  1. i have been geocaching for about 3 years on and off when i started out in the morning i found a cache .later on in the day about 6 hours later i went back to the same cache i noticed the electronic compass was off about 20 feet than it was in the morning.it was dead on in the morning.the batteries were fully charged when i left in the morning.6 hours later they were still quite full, when i got home my manual says when on long walks or on for long times to recalibrate the compass. i only do this when i change batteries. why would it lose accuracy does anybody else experience this ? thanks

  2. is there any way you can adjust the sensitivity of the touch screen? you have to press so hard on it to work especially with a cover on it. i'm afraid in time it might break the screen especially when it turns cold. any body ever break a touch screen? thanks in advance.

  3. dfx how do you see your screen without a backlight on mine is dark until i touch it thanks

    dark? or blank?

if it's blank, you have the "battery save" option enabled.

if it's just too dark to be readable, hold it so that the light directly shines into the display. or maybe your model has a different screen than mine and that doesn't work.

dfx you are right i had the battery save enabled thank you now i can see the screen it is dark but i can see it especially in sunlight batteries should be just fine.now if it will just cool down hot in georgia

  4. i have my backlight permanently off, and turn it on explicitly only when i actually need it (at dusk/night, indoors). the reason is mostly that the backlight won't make any visible difference outdoors during the day, and i find it annoying when i always have to push twice on the touchscreen because the first tap only turns on the invisible backlight.

more mAh = better, at least within the same battery type. compass on or off won't make any difference. supposedly the "battery save" mode does make a difference and may come in useful if you want to leave the oregon running a longer while without actually using it a lot (i.e. without even looking at it).

with my oldish 2100 mAh NiMH batteries i get around 6-8 hours. regular NiMH batteries lose a relatively big fraction of their charge within 24 hours of being charged, so to get the best battery life out of them, charge them up just before you use them. note that the increased voltage will likely throw your compass off for a while in this case.

dfx how do you see your screen without a backlight on mine is dark until i touch it thanks

  5. i have a 450t what do you set your backlight to 30 seconds 1 minute ? what about the screen brightness halfway or full brightness.i use nimh batteries what mha size is best 1800? what about when your going to the cache how can i save power on the compass auto compass on or off? what about nickel metal zinc batteries are they better than nimh? i guess what i am asking is how do i get maximum battery life in my 450t? thanks

  6. thanks to all i use alkaline batteries they went from 3 bars down to 1 bar in about 10 minutes of use i had the cells in there for while i probably held my thumb over the compass to long and brought up the recalabration page.i get a good signal even in a heavy canopy. the batteries these happened on were alkaline batteries i have sinced switched to nimh.i was surprised that the alkaline dropped so fast . i guess thats what caused the compass to send me in different directions.the 450t puts me within 2feet or less of the cache s i was surprised when it was off. again thanks to all.

  7. will a low battery cause the compass to turn in all directions? other geo-caches were found easily but the battery went low and it asked me to re- calibrate the compass which i only do when i change the batteries. it sent me 10feet in 1 direction and 10 feet in another direction. is this a result of a low battery? i do realize that you must be walking fast to get the compass to work accurately. anybody experience this with a 450 t or any other kind .thanks
