  1. Half pint glass of New Castle, then Guinness poured to the top = a Black Castle. Two of my three favorite beers in one glass. mmmm....
  2. We took my fiance's cousin caching while he was visiting us a couple of summers ago. He traded for a noise maker that made a croaking frog sound, then decided to leave it in another cache the next day. The day after that, the cachers who'd originally left the croaker found the cache he'd left it in, much to their surprise.
  3. The last NEFGA CITO was held at a park that's on the site of an old military housing complex, that's long since been demolished. We found pieces of old dishes, chunks of walls, sections of fabric from old clothes; it was something along the lines of a 60 year old time capsule that had long ago been opened and strewn across the woods. Of course, in sections of trail that have always been woods, we found a recent, though soggy, copy of Playboy's college girls edition. And some condom wrappers not too far off.
  4. Yep, try print shops in your area. That's what I did for for the stamps I use in making our signature geonickels. I e-mailed them the images that I wanted to use, and told them what I'd be doing with the stamps so they'd have some idea of size limitations and such. The two stamps, with shipping, totalled somewhere around $15.
  5. Sometimes just finding the clues to a LB can be a challenge. Many, but not all, are listed on the LbNA site; some boxers have their own webpages, and only post their clues on their sites, with no cross reference to them on LbNA. So far, it doesn't seem to be a problem in my area. Letterboxing hasn't caught on like it has in other parts of the country, particularly the northeast, and as far as I know all the boxes and caches are hidden far enough apart to avoid confusion.
  6. I'll throw mine in too. I have a line-only version of it stored somewhere from when I had the stamps for my wooden nickels made.
  7. Geez!... Glad to hear you're alright, especially after seeing the picture.
  8. Congrats Lep. Its pretty cool to know that someone I don't even know can have almost the exact same thoughts and feelings on something that I do. Others have started long after me, and now have 5 or 6 times the number of finds that I do, and I've passed up some who started before me. We all have fun playing this game how we want to, and enjoy it all the more because of that.
  9. For just about any trek through the woods, you can count on me wearing my Merrell's. I bought them a couple of years ago, so I have no idea what model they are, but despite all the miles I've put on them, they're still more comfortable than any other shoe I've worn, and they still have lots of tread left. The things even survived a hike that turned into a knee-deep wade when the trail I was on was flooded at some points; a day out in the sun with the inserts pulled out, and they were good to go. I've since replaced my every day shoes with another pair of Merrell's, and bought my fiance a pair of Merrell hiking shoes for Christmas since she was so jealous of mine (she enjoys long hikes much more now. )
  10. From what I've read, the Coast Guard/DoD is doing tests with GPS jamming capabilities several miles off the coast of Florida between Melbourne and Jacksonville, as well as areas off Cape Hatteras, NC. Naval Station Mayport is along the coast at Jacksonville, though I'm not familiar with any other military bases in those areas (not counting Coast Guard stations, of course.) The jamming is supposed to be well offshore, not right on the beach or over land (which is a good thing, since NEFGA is having an event aways inland this Saturday.) I don't think it has anything to do with the G8 summit. Local news crews here in Jax have been devoting half their air time over the last two weeks to covering this event (the rest is spent on Reagan's death and funeral), and the summit was scheduled to end today. As interesting as it may be to have so many world leaders so close to my home, I'll be happy when the reporters come home and discuss a few other topics on the news.
  11. Uggh... I've eaten some gross/weird stuff before, but I'm not about to put a tick anywhere near my mouth...
  12. Not at all. As someone before me said, gas is not cheap right now, so anything that can help cut down on the time I spend trying to find the general area is a great plus. Of course, autorouting does goof sometimes, and gives me some directions that are no help at all.
  13. No, you're not the only one. I call it my 'tick paranoia', and have to check everytime I feel the slightest hint of something crawling on me. Most of the time its my imagination, but every once in a while, it actually is a tick.
  14. Oh yeah, I remember all this. I missed the meeting in my area for a final exam; there was a website for a while, but that fizzled out. Oh well. Like Doc said, a good idea will endure.
  15. Yeah - congratulations Jamie! PacifiQuest was a success! Any pictures with the bike, standing in the waves at the beach? Good luck in China - we're all looking forward to the stories!

    Leterbox?

I've heard of some letterboxes and caches being hidden practically on top of each other - two boxes in the same hiding spot.
  17. I won't be there, but I can recommend a cache. Make sure you go for Famous Neighbors. I found it a while back, and its still one of my favorites of all the caches I've found.
  18. I'd agree with the few posts above me. I suppose it could be a puzzle/mystery cache, but a multicache is probably the better choice, as your coordinates would take a cacher to one spot, and they would then have to proceed to other spots from there. Its definitely not a letterbox, unless you include a stamp for letterboxers to stamp their logbooks with.

    Test

Posting one more time should do it. I think ten is the magical number of posts for dropping the Tadpole title.
  20. C'mon everyone, join me in a song! Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday dear geocaching, Happy birthday to you!!!....
  21. Food is usually a good way to get people to come. Provide the main course, and let others bring the rest (side items, drinks, etc.) Some sort of game/cache hunt is another good thing - you can set up some caches in the area of the event for people to find while they're there. In my area, often times the event coordinator will bring a cache container and log book, and everyone else brings something to put in the cache. Then the coordinator (or someone else who volunteers) can hide the cache somewhere near the area and post it on gc.com.
  22. Check your e-mail - my new address is in there.
  23. Most definitely. E-mail the owner through the LB site (I don't think you have to be a registered user to do it), and let them know what's going on, and what you'd like to do.
  24. Good choice! I picked one up on sale when I ventured into the masses of Day After Thanksgiving shopping last year, and have thoroughly enjoyed it. If you're interested, gpsgeek.com has an external antenna for the GPS V, which has the receiver on a length of wire (there are two or three lengths if I remember correctly.) You can pop out the standard antenna and put this one on; the antenna itself has a magnet on the back. Its worked well for me - run the wire through the car window, put the receiver on the roof, and then position the V out of sight of other drivers, but where you can easily see it (worked great going through some rough parts of town.) There's also a cacher near me who would put a button on his hat, then put the receiver on the button. The magnet held it in place, and he supposedly had a much easier time keeping satellites locked than other cachers when they went hunting in groups.
