  1. I have never tried paperless caching, and I probably won't for a very long time. The cable is still in my GPS's box, but that would mean I have to walk all the way to the basement to get it. I just can't put forth that sort of effort.

If I am doing 1-5 caches I just print every page. Any more, and I open up a Word document, and write down the Name, coords, d/t, and size of every cache. Then, if I need to, I can pull out my phone on the trail to get more info.

  2. Hello,

I would like information on how to obtain official trackable numbers or codes that are regulated through Geocaching.com. After attending GeoWoodstock IX, I see trackable numbers on clothing and other 'normal' items like geocoins. Is it possible to purchase a series of trackable numbers that I can apply to signature items or create items that can be tracked on GC.com?

Of course, I would imagine the items would need to be reviewed and approved, which is no problem. At this time, I am just wondering about the availability of tracking numbers and who I can speak with concerning this topic.

    Thank you,

    Jim

I think it's time that you check your sarcasm in the forums, AS. It's starting to grate on users, both new and old. The last thing I (or anyone else here) wants to do it tell you what to do, but try and use sarcasm and remarks like this is places where it "belongs". There is no need to discuss this issue with snark. Try to be constructive when posting to a real, valid question. Not everyone takes the time to look everywhere on the forums, or wants to.

I answered the OP's question. Then he decided he didn't like my answer so he'd tell me I'm wrong. Groundspeak sells tracking numbers for geocoins, in groups of 50 or more. You cannot purchase one or two TB numbers to print on shirts and hats.

First of all, even if you HAD answered his question, you did it in an extremely snarky and rude way.

Second of all, you didn't answer his question. You CAN buy just trackable codes. Nowhere in his post did he say he only wanted one or two. Nowhere in your answer did you say you could only do it if you bought more than 50. All he asked is if it was possible, and all you answered was no. I don't consider that a correctly answered question.

Now please stop prompting people to post "should kids be allowed on the forums?" type topics. A blanket ban like that would affect me too.

  3. All it means is that the cache with the bolt over it was included in the pocket query.

Thanks for the quick response. I notice that there are also some caches along the route that i made that do not have the bolt over them. Were they not added to the query because I hit the 500 max limit?

In my experience, the route feature doesn't work very well, and skips some caches.

  4. Some of the questionable responses I have seen here remind me very much of the culture on that forum.

I don't know what your reading, but nothing here that I have seen has been as vulgar as 4chan.

    I don't know what YOU'RE reading....YOU'RE not YOUR....makes me nuts....

Drives me nuts too, but when you type this fast you are bound to make a few mistakes! I fixed it.

That was just the language arts teacher in me being frustrated by the lack of proper grammar and spelling on cache pages and in the forums...sorry if I attacked.... :) Some cache pages I have read are just awful...I wonder, would this horrible speller want to know that they look stupid/non-educated or do I just let it go? I have always just let it go....

Hard to say. Would you want someone to point out that this post makes you look like a know it all snob?

Would you? But honestly, sometimes the amount of snark on these forums just kills me. Honestly.

Yes, I would actually like to know if I make a grammar mistake. I'd have to say that making a post about it is probably not the best plan, but a PM would be appreciated.

  6. Designated Wilderness Area is correct. Thanks to all for your replies. I guess I really wasn't very clear.

Bridger is only a 30 min drive from here so I go in as often as I can. I was asking because there aren't very many caches listed along the southern part of the Forest and I was wondering if there were other places that listed caches.

Thanks for a great site folks.

What part of Idaho do you live in exactly? Soda Springs?

I live in Logan, so I was wondering.

  7. I suspect the age requirement is all about the law. If a child develops an inappropriate relationship with an adult through these forums or is exposed to inappropriate content here Groundspeak can say that the child violated the published TOU and it was the parent's responsibility to see that the kid adhered to them.

    You mean, like Facebook?

Facebook will disable an account if it's found to be held by a minor, per their TOU. The same should apply here. If a poster admits openly to being under the minimum age in the TOU then the account should not be allowed to post- per the TOU.

Until such time as an account is known to be under the minimum age then all the other rules in the TOU should apply- to all posters in all threads.

Except the minimum age of Facebook is 13, not 18.

  8. It might be cheaper to just buy the GPS, roaming charges are going to kill!

If you are a scuba diver, don't waste your time geocaching. I love geocaching as much as the next guy, but the diving in Cozumel is FANTASTIC. I've been there, and I have the Dominican Republic and Bonaire to compare it to.

If you don't scuba dive, then you will definitely want to rent a car for an excursion. Cozumel is a nice town and all, but it's not all that unique, and it's touristy. I think you would get more out of the island by driving down the West side, which looks to have about 5 caches.

  9. There is no such things as too dangerous/gross on geocaching. They'll publish anything legal. There is a cache at an abandoned nuclear facility, as well as a cache on an island made entirely of bird poop. It's only a matter of whether or not you are allowed and willing to place it.

  10. Thanks to all that responded to my inquiry... for the others well have a nice day.

Some of us are still unclear of what your actual inquiry was. Was it simply your reviewer that declined your cache, and you want to escalate it from there, or was it actually Groundspeak's reviewer appeal process that rejected your idea?

    It was Groundspeak's appeal process.
