  1. We always trash them rather than trade for them... that said, we always leave a little party favor in caches too, so I dont know what that means... :D

How does the rest of the community feel about this sort of thing?

I feel that if the most "offensive" thing I found in a cache was a religious pamphlet I'd be pretty happy. And I have only found 56 caches.

I am a Christian, but if I found a pamphlet for muslimism/judaism/hinduism etc... I would hardly be "offended". I don't know what it is about religion, but the only people that seem to get mad about it are some (READ: SOME) agnostics/atheists. As much as I would love for it to happen, I don't care whether or not you are my religion. But for some reason you seem to care that I am. [/rant]

Back to what I was originally saying... I have found a plastic... err... phallus in a cache. I went ahead and took that out.

:yikes: Don't watch the news much eh?

Lets be realistic here, atheists and agnostics are one of the smallest minorities in America. I hardly doubt they spend a lot of time worried about what YOUR religion is. Saying SOME atheists feel a certain way is a about as much of a cop-out as saying, "I dont know what it is about cachers, but some (READ: SOME) sure like hiding packages that look like bombs."

It sorta' lets you both deride someone and hide behind non-committal language at once. You know?

I can assure, you people of all different faiths, creeds and cultures get offended by differing religious beliefs. There is a lot of power, money and hate out there to prove it.

True, true. I guess I didn't word what I was trying to say very well. It certainly sounds the way you are describing it!

This is what I mean to say: I don't know of any people of faith (whatever it may be) that would be "offended" by a differing faith's pamphlet. (Unless it outrightly says "YOU ARE GOING TO HELL", in which case it still isn't "trash" or "hate speech", but unhelpful words from misguided people.) At least in my experience, it has only been agnostics/atheists that ever get their panties in a bunch over religious proselytizing. (To use your example, there are very few, if any, people who are not cachers hiding things that look like bombs but aren't bombs in parks. Therefore, you can't blame all cachers, but you can only blame cachers. Does that make sense?) I still don't think this is coming out exactly as it seems in my head, but you should be able to get the right idea.

  3. Although it sounds like a lame cache (I don't know, maybe you could find somewhere cool to place it, but I doubt it in a parking garage), it is allowed as long as you have permission from the Parking Garage owner.

What powers of perception you must have to even have the slightest inkling as to how lame this cache will be from the information given.

Like I said, maybe he could make it cool. But "parking garage" doesn't exactly scream "cool, exciting place" to me.

    This is what I mean:

It is no different than the thousands of micros that are already in stairwells, different floors of parking structures or in lamp post skirts.

you should know that it is hardly a unique idea

After reading the post, your right about it not being unique.

  4. I've always got my pen, phone, iPod, and wallet with me whether I'm geocaching or not.

When I'm caching it doesn't change much. I carry swag of course, as well as my GPS or any trackables. If I remember I bring a small swiss army knife. I don't bring tweezers, but have somehow managed to sign quite a few "tweezer required" caches

Usually small swiss army knives have tweezers in them... and a toothpick :surprise: it's those two little different colored knobs on one end of the knife - just pull them out to use them.

Mine doesn't, and I know it because I use to have a knife that did. When I say this thing is small I mean it, it's probably a bit less than 3 inches long, less than half an inch wide, and designed to go on a keychain.

  6.

I just watched a couple of 'kids' (under thirty), park and block a one lane bridge to look along the outer edge of the guardrail to find the cache. Now, to me, the person who placed the cache there, the reviewer who allowed it to be placed there and the people who blocked the bridge are all at fault.

That seems wrong to me. I could easily go hijack someone's Jeep, and drive it on pedestrian designated trails all the way to the GZ of a mountain summit cache. That doesn't make it the cache placer or reviewer's fault. Geez... you don't even have to have common sense, just basic human survival intuition to know not to park on a one lane bridge.

  7. I am also a big part of WheresGeorge.com (tracking currency, for those who don't know). We use stamps to write the URL on dollars, and dollars go through logs of crap, so it has to be one that holds up. Basically everyone uses Stamp Connection there. Their stamps really hold up nicely, plus the customer service is second to none. If you e-mail them your "design" for the stamp if it's more than just text, they will help optimize it to work great on a stamp.

  8. Not 100% sure this is the right spot to post... but...

Is this happening to anyone else?

When I go to the home page, the usual drop down menus won't pop up. The search bar doesn't work. When I try to go the the map, it also doesn't work. Same with the old map. The decrypt button on cache pages doesn't work either. Those are just the things I've noticed. What could possibly be wrong? It's worked for me up until today.

  9. If I tried to geocache without motorized transport, I'd only have about 10 caches within range. Obviously I could finish in about a day. My ATV (I barely ever use a car, no license), can take me up two separate canyons behind my house. I get to the nearest point via road, and then park and hike.

Unless you are in a major city in the U.S. public transport is either weak or nonexistent. And in an extremely mountainous region like Utah, biking is hardly an option for any but the most fit (especially if you live in the foothills like me). I walk when I can, but most the time caches are too few and far between.

  10. I almost always put something in a cache, and only take things out if I want them. I've taken some fish hooks (in a bag of course), a stuffed animal for my sister, and some other trinkets, but more often than not I TNL something.

Oh, nice Lazuli Bunting avatar, UtahnBirder! I used to bird, but it began taking 2+ years for each new lifer, so I finally gave it up for an endless supply of geofinds. lol

Don't mind me, folks. :) Just reacting to a surprise sighting. Carry on.

Let me just extend this off-the-side convo a bit more :P

I don't bird very much at all anymore, but I still do look for them and identify when I have my binoculars close to me.

I got a new lifer today, a Short-Eared Owl. However, the way I got it really sucked.

I hit it with a Jeep going 65 mph, it broke the thing's neck right then and there and killed it, and broke my windshield. It was a really sh**ty way to get a new lifer...
