    The thing is...i'v learned that its best just to live with it!!!!

    In my experience you run a risk of getting a replacement with 1 or 2 other annoying probs with it!!!

     

    My unit also has a deep scratch of about 2cm at the top back casing in between the screw thread for the holster and the external antenna socket!!!

     

    I also even have a few very very very fine scatches on the screen that can only been seen in direct bright sun light and directly under a bright light bulb when tilting the screen in certain directions. I'm sure if i spend even more time looking for other little cosmetic faults i will find them!!!!!

    Hi, just thought i'd let you know i also have the screen on my map60cs shifted slightly up higher to the top 'right'!!!!! I noticed it not long after purchasing the unit, i'v also noticed 1 or 2 tiny specs of dust when tilting the unit in bright sun light.

    Try not to let it get you down!!!

    Believe me i know!!!!!!

     

    I think its more common than you think when it comes to lcd/tft screens!!!

    I'v seen the same prob occur with nintendo gameboys also!

    And 1 or 2 other gadgets i cant recall at the moment.

     

    The 1st gps i purchased was the old garmin monochrome pilot 3 gps way back in 1998??(built like a little brick)

    That had a wonky screen also (much worse though). I returned it to the shop for a refund. Screen was driving me round the bend!!!!!!

     

    I think its down to factory assembly.

    Ni-mh Batterys

    Hiya All, does anyone know the shelf life of NEW and UNUSED ni-mh batteries.

    I have a pack of 'camplus 2300 mah' aa size, it doesnt look like i'll be using them in the next couple of years!!!!

     

    Also if used ni-mh batteries are not going to be used in the next few months is it best to store them fully charged (even though they discharge a little day after day) or discharge them completely prior to storing them away?

    What Is Your 60c/60cs/60 Accuracy?

    Hi, i live in the uk i get between 15-70 in the field. But i did a litttle experiment at my home back garden. Ground level is about 100ft above sea level, i have a good clear view to the east and southern horizon. If i point the gprs to the east or south horizon depending on which waas/egnos birds are positioned i can get a few 'd' s (1-5) that usually gets me down to about 6-10, i have to keep still though heh heh heh. A few weeks ago i was on location to a cache that was about 400ft above sea level and got a few 'd' s while moving!!! strange thing is although the gprs tried to get a lock on a waas/egnos bird (bar is hollow and flashes) i still get the corrections!!??

    GPSr is map 60CS ver 3.70

    Just my two pence worth.

    MMmmm that was my next question.... i was thinking of buying it from ebay.

    Couple of guys in america are selling sealed copies for around £160 still too expensive imo! Dont you think the CD should come with the gpsr?

    We pay enough dosh for the dam handsets!

    So am i right in saying the barometer is not acurate enough for measuring elevation because its a slave to how dense the air is at the location?

    E.G if at a location you know the height of, the barometer will give you a diff elevation reading depending on what the weather is doing?

    Sunny hot day = higher pressure = higher height reading

    cold rainy day = low pressure = lower height reading

    Been playing around with the 'plot barometer' function. I'v discovered that the gpsr will still plot pressure even when the unit is powered off!!!??? Confirmed when i check the plot report for time period the unit was off for, when i turn unit back on!

    Does anyone know how the unit does this??!!

    BTW whats the difference between 'barometer pressure' and 'ambient pressure'

    Hi geocacher, does 'waas' control the accuracy circle???

     

    btw i tested my gpsr on top of a hill, hight was about 80-100 ft i was able to get a signal from 10 sats with 15ft accuracy? the other 2 were 'waas' sats not picked up but i did get the occaisional flicker of an empty bar from 1 of the 'waas' sats.

    i thought accuracy of 15ft was only poss with the gpsr sats signal picked up by gpsr?

    Does this then mean if i had a signal from an extra wass sat (including the 10 picked up) the accuracy would of been even better than 15ft? Manual only mentions accuracy 0f 15ft at best.

    Hi All, i'm new around here. Great thread!!

    Had my 60cs for a week now.

    I'v noticed something about the accuracy circle. It doesnt seem to be drawn to scale? its easier to see what i mean if you zoom in ft on map.

    Once you start zooming in map to ft, the accuracy circle always seems to be outside that scale.

    e.g i had zoomed in to about 500ft, the gps reported about 20-30ft accuracy but the accuracy circle was outside the set zoom. I had to zoom out further to see circle? The accuracy circle doesnt really seem to serve a proper purpose?
