice, this forum is awesome!
  2. Thanks for the welcome plane!!! I appreciate the advice from everyone too...I am completely undecided on what to do...I hesitate on spending 50-60$ on something when 150-200 would get me something so much more useful... I think I have decided on the dell axim line, in about the 200$ range... I will try and leave it in the car and not mess it up too badly. I will probably go with a AXim V with a CF wifi card or a axim 30 midrange with wifi built in. Thanks again to everyone in all the PDA threads with such good information!
  3. The dropdown menu is a good idea...here are my submissions: * Left the lid loose so water would soggy the logs * Acted like a doofus and let everyone in the park know there was something cool stashed in the bushes * Put a knife and some fireworks in the cache for the kids * Wow cool hiding spot! It was (in/under/hanging) (on/in) (the tree / the big rock/ the small rock / the lampost / the big bush/ the small bush/ the flower pot) where I never would have thought to look! * DNF this cache, muggles must have grabbed it.
  4. I want a PDA (pocket PC or PALM OS - I don't have a preferance) that can: 1) Work well for geocaching 2) Play MP3s 3) Accept SD cards 4) Connect via USB *** as a bonus if it had wireless (802.11b) that would be very cool but not at all necessary. So far from what I have gathered the Dell Axim models seem to be the best priced with all of these features but there are so many models...I haven't owned a pda before so any tips on which models that meet these criteria for the least amount of money would be greatly appreciated!
  5. Hello! I was just wondering what is the cheapest PDA that can do the following: 1) Play MP3's 2) USB connectable 3) Use SD cards This can be PalmOS or PocketPC. Thank you
  6. Welcome!!! Ive had my GPS only a couple fo weeks now and it has been really fun!
  7. To me it just seems like common sense...If you hide a cache that has accessability limitations (hours of operation, needing a 4 x 4 , seasonal closures etc...) then you should post those things in your cache description. Maybe I am out of line, but if I drove a couple of hours to a cache and the place was closed, and there was no mention of this on the description page I would lose a little respect for the hider.

Thanks for the AWESOME write up , BNOLAN. Really helpful!
  9. Wow. This seems a little harsh.... If the cache is in some place (park or not) that requires special parking or that closes at certain times, or is inaccessable at certain times...I would think that it should be part of the cache information page...maybe I'm just not H$Rdc0R3 enuf.
  10. Firefox user here as well - no problems at all.
  11. Anyone know which palm / pdas are the least expensive that can take SD cards and play mp3s?
  12. Sounds AWESOME! I have a point and click (Panasonic / Lumix 12x optical lens) now after not ever even having any kind of good camera. At some point I want to get a digital SLR, when the budget allows. Can't wait to see your pictures! (Is IST DS the model number? I was going to do a little research into SLR cameras)
  13. LMAO Funniest thing Ive read in a WHILE! Thanks!
  14. I wouldn't be offended if there was a sealed / non-transparent bag that said -"Rated -R" with something adult inside. (Like an r-rated DVD or CD with explicit lyrics for example). That way I could decide for myself what is appropriate or not. I personally do not like other people deciding for me what I *should* look at / listen to / etc.... IMHO I think people need to take more responsibility for THEIR OWN ACTIONS and quit worrying about what other people do, as long as it doesnt hurt them. Now, what if a "child" (minor?) found this R-Rated DVD? Well, I would think if they were old enough to be out geocaching unsupervised then you would trust them enough and have given them enough training to do the right thing. Just my opinion
  15. If you are picking by random number generator my number is: 420.314159265358979 <crosses fingers>

    Rar Format

Winrar is a very cool program that will also unzip .zips and some other formats as well.... Just because something is more popular (i.e., zip files , mcdonalds hamburgers, budweiser beer etc....) doesn't mean its better. Of course I don't expect any changes, but I have heard people in several threads mention bandwidth, so I thought I would point out this option.

    Rar Format

I did some preliminary testing, and my findings indicate that when compressing raw GPX files, RAR format takes up 20% less space than ZIP format. Not sure if it takes more processing power to create RARs than ZIPs or if it would even be an idea worth exploring but...I just thought I would throw that out there in case we needed to save some bandwidth.
  18. I got the case from GPS geek and I don't really like it. (It's the gillson case). The quality feels good but there are two things that I think could be improved. One is that the external antenna can't be used with this case (unless I am missing something). The zipper is at the bottom of the case and the antenna is at the top, so you'd have to plug the antenna in, and then cram it into the case. If the zipper were on the other end of the case, it wouldn't be as bad (but maybe the zipper material would interfere with the quad helix?) Alternatively, maybe some kind of port for the external antenna could have been sewn in, like a small hole with a velcro or zipper to cover it up? The Second thing is that the 12 V adaptor cant be used with the case on. Its not a big deal (neither of these things are really) but I would be willing to pay a few more bucks for a nice case that had these two modifications. Just my opinion.
  19. Edit : Deleted due to outdated information
  20. Cool! Thanks again for the help and info!
  21. AWESOME! Thanks Hemlock, it worked like a charm - I don't know what I was doing wrong... There are only 259 results, so does that mean there are (as of right now) 259 locationaless caches in total? Thanks again!
  22. Hi! I am new to geocaching and wanted to try out some locationless caches... I am trying to create a PQ which will give me 500 locationless caches, but everything I have tried has given me 0 results... I tried setting to "locationless caches' as the cache type..... and the PQ form requires a location so I tried my zip code, and I tried selecting countries. All came up with zero results. I'm sure I'm not doing something correctly, but I can't figure out what..I also tried by date and still nothing. Thanks in advance for the help! (edit: spelling as usual)
  23. Oh and since were nitpicking...you might want to check your math. (31,415.9............) is a closer number nut its not exact. LOL. (just messin' with ya')
